Fabulous! FAB-U-LOUS! What a magnificent performance - hard to imagine that ANYTHING could top this! I especially liked Signor Corbelli - not only is he a superb singer, but he has the MOST mobile and expressive face! Fifty years ago, having discovered the joys of opera, I decided I wanted to come back in my next life as a great bass-baritone - and had I seen a performance like this, HE would have been my model! In his book "The Great Singers," Henry Pleasants distinguished between two types of operatic performers: Acting singers, that is, performers who were fine singers first and actors second, with the acting taking second place to the singing; and singing actors, fine singers whose acting was convincing and natural. Signor Corbelli is plainly a singing actor! Watching his face through this clip was a joy! And Florez? WOW! The voice IS fabulous, but his acting is also pretty good. What a treat it would have been to see this production on stage! Thank you for posting this.

Grandissimi. Tra i maggiori interpreti dei rispettivi ruoli. Voce, colore interpretazione di livello superiore a chiunque altro. Va aggiunto tra l'altro che corbelli interpreta magnificamente anche don magnifico e persino alidoro
Temo che per Alidoro abbia una voce troppo leggera, ma non faccio fatica a immaginarmi che l'interpretazione (inteso da un punto di vista recitativo) sia sublime, come sempre.
Bravissimi ! la dizione è impeccabile e credo sia molto complesso , in quest'opera , rispettare la coloratura imposta dallo spartito ma loro ci riescono senza sforzo apparente . Anche scenicamente sono tutti e quattro perfetti . Grazie per aver postato questo bellissimo video !
The greatest performance I've ever heard of La Cenerentola was Levine, Bartoli, Vargas, Corbelli and Alaimo, Met, 1997. Corbelli, in particular, was brilliant.

@AM642 L'opera,in generale,è uno spettacolo per animi sensibili,adatto ai pochi che riescono davvero ad afferrare la grandezza di uno spettacolo "totale",che unisce musica,teatro e poesia.Conservatorismo e passatismo sono due termini bellissimi se per essi s'intende la volontà di preservare un patrimonio di inestimabile valore minacciato dall'ignoranza e dal pressapochismo(vedi i tagli al FUS del ministro Bondi).
Corbelli è fantastico! Io l'ho vista dal vivo alla Scala! Una bellissima versione... L'opera poi è un piccolo capolavoro, libretto e musica sono eccezionali!

Watching again because this is SUCH a perfect pairing! A prime example of a Rossinian tenor trying to get a word in edgewise with a Rossinian bass-baritone! A great pity the poster doesn't tell us anything about the production; I'd love to see this pair in the complete opera.

Sorry but fyi there is no such thing as a "real male tenor". The tenor voice as all voices are distinguished in categories depending on how dramatic or light they sound. On that basis they sing different repertory.
We don't know what year this was recorded, but Florez gets better every time I hear him. And let's not forget Alessando Corbelli who virtually owns the rold of Dondini.
I've bought a DVD with la Cenerentola and JDF thinking it is this one from La Scala, but it is a weird production from Liceu with mice all around. JDF is great and all the other singers. I really with they put this on a DVD.
,Alvarez might not be the best ,but he has the right tone for Rossini music,you would be extremely disappointed and disgusted in this performance with a Pavarotti,or a Domingo,maybe a Carrera could be listenable,likewise the Baritone and the Ladies are very good(to my ears)Everybody seems well tuned in this Opera,and they are enjoying themselves.This is Rossini at his best with style&tone.Don't over criticize or analyse,relax,listen and ENJOY what maestro Rossini dished out for us.Saluti Gino

I've bought a DVD with la Cenerentola and JDF thinking it is this one from La Scala, but it is a weird production from Liceu with mice all around. JDF is great and all the other singers. I really with they put this on a DVD.

,Alvarez might not be the best ,but he has the right tone for Rossini music,you would be extremely disappointed and disgusted in this performance with a Pavarotti,or a Domingo,maybe a Carrera could be listenable,likewise the Baritone and the Ladies are very good(to my ears)Everybody seems well tuned in this Opera,and they are enjoying themselves.This is Rossini at his best with style&tone.Don't over criticize or analyse,relax,listen and ENJOY what maestro Rossini dished out for us.Saluti Gino
