It's not a replacement for AS90. Just for the once donated to Ukraine. The real replacement is the RCH 155 mounted on the Boxer 8x8. It's even more advanced than the Archer.
The UK investment is the RCH 155 because it shares a common frame with the Boxer Secondly, Sweden is process of upgrading its Archer from 6x6 to 8x8 The 8X8 has more commonality than the 6x6 Sweden's smart play would be trying to market its 6x6 to the US Army and USMC Ideally simple replace the guns with complete new and other refurbishments and that would cut down delivery time
Archer excellent howitzer. When I think of an Archer I think of Agincourt and the English Archers. Wonders if the Russians can hear the NATO howitzers as they practice.
One could argue that it makes up for 5 times a traditional artillery. The target computer can pinpoint multiple targets on the move and when it stops and fires it’s on its merry way to the next target

The Archer, a Great Wheeled System, only 14 in service though with the RA. Would be ideal to have up to four full strength Batteries for 19th Regiment Royal Artillery. Plus replacing the Tracked AS90 Capability with an Updated PzH 2000, which would complement the future Wheeled RCH 155 being procured.
Exactly why are spending money on the Boxer artillery system? Archer works and if the Swedes rate it that should be good enough for anyone. This sort of muddled procurement thinking is why the UK spends the same on defence as France and gets way less in supportable, effective weapon systems. I refer you all to Perun.
@@biscuitcrusader Ukraine has shown the vulnerability of towed system. Certainly hope that those watching are taking in the differences with wheeled and tracked SP guns, especially with the new K9. There has always been the question of the cross country performance of such wheeled howitzers as compared to tracked ones. While the Archer certainly has the advantage of being able to move faster, especially over paved surfaces, but does it come with the drawback of not being able to handle rough terrain like a tracked vehicle? Is the difference in performance & capability negligible enough that it will not be a hinderance?

@Hobosurvival I have been watching, and artillery have been absolutely key, but they haven't been used against drones because it not what they are for. How vulnerable they are to drones might have been a worthwhile question but even then it doesn't work in isolation.
Have you seen how many artillery shells both sides are firing each month, despite armchair generals deeming them completely redundant thanks to drones? Drones aren't some kind of unstoppable super weapon, they just require different countermeasures and alter planning considerations.
