Hi, Great Video. Thanks a lot. Just wanted to know is there any way to program my own chord progressions for using with the Chord Mode? Or am I just stuck with the chord options in the KK S49/ 88 MK2?
Question did you do all of your songs with the 49key board and did you miss the extra octave of the 61 key? I’m trying to decide 61 or 49 keys. Great vid also helped me to decide to go with this controller well explained and easy to understand tutorial.
As you noted , in Scale Mode - the Root key is A Brighter blue -to differentiate it from the other notes in the scale . In a room with normal sunlight , the difference is very hard to see - quite a faint difference. I suppose there is NO way to have the Root note a completely different color , like red - in order to make it easier to see ?
Unfortunately not. Also, the colors of the lights change depending on the plugin. They are not always blue. If you connect the keyboard to external wall power while also being connected via USB, the lights do get brighter.
the question is, as a noob piano artist... Will i be more creative with this ? I'm actually a guitar player, i want to learn piano, but actually have absolutely no time for this. I was wondering if this keyboard brings us to a creative way ? or a totally boring loop.. I asking myself, if maybe it'll make me understand more this instrument by having some "helpers" while playing.
With the keyboard using chords, it the data for those notes are stored in the komplete kontrol plug in, not the native DAW midi file. So you you be able to see all the notes on the midi file, only the keys you physically press
How do you actually use the DAW to automatically switch scales as the song progresses? All the videos I find show how to manually enter scales, but that doesn't help me much in an arrangement where the scales need to switch. You obviously can't do that fast enough manually for every chord change.
Could one use this keyboard’s light guide in scale mode with midi out; to play an external hardware(a Behringer Model D, for example) or keyboard module? This way, one could have a light guide for your fingers to follow, as you play the external synth in the key of G# minor Is there any way to make this work?
I'm not sure to be honest. The main thing for the light guide to work is to use it with Komplete Kontrol via a computer. But in theory it sounds possible to also use the midi out at the same time. But I personally haven't tried it
I don't know, but the fact you have to use the komplete kontrol plugin to get these features would kind of imply it's a software feature rather than on-board the keyboard so possibly not directly. Having said that there's probably ways to make it work e.g in ableton set up a track with an external instrument to route to your hardware and set up a track with komplete kontrol plug loaded set to any instrument. Set the midi from of the external instrument track to the track with komplete kontrol on it and set the audio out of the komplete kontrol track to send only. As I say I don't know so there may be an easier more direct way but think the above would work assuming komplete kontrol acts as a midi plugin as well as an audio plugin. @doubtmetech, when you record a track with scale mode on, does it record the midi as what you play or what the same mode features turns it into?
MrClarkio totally... many questions. But, could we make it work, It would also be a great way to learn how to play in key on the keyboard. It’s the lights that guide you. That feature alone makes the keyboard exciting for a non-keyboardist. This has been such an issue for me. Wanting to know how to play in Key(in any key) That I went out and started taking piano lessons recently. Hahaha
jjaffee and that's probably the best, but not easiest way. As a "why does every black key seem out of key" keyboardist I can deff empathise. I think ultimately you have 3 choices: 1. Learn piano and scales, guide lights or piano teacher, 2. Use an isometric input instrument such as push, maschine or launchpad where the scale doesn't really matter. It will always be the same shapes, 3. Use a midi theory plugin such as scaler 2, which is awesome btw. The only trouble with 2 & 3 is that you'll end up playing purely diatonic chords which can sound a bit cliched.
The lights aren't that bright. They don't really bother. If you don't have the power supply plugged in, and have it with just USB, the lights are less bright
So if I'm using logic pro the scale and chords functions will not work. This midi controller is over price just to only work with native instruments software products. I got to say akai 249 is a better product if you're looking for a midi keyboard that work with many DAW.
Yes, you just have to add each one. Make sure you watch the video, the link is in the description, and it explains it step by step. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/0aQrlduCea4/v-deo.html
Bro. Question. The fact that you can only use those chord and scale functions with in Komplete Kontrol and not a DAW - doesn't that defeat the purpose? Komplete Kontrol isn't a DAW in its own right is it? You have to use Ableton or Logic.... but when you use these DAWS you cant use these short cuts!? Thats dumb. Unless NI are gearing towards producing their own DAW which is why the functions are locked? Id rather get the S88 then and play properly as a pianist than the S61 version.
Komplete Kontrol is actually a plugin that you can use in your DAW. Add that as your instrument/plugin into a track on your DAW and you'll have all the functionality. I use it all the time on my DAW. Also the s88 has the same functionality. So you can play like a pianist and you can use the awesome functions in your DAW
@@DoubtMeTech Hey man thanks for replying. Its just I have the Maschine mk3 already. I need a midi controller. I was about to buy the S88 MK2 but I saw the Arturia Keylab 88MK2 which has sliders, score sheet stand and laptop stand which is very practical... so as long as I can still use the Komplete Kontrol Plugins I might invest in the Arturia....what you think?
@@JemSkylark To use all the komplete kontrol features, you need the komplete keyboard. and honestly it's amazing. I don't think there's a better midi keyboard on the market
@@DoubtMeTech Right, so the light guide is limited to the Komplete Kontrol PLUGIN, but does that mean it’s limited to a DAW? So like I use Reaper. I know that NI release an MCU third party driver to make the keyboard and Reaper compatible, but I thought that only limited TRANSPORT functions, such as play, select track, etc. So the list of limitations isn’t inclusive of the light guide, right? I’d like a fully functional controller with my DAW, but I’d compromise a few transport controls (which I can just do with my mouse so it isn’t a huge deal) for the light guide. So my question is: Does the light guide work with Reaper? Since it is exclusive to the Komplete Kontrol plugin, is the Komplete Kontrol plugin compatible with DAWs like Reaper? I don’t want this keyboard if I can’t use that light guide 😆.
that's so lame why would they lock it they should have made it throughout everything because people use samples such as 808's this if anything slows down peoples workflow

The lights aren't that bright. They don't really bother. If you don't have the power supply plugged in, and have it with just USB, the lights are less bright
Can you disable the lights...don’t need them really
Im not sure actually. I haven't tried that. Sorry I don't have an answer for that
Doubt Me Tech apparently you can’t , just checked the forum...
If you don't have the power supply connected to the wall, and are ONLY connected to the computer via USB, the lights are not as bright.
Doubt Me Tech and neither will be the displays...oh well. Gaffer tape?
So if I'm using logic pro the scale and chords functions will not work. This midi controller is over price just to only work with native instruments software products. I got to say akai 249 is a better product if you're looking for a midi keyboard that work with many DAW.
Did you see my video on how to add 3rd party instruments to Komplete Kontrol? I have a link in the description
@@DoubtMeTech will it work for all plug in for logic pro
"Theory Board" wins.
I just looked into it. It looks really interesting. Hopefully I'll get one in soon and I can do a comparison
Doubt Me Tech I m waiting for it!
@@frattuncbas So am I
That software requirement is a deal breaker for me. Guess they don’t want my money.
No
Yes
so wack you can only do this with Komplete Kontrol
Yeah, but you can add 3rd party plugins to komplete Kontrol. I have a tutorial in the description
change ur mic u killed the vid
I already changed my mic. This video is over a year old
that's so lame why would they lock it they should have made it throughout everything because people use samples such as 808's this if anything slows down peoples workflow
Yeah I agree they should have it available without the plugin
Is there a way to turn the lights off?
