Is it true ? There IS électricity on thèse fences?
I am assuming that an indestructible fence (too expensive of course) would have reduced the probability the elephants would be shot by farmers.

the only reason they do this is bcuz ppl have erected these fences blocking the ancient paths to their water holes. the elephant doesnt know another route to the water, or theyd take it! their such a peaceful animal, they dont wanna cause conflict!

Hi there. - yes bee hives can help on an individual farm level but for larger landscapes the electric fences seem to work most effectively.

Hi Sheela. The fences are put there to protect the elephants. The charge in them is very small and acts only as a deterrent to stop them breaking into farmer fields and destroying crops. Fences are used to protect elephants from farmer retaliation. Elephants still follow old migration passages and the land over time has become agricultural land and in some cases space for villages. Our work aims to create a safer environment where growing populations of people and elephants can live alongside one another.
