  • How swallowing someone else's poop could save your life!
Dr. Mark Davis is a Portland-based naturopath who specializes in stomach and intestinal health. He is an expert in fecal transplantation, having successfully administered it for patients of many conditions. Davis cofounded Microbiomes, LLC, which was the first group in the U.S. to offer a fecal transplant capsule, which is taken orally. He hopes that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will eventually allow more patients to benefit from fecal transplantation. Live interpretation by Ben Cavaletto, post interpretation by Mish Ktejik.

This treatment saved my life! I did it myself after relying on doctors who knew nothing about this treatment. I had C-diff for almost two years. It's not "swallowing" the poop it's an enema and it's not a big deal. If you're sick enough, you'll do anything to save your life!

Watching this with my four-year-old, and when you said that the FDA labeled poop as a drug, he looked up and yelled "What?! That's fake!" Children are so perceptive! Even a four year old can instantly recognize that labeling our organic, internal matter as a drug is insane! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK!

This is awesome. I wish I'd known about this talk. In 2016 my wife had been diagnosed with bipolar I disorder for a number of years and had tried taking her life on a number of occasions. Her medication stopped her psychosis and suicidality but gave her no quality of life. I figured that her childhood trauma and overuse of antibiotics could have knocked her gut microbiome out so we decided to do FMT- I was the donor. We were the first people in the world to do it for mental health issues as far as we can tell. Anyhow, she's been off all medications and symptom-free for seven years now. Before FMT, being off medication for even two days meant she was off to a psych ward. Fortunately her psychiatrist published her case history.

I'm heading to the UK in a couple of days, to the Taymount Clinic, for my third round of FMT treatment. I was diagnosed with CFS and IBS-C after years of antibiotics and accutane, for acne, tonsillitis, and recurrent chest infections. So far it has almost cured my fatigue, and my IBS is greatly improved, but I will continue the treatment until I am fully cured, and I have total faith that it will do the job.

I live in the Channel Islands, however, there are many people who travel to the UK from the US to have this treatment, as the FDA has classed it as a 'drug', and only allow it's use for the treatment of C-Diff.

I noticed a difference almost immediately, and don't have much of a problem with fatigue anymore, the main thing I suffer with now is IBS. Not sure what you define as post exertion malaise, but I had a long spell where I would get home from work and immediately fall asleep.

The FDA is bought and paid for by Big Pharma. Everyone at the top of the FDA, every political appointee, is working for one pharmaceutical company or another. The actual scientists and other low and mid-level employees are usually good people but also not often brave enough to blow the whistle on corruption (which destroys their careers and has the government try to persecute them one way or another.) But there's been quite a few FDA whistleblowers..

Still doctors 'heal' with chemo and radiation which yields up to 300.000 dollars a year and has many side effects so the treatment of them produces even more profit. it's closer to 20% of the population so 20% of the screen seems fair and i'm assuming it was the presenters choice as most Ted talks just have subtitles

Did it really affect you that much? I was happy to see that hard of hearing individuals could enjoy this information in the easiest way for them.

You're right. In cities like Salem they're more interested in feeling good about themselves than actually doing good. Obviously every word was typed out before being said and UA-cam does subtitles.

Nice talk. But as an actual MD specialised in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology, it is my opinion you should be arrested.

Typical MD response who doesn't look outside the box. Most MD'S are in with Big Pharma or the Food industry etc. Constantly pushing pills or Tell you to get an operation, Which line the Pockets of Doctors,Surgeons etc. Obviously there are times when Tablets, Operations etc do help.

Suggestion: Keep your hands out of your pockets; learn to use your hands as you speak. Otherwise, great talk.
