i went for 500 exc six days and love it to bits!! yes you do have to hold on to your life cause power is amazing and I'm 6foot tall 120kg or 260 lbs so if i can move well on it so can anyone else, i have had the suspension suited tuned to my height n weight and never looked back and will always stay with a ktm hands down
This video, to me, is not as interesting as comparing the 250 EXC-F vs. the 350 EXC-F. The decision between a 350 and a 500 should be pretty clear depending on what type of terrain you like to ride. One is more for faster, dirt paths; and the other is more for single-trail, harder & slower enduro. However, when it comes to the 250 EXC-F vs. the 350 EXC-F, the question is much more complicated IMO. I would love to see this same video made for these two bikes.
I vote 500 for me. I'm 200 lbs and I'd like to be able to go across my whole state from time to time and the power would outweigh the weight issue for me.
I'm 6' 2" and roughly 200 pounds, and I plan to use the bike as a method of both transportation and sometimes off-roading. I'm guessing most people would recommend the 500 for me?
I wouldn't buy either as transport. They are not intended for road use. They are licensed so you can commute short distances between trails. Buy a 690 Enduro R if you are going to use it for transport. Or even a KLR if you rarely go bush
Simply if your 170pound or under the 350exc is a top bike likewise over 170-180pound (such as me 210pound) the 500exc is the bike of choice. For multiple reasons the main the shocks and torque. Enjoy the riding peeps
At 5'9 260lbs is the 350 to small? I plan to commute a little on the bike about 25 miles one way but then go play in the woods and sand. I live in the Pacific Northwest oregon
if you're an affluent rider, your weight would be better suited to the 500's power. Oregon isn't very flat, so I'd stick with the 500. That 25 mile trek would benefit it as well. I wouldn't say the 350 is small for you, but if I were in your locale and with your weight... I would rule out the 350 just base on *Oregon, 25 mile trek, & 260 lbs.* Then you have the best of both worlds and changing sprockets in either direction would be completely open for you.
hey guys I need help, and this video helps a bit but I'm still not sure. the last bike I was on was a 250 2 stroke and the bike was great I just found it to be a little to powerful in the trails, not that it was to powerful it's just the power comes on to fast to hard to hang onto in my opinion, I've had a 125cc 2 stroke and that bike was perfect just not enough topspeed for the dirt roads, and also a 230cc 4 stroke that thing was just gutless so I'm looking for something I can use on road and off so these KTM exc's are perfect, but I've never been on one. my question is which bike has similar power to a 250cc 2 stroke just delivered in a more linear controllable manner the 350 or the 500 ?? ( PS. I just listed my previous bikes to give anyone a bit of history of my experience on different bikes just for comparison purposes ) any help would be much appreciated oh and I'm male 170 lbs 5ft 10inchs tall moderate experience never raced just recreational trail rider thanks !!
Exactly what I've been hearing...the bigger riders like myself go for the 500. I used to ride a 530 but got rid of it, big mistake! But now I'm looking at the 500...
+Rob Farrow If the 530 was a big mistake because of too much power for you, don't go for the 500. They share the same exact 510.4 cc engine, meaning the new 500s will only be more powerful than the previous 530s due to engine modifications throughout the years. The only thing that's really different is the number displayed on the shrouds.
Nope, the only big mistake about the 530 was selling it! I loved the power and could take that thing anywhere! Just thought I'd do more touring, which its not suited for so I got rid of it! Someday I hope to get a 500!
I am contemplating whether to get one of these beasts, but $14,000aud really!? Fair enough, my current bike cost more than twice that, but it's not a simple dirtbike with lights and blinkers. A bit overpriced I feel.
Where I live there's only a handful of these bikes. People want more than that for a 2013 model with 150 hours on it- that's if you're willing to travel 2,000 km to go get it. Last I checked there was only One 500exc in my state for sale 2013 for $10,500 lol. I have had the 2015 model for a month now so it's all good, so-to-speak.
a dealer up here in canada told me NOT to ride one of these bikes at a constant highway speed...you would burn the bottom end out. Anyone else been told that??
I have a friend that does some longer rides and camps off the bike and he hasn't had any problems. I think if your going to do extended road trips it would be good to hear up a little. I run 14/50 tooth sprockets on my 2014 500 :-! and that seems to be about good for a comfortable 65 to 70 mph without ringing it out. most people run 13-50 but I feel it's a little easier on the engine if your doing much road miles to switch to a 14 tooth front.
ya... that makes sense. I wouldnt be doing any what id call extended road trips though really anyway. More of just shorter rides from where ever we ve made home at the time to the trails, exploring some etc. I wouldn't want to make any gearing choices that would compromise off road performance as thats still my priority use for the bike. Although what your buddy does sounds awesome. So it sounds to me like maybe unless your expecting it to perform and ride it like a street cruiser on the open road for hrs long stretches. It would be fine. I should be able to use it for what I personally intend. Thats great! thanks for your advice and input. take care man :-)
airfoln dianing Wow big man with big words. last i checked the HONDA 450X has won the most baja 1000 races... come and ride AZ and we'll see who's faster
+Roy S the newer bikes like 550 were tuned down so the rider could handle it better the ktm 500 mx was more dangress and it was a morphidite so it had a special piston that handles even more power the 550mxc. makes around 69hp while 500 mx makes over 75hp
Eeeww. 4-strokes! I saw KTM 500 and thought they might have come to their senses and made them again. Too bad. I need KTM's 500, 540 & 550 2-strokes to add to my stable..

still loving your ktm?
Im the same height and weight as you bro, but I ride an XR650R. The 500 interests me though, if the torque is good, because I know it will be lighter.

man the 500 is sick for an enduro for dirt and street the 500 is the way to go big easy power and the front wheel just lifts with ease.
2014 KTM 350 EXC Dyno Test
Being a big guy I lean more towards the 500 EXC. Great video guys and gals!
I vote 500 for me. I'm 200 lbs and I'd like to be able to go across my whole state from time to time and the power would outweigh the weight issue for me.
If you have the money why not the 690? Has more fuel and is around the 11-12k mark I think
weight issue?, 9 pounds is an issue for you?
more road=690, more trails=500 & 350, cost as nothing to do in this decision imo
Great video

Trails looked awesome! Where was that?
Lol 2:17 balance the wheels though.
amazing bikes and channel !
make longer videos
nah that was short and sweet
What's the power for each bike? How many hp and torque?
Good job nice vid keep up the reveiws
Both amazing bikes!
But how many miles can they go before you have to rebuild them?
I'm 5"7 and I'm tippy toed hardcore on these bikes there are really awesome machines but super tall for a shorter guy.
I'm 5' 6" ,I shaved my seat about an inch, it helps.
Yeahh bro I feel you I’m 5’7”
They all are..have the lowered by a suspension shop ..or yourself it's not that complicate
Nice video very well done
honda should have follow ktm in the dual sport , they only have the xr650l .. dont evne think about the crf250l
+nicbleu erhmm they have CRF250X and CRF450X..?!
And now they have a untuneable 450l

Try a 300 2 stroke...sounds exactly like what u want. Same power as the 250, more linear and able to chug a bit better

+Rob Farrow i had the 530 also , and miss its power , need one bad ,
me want
I am confused. Don't they make 450 exc? Or no? Why no comparison?
No only 350 and 500 for a street legal bike
They do, its just not available in the states
I am contemplating whether to get one of these beasts, but $14,000aud really!?
Fair enough, my current bike cost more than twice that, but it's not a simple dirtbike with lights and blinkers. A bit overpriced I feel.
wait till the next years model comes in and you will pick up the old model brand new form the dealers for 8500

would love to try one sometime and see if it's really THAT much better than my 450x ;)

Hahaha right??!!
👍
new compers have no idea how much faster a ktm 1988 500 2 stroke
I do ... I have two KTM big bore 2 strokes
92 - 540 DXC and a 94 - 550 MXC .. which will eat the new 500's and your 88 - 500 LOL
+Roy S the newer bikes like 550 were tuned down so the rider could handle it better the ktm 500 mx was more dangress and it was a morphidite so it had a special piston that handles even more power the 550mxc. makes around 69hp while 500 mx makes over 75hp
+Roy S right, I was hoping that these were brap bikes and not thumpers. the lack of the monicker *-F* tricked me.
500 seems a little too much for single track. Weight, torque etc...2much.
andrew gates they are same weight?
yeah you'll never own one because of the price of these pieces
If you buy one of the leftover bikes at the end of the riding season you can get like 3,000usd off the list price.
honda HONDA honda, BRRRRappppPpP *vanishes in a dust cloud
Look up the service manuals.... who has a 1 hr. Service then a 15 hr. Service?? That’s crazy.
Eeeww. 4-strokes!

beu ves
KTM's are just way too expensive :( 10grand brand new. That's 600cc+ Naked/Sportbike Money 0_o
Why buy the 500 when there's a KTM 690 & Husqvarna 701
Comparing apples and oranges. This is a ready to race out the shop with top end specs.
KTM690 would be for an entirely different rider preference
