Trenuleţul (English: ‘Train’) nods to the Ramone’s Blitzkrieg Bop with its infectious chorus of ‘Hey ho! Let’s go. Folklore and rock ‘n’ roll’, and showcases Zdob și Zdub’s love of traditional word-of-mouth storytelling.
It’s fair to assume that there won’t be many artists on stage in Turin in May who are likely to have had as much performing experience as the Moldavian musicians, and not just because Zdob și Zdub themselves have graced Eurovision with their presence twice before. The band have been around since 1994, and in those 28 years since, have honed their skills at playing to a crowd by going out on the road for a near constant stream of gigs, tours and festival appearances.

This song is essence of Balkan's. You go to Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova - this is the actual culture in villages. Every village dances to accordian/violin melodies in circle. In Serbia, some villages still have 2nd August festival (St. Ilyas - former God of thunder, where dancers rejoice for upcoming August rain to end the summer draught and water the crops). Whole village dances the "kolo" or "horo" as Romanian call it, for several hours. As they dance, children are putting necklaces made of daisies on dancers and every child carries a basket expecting a candy. This is pretty much Balkan's Halloween.

I love learning about folk dance cultures across nations. Im from the uk and was lucky enough to grow up in a town that hosts a yearly folk festival, and have experienced some old British folk traditions such as Wassail, hooden horses and morris dancing. Much of the uks folk traditions are sadly lost or whats left was filtered through what the Victorians thought was acceptable rather than the true meaning behind it. Its uplifting to know that history is still being celebrated and appearing on the worlds stage at eurovision!

The song is actually much deeper that it seems superficially. It's about the fact that Moldova and Romania are actually two countries and one people, leaning to the growing mutual sentiment (reflected in the polls) that they should unite in a single nation.

Well, with the EU accepting a Moldovan application for membership, once they join, the question of Romania-Moldova unification will kinda become a moot-point. The two countries can form whatever integrated ties they want without needing to have a single common government.

In Greece we had a terrible train accident 56 people killed. Another 50 missing . Tragedy. I remembered the ending of the film Underground by Emir Kustorica. With the piece of land and the cows and the big feast of the dead protagonists.

My mom and I are drinking coffee and listening to a repeat song. Great respect to Moldova, Ukraine, Albania, Estonia, Romania, Finland and Serbia for keeping their style. Especially Moldova, Ukraine and Albania. The purpose of Eurovision is to be songs that represent different languages, cultures and sounds and that is the charm of this famous festival in my opinion!

Never would I thought that we will see Zdob si Zdub again in eurovision. But I could´t be more happier. This song defines everything I love about this group. Just an extremly fun and enjoyable track with some cultural influence.

Most likely 10/10 from Poland. A lot of our trains still look very similar, also the tea is served the same way as in many Polish households.
Poland generally had a lot of influence in Moldova through history! So yes … even the lunch in planes are similar: tomato juice and salty fish 😂
