Great job, staging! Congratulations on the extraordinary and realistic demonstration of military movement and performance by Roman gladiators. It tells us a lot about the level of organization, discipline, courage, hard living, extreme brutality and hardship with which the individuals had to deal.
I could consume about 3k calories a day when I was in the US Army as a tanker over 20 years ago. I went from 120 to 150 lbs in about 3 years without going to the gym, just by performing physically-demanding tasks and physical training. Roman soldiers used to consume about/over 4k calories. These guys were beats!!!
This looks like a small section of the Field of Mars every season, where raggidy-ass recruits were transformed into rookie Roman legionaries or auxiliaries. Took maybe 5 years to properly train a new legion. Which is why Augustus was so distraught when Varrus lost 3 of them to the Germanic tribes in a single ambush.
he called the lance (french) "la asta" ? It was PILUM in latin language, not italian ... and in Italian, however, it is said lancia .... the asta for example is the one for the pole vault

there is a full week of activities promoted middle June inside the roman walls of the City Council at Lugo (spain) north-west of Spain, The Roman Wall of Lugo was declared World Heritage in 2000 for constituting the best living example of military fortifications from the late Roman Empire preserved in Europe also taking "Arde Lucus" to the streets of Madrid in January , was a success. Thousands of people made a corridor on both sides of the streets where some 150 members of the associations of the Romano Castrexa festivals paraded. The procession left the Plaza de Oriente at half past five in the afternoon bound for Puerta del Sol.The people of Madrid and visitors who found the parade began to make videos and take photos with the troops of the legions and castrexa tribes. Both at the beginning and at the end, the members of the associations that attended (there were 12 of the 19) received hundreds of requests to take photos or so that the children could touch the armor and weapons."
À 13:54 je verrais bien Astérix et Obélix foutre leur bordel là-dedans sous l'empire, non pas romain, mais de leur redoutable potion magique. Lol ! 😄 Et quand est-ce que l'Empire contre-attaque ? 🤔
That was a coward ambush and was fully revenged by the Romans, few months later they went back and killed everything was moving including that traitor of Arminius. See the battle of Idistaviso, where the Roman General Germanicus recover the EAGLE lost during the ambush of Teutoburg and restabilished order and secured the territory. The Gauls at least used to face the Romans without fear and not like the Germans tribes hiding behind the trees, honoured warriors would have faced the legions in an open battle and as usual would have been no chance of victory for any one.
Now imagine what it looked like with proffessionals trained for years with combat and marching experience.

Now they need to make an entire Cohort, then Legion, then parade through the streets of Rome (and get there using the ships they had in that time)

All these Romans would make a tempting target for two certain Gauls and a magic potion.
Septembre 2009... in 2000th anniversary of the battle of Teutoburg forest maybe...?
you are not humiliating the Roman Empire I hope...
