  • Commodore adverts and commercials were heavily used in the 1990s around the world to promote the Commodore Amiga 16 bit computer. During the 90's Commodore was heavily into their world wide marketing campaign for their 16 bit home computers and 32 bit consoles. this included commercials and adverts for the Commodore Amiga A500, A1000, A600, A1200 and the CD32. Some of these adverts where by Commodore directly however it wasn't unusual to see adverts by independent retailers also.

      @@FunLobbyDE The whole Commodore sucked at advertisement and development. They acted like they didn't know the potential of their flagship products. Imagine having a computer that was like 10 years ahead of it's time and being so fucking dumb, pissing of the Amiga team and missing the opportunity to develop another great Amiga. The technology was already there. It needed development. We could have an Amiga 6000 with PowerPC processor on board "Paula plus" sound chip with 8 or even 16 sound channels, and SuperAGA graphics chip. Another thing would be AmigaOS that can handle file formats from PC by default, higher resolutions and top notch productivity software. That would be something. The old software could work on new hardware using compatibility layer in the software.

    This was such an amazing computer in its day. Nothing could compete with it.
    Owned an A 500, A1200 and CDTV. Ran a BBS and used the CDTV to put the Fred Fish collection on-line so people could download it at 1200 Baud. Man those were the days. Computers were such a new thing and every advancement was so amazing.

    Now, I have been researching the Commodore Amiga as I we plan on getting one for our retro game room. Neither my fiancee nor I ever experienced any of the micros but I plan to start here. I first began gaming in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. She started much later as she is younger than me with the PlayStation and N64.
    What really fascinates me about the Amiga is a complete shift in what Commodore had done before. With the 64 and 128 it was all about power on a budget while they took on everyone else. With the Amiga it was power first and Atari led the market in price with the ST. I heard the Amiga 500 at launch was stupidly expensive. What I don't understand is how was Commodore near bankruptcy here? They literally led the generation before in sales.
    Addendum- I can't believe the atrocious Amiga 32 was the world's first 32-bit machine. That thing was absolutely terrible.

      @TheRetroByte  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for taking to time to watch and comment. You are definitely right in regards to the Amiga being a complete shift in direction. That's mainly to do with the fact that Hi-Toro initially developed the Amiga. Commodore didn't come along and buy the company till 1984 Commodore then struggled a little to get the marketing right with the whole Multi Media thing but that's another story.

      It was the Amiga 1000 that launched at a high price. The cutdown, more affordable a500 was launched in 1987 and that’s when things really started to pick up for Amiga sales.

      In the UK Commodore was profit making and almost survived. Commodore actually went bust in the USA, and in the UK the management tried to do a buyout to keep Commodore alive. But a German company came in, outbid them and never really looked after the brand

    Amiga's marketing was a mess from start to finish, trying to out apple apple. it was confusing and missed the real market, upgrade your 64. But commodore wanted to be serious.

      It was good up until medi Ali took it on he scarified quality for greed in my view and didnt have the right people yes it wasnt great but with the right improvements the A600 is a little powerhouse

      In their defense they didn't know what they were selling with the A1000, it was that advanced. By the time they had carved out two solid niches in video work and gaming they were virtually nonexistent in North America in terms of market penetration.

    The Commodore advertising was really ugly on television. They had no taste and no clue about professional users. The Amiga hardware was having so much potential but Commodore was going the cheap way. All they understand is selling a product and be done with it.

      I never saw any of these commercials in my country. But I am in Scandinavia + Finland (Commodore central command) and the advertisements were really by word of mouth back in the 80s and early 90s. The users were the salesmen. For all Commodore computers. Up until everything went belly up in 1994 when Commodore didn't know what the hell they were doing. I am still happy to see that 3rd parties are supporting the A1200 and to an extent the A4000 with hardware to this day though.
