Hey guys, I love your entertaining and unbiased reviews! A rant below, not directed at you ;-) I have tried a lot of cans in this pricerange, and I would dub the Sonys "The king of NC". But not the "King of Audio" if you compare to other wireless phones with NC (that price goes to Dali io6), nor the best Mic-quality (I prefer the Plantronics Voyager 8200). But what bugs me the most is when some are calling the Sonys "The best headphones in the world", when they don't sound anything like wired headphones for a third of the price. Hey I got a name call, just sorting through a short list of pr consultants at the moment, it’s all so sudden 🤩. Slightly worried about the pause after the “do you believe him”, probably just an editing issue 😳. As I said I do wonder if it’s a timbre and enunciation effect, I’ve noticed on a lot of headsets that voices of a slightly lower frequency do seem to be handled better by the software. What I could do is send you a recording of my voice from say a recorded zoom session, i could drop it through a tweet on one of my personal twitter accounts, that way you could tell me if my dear colleagues are just saying it sounds ok to shut me up 😃, what do you say?. If it really is crap I only have a week left to return them but no idea what to replace them with as I am done with Bose, I could wait to see what the new Apple studios are like I guess, as I am immersed in Apple as you know so the surface aren’t an option plus I don’t like their audio. So gentlemen you up for it?
Haha. That’s ok Adrian. We do believe you, we wouldn’t make you famous otherwise! There are just so many variables on things like this it’s good to get a diversity of opinion.
Hey adrian! I am using iPad Pro as my main device and was worried since it supports only AAC and SBC codecs. Will it be usable on video calls and will the noise cancelling be as good while working on an iPad pro with the XM4?
Noise cancelling doesn’t vary with the hardware is connected to. The AAC codec usually sounds plenty good for most. On phone calls, well let Adrian answer. ;)
@@DHRME @Sanmit Moore, DHRME are one of the main channels I have subscribed to since I started getting into my audio in any major way and the source of much of what I know, so what that guy just said 😉
my XM4 is stuttering when listening to my smartphone (Samsung A50) - but only in the 'connect to 2 devices simultaneous mode'. Very annoying. Sony claims that my pc (Lenova L13) is causing this phenomena (due to missing A2DP). I am consider to replace my headphone by Bowers & Wilkins' PX7. Looking forward if you would review that model
Do you think that getting the XM4 and then using the EQ to tune it to sound better is a better overall choice than choosing something like say, the Sennheiser PXC 550 iis or the Momentum 3s? I'm worried about the sound stage and the instrument separation since I play the guitar and would more enjoy if these attributes were better, but I don't know how much better the competition really is.
I think these and the Momentums are very close. The PXCs are a slightly different beast - much flatter. The Sony's take EQs tremendously well, but some prefer the Momentums just for the sound. As an overall package however, the Sony's are slightly better.
Bose is the absolute BEST at Noise cancelling, voice calls, ambient sound pass through. The XM4 are for those who want that BUMP in their music. Bose 700 has their signature sound (light on bass), and you can’t change it. Microsoft surface 2 is subpar on both accounts by my tastes... but they are also cheaper if I recall correctly. Also the dials are nice, but to be honest, not a game changer I haven’t tried any other premium headphone brands, I spent a month with all the brands above.
I had an terrible time sadly with my Bose, 4 replacements due to battery memory loss, terrible issues with dual connect that affected my work, signature sound not inspiring, plus I object to being told how my ears work and what the correct sound is, I don’t remember them coming around and giving me a hearing test?, awful connection issues with the app. They were not reliable or enjoyable to use for work. When they occasionally did work for calls in single connect mode good for calls I agree. Not as good as having my iPhone a couple of feet from my face and using it’s mike though which is easy to configure in Zoom or using the Mike on my Logitech pro web cam.
I had to adjust settings in developer mode on my Android smartphone, because LDAC codec wasnt used automatically, but everytime I connect my headphones have to change LDAC audio playback settings to 660kbps..any option how to fix that to not do it over and over again?
@@anandkumarjaggi I gave up I changed priority settings to connection and its automatically to AAC codec and its ok for me no disturbance or changing settings every day. its annoying
I am very hesitating between the xm4's and the sennheiser pxc-550-ii. I listen to mostly heavy metal (think whitechapel, trivium, gojira) I am using a android and a PC (windows10) the xm4 are costing 300$ right now for me
@@DHRME Thx a lot ! The videos did in fact, help ! I see that the PXC have a neutral sound. I think the sony's would be better in my situation. A lot of new metal bands have a lot of low end with 7 strings guitars. And the guttural vocals are very low. Theses headphones would be mainly use for listening to music on my android devices AND watching youtube on my PC while sipping some coffee. I can put them wired so if there is too much latency ! And, I have to admit that the EQ is something VERY nice ! AND I also prefered the look of sony's and PXC. Didnt like the ''attention seeker look'' of momentum ahah ! Would this be possible? My first option was the surface 2 but I heard the pass thru mode was kind robotic and "underwater". Thanx for any advice!
@@DHRME awesome, ty! the xm4 also have an "attention" mode that can be left as always on? every review I checked they always mention that "cover the hear cup" or the new automated mode, so not sure if you can just toggle it and leave it on
@@DHRME nice! thank you guys! gonna give it a try. hopefully with music at low enough volume people won't have to throw coffee mugs at me to ask me something ;)
The Bose 700 have the best "pass thru" audio, it is the most natural ambient sound of any of the ANC wireless headsets that I own. I prefer the overall sound of the MK4 but I use my Bose 700 when mic and ambient noise quality matters the most (in an office setting), and the MK4 when I want that nice punchy sound (music and movies), on the go.

I can't compare em to the Ionic 50s as I haven't tried them & I'm not an audiophile either although I really appreciate high quality sound and I'm 100% satisfied with the XM4s!
Have you seen the new Silent White XM4?
Yes, look nice!
I’m thinking of getting a pair of xm4, but do they really cancel out all noise just by turning on ANC, without playing any music? I work from home, and the noise of children playing outside can be annoying. Thank you guys.
That kind of noise will be cancelled out, but don't expect total silence!
@@DHRME wow, if that’s the case, can you do a video on how much noise, or what types of noise can a pair of ANC headphones really cancels out?
We've done multiple. Check out the videos on the channel.
Honestly, yours guys videos are great but the mic lets it down a bit I would say.
I know! This was our second attempt, posted about it in the community as well. We need to get new hardware. Thanks for being patient!
good job, guys.
Hey great review, enjoying your channel :)
Do you experience any hissing with the XM4s or XM3s when ANC is on and you don't play any music?
Blackstratblues nice.
👊
So, if iphone 8 plus, sennheisser 550 II instead?
Do you think that getting the XM4 and then using the EQ to tune it to
sound better is a better overall choice than choosing something like
say, the Sennheiser PXC 550 iis or the Momentum 3s? I'm worried about
the sound stage and the instrument separation since I play the guitar
and would more enjoy if these attributes were better, but I don't know
how much better the competition really is.
I think these and the Momentums are very close. The PXCs are a slightly different beast - much flatter. The Sony's take EQs tremendously well, but some prefer the Momentums just for the sound. As an overall package however, the Sony's are slightly better.
What's the full form of DHRME?
Any suggestions? ;)
Direct Halcyon response from me 🤣
Definitely Has Realistic Meanings Emanating
Bose is the absolute BEST at Noise cancelling, voice calls, ambient sound pass through.
The XM4 are for those who want that BUMP in their music. Bose 700 has their signature sound (light on bass), and you can’t change it.
Microsoft surface 2 is subpar on both accounts by my tastes... but they are also cheaper if I recall correctly. Also the dials are nice, but to be honest, not a game changer
I haven’t tried any other premium headphone brands, I spent a month with all the brands above.
I tried the Sennheiser momentum’s and I really liked them in so many ways but I think I’d wait for Their next version.
Bose has the eq back now, but even with that said: I agree 🙂
I thought they were the same guy with and without beard
0:00 Did you guys just threw them down to make that reversed video??
Hi
How i can use my headphone my xbox1 or playstation connecting and play and chat my friends. please help
I had to adjust settings in developer mode on my Android smartphone, because LDAC codec wasnt used automatically, but everytime I connect my headphones have to change LDAC audio playback settings to 660kbps..any option how to fix that to not do it over and over again?
No idea. What does Dr Google say?
@@DHRME People writting about how to change codec to LDAC but doesnt go further than that
@@RoMusic2011 did u manage to solve the issue?
@@anandkumarjaggi I gave up I changed priority settings to connection and its automatically to AAC codec and its ok for me
no disturbance or changing settings every day. its annoying
@@RoMusic2011 Thx for the info..which phone are you on btw if u dont mind me asking?
When i put them on i can still hear tv
Is there a button to cancel out all noise. Im new. And can't figure it out
I am very hesitating between the xm4's and the sennheiser pxc-550-ii. I listen to mostly heavy metal (think whitechapel, trivium, gojira) I am using a android and a PC (windows10) the xm4 are costing 300$ right now for me
Maybe this helps? ua-cam.com/video/KdRW5QY6l9M/v-deo.html
I'm a fellow metal head as well. :)
And I know that bluethoot 5,0 got A/C for the latency so I should be good ! Thx for the great videos !!!
You’re welcome! Feel free to use it links if our advice helped!
And also I am anxious to know what happened to the headphones 🥺
Xm4 vs freebuds studio ANC test please
Can you test that it turns off Bluetooth if I listen to music with 3.5mm?
It doesn't force turning off. You can choose to have it on.
Just got them today, and when I tested the anc only, i can still hear the tv and the kids playing. I think all anc should be called noise minimizing.
Well, it is noise cancelling and not noise eliminating!
@@DHRME Great point.
Listening on the XM4's.. 😅😅
Hi peeps! I'm a programmer, I would like to use these headphones in an open office environment with low volume and "pass through" always on to be able to hear and speak to my team mates. Would this be possible? My first option was the surface 2 but I heard the pass thru mode was kind robotic and "underwater". Thanx for any advice!
Surface 2 works fine for us. :)
@@DHRME awesome, ty! the xm4 also have an "attention" mode that can be left as always on? every review I checked they always mention that "cover the hear cup" or the new automated mode, so not sure if you can just toggle it and leave it on
@@zabu1458 Yup. You can leave it on ambient mode all the time.
Hold on! Codec was something else. It is basically encrypts and decrypts music files. No?
Encodes and decodes. Hence codec for short. Encryption is another thing entirely.
Oh yeah. Right. But it does not mean that it connects the device with the headphones. Codecs where there long before wireless music.
The guy has a bigger beard in every video
Someday i want to be a fuk-man as well xD
Hi, anybody using wh-1000xm4 headphones with Vmware Horizont Client? I have issues with loosing sound when start conference call in virtual desktop...
Worth the buy not the upgrade
The xm3 earbuds is way better than xm3 headphones imo.
I can recommend Xm4 , the only Doctor may be haa
