Welcome to Georgia. I just found your channel and enjoyed the content, I am a big fan of small fixed blades. I have Bradford Guardians, White River Backpackers and Lionsteel M1s. They are all super steels, but I am retired and have the time to hand sharpen. Since I do not use them often, the need is not frequent.

Carried an Izula 2 horizontal appendix carry edc for a long time and it did the job. Recently upgraded to a Creely Mako in magnacut and love it. It is a little harder to sharpen than 1095 but not by much on a KME sharpener and holds an edge for many times longer. Can't go wrong with smaller edc fixed blades, they can do 99% of what you need. If you're going to need a bigger knife you'll know it and probably have one with you. I've hit that age where folders (even auto openers) are a bit of a pain even though I've drawers full of them.

Knife fighting is not for me, I want something to keep people away from me not confronting people at close range to knife fight. I’ll take my S&W 66 .357 snub anyday.
That said the small fixed blades are nice for everyday use. I have a Bradford Guardian 3.5 that I’ll wear now-and-again.

I started carrying a fixed blade for EDC after watching one of your other videos. The Esee CR2.5 in a kydex sheath on a dangler is dynamite; it's like a paring knife on steroids. I definitely prefer the high carbon steel knives moreso over some "super steels" in some of my folders, they're simple, robust and functional.

I have had either a Shefield plastic Exacto knife or now a bigger Amazon version of plastic Exato knife in my pocket, those are so useful for me and one for work in a kitchen, before this I had a smaller of a two set of folders from Ozark Trail with blue durable phenolic plastic handle before it fell apart, some Walmart ones I got in 2009 when a then almost 25 year old tent exploded and we were getting a new tent after a vacation. I use the other bigger knife same type of handle as a deer/animal knife and for some bigger cut things the small blade can't get.
My brother has a Folder that a person made in South Dakota that is his everyday carry but it came with a leather sheath that can hook on a belt, he has it for use as a job with parents in a Green House they have owned since January 2nd 2016 and the property since sometime in 2017 from the original owners in town. Before this he had some bigger folding knife that was over 10--15 years old depending on when the original owner got it, that my brother got from somebody who had a relative that worked airport security for about 1/2 of the same brand new. He has that knife as a deer and other animal skinning knife now since it is kind of big.

@@SamkoTradBow Yes and for the reason at work of getting it wet I love this as they tend to rust out as they only make lower end stainless steel. With the one I have the cheap clones of plastic from Amazon, they need to break in the connector to accept other blades as the plastic is off from the blade. last time I forgot I need to do this break in of needing to slam the part back to closed so I ended up with a bad cut that took a week to heal to near full normal due to trying to force the safety part closed on own and have hand slip. These are the foldable blades I love to use for my everyday use that get about 85% of my needs.

I personally like coldsteel mini pendleton hunter in aus10.
I don't understand people paying crazy money for a tiny $30 knife. Steel isn't expensive its all a marketing scam.
Im done buying crazy priced knives. Im making my own.
Plus im working on a puuko now.
Realistically for the price of two name brand knives i can buy everything to make my own.
Fortunately being a mechanic and metal fabricator i have everything anyway. This way my heat treatment will be spot on not 3 points maybe.

Back in the old military when we still used LBEs. The first thing you learned was tie everything to you.
We spent hours cleaning out 550 cord using certain lengths for different things using the inside to tie small stuff.
All that said I lost my gas mask at EIB in Colorado. We had to untie everything to match the regular army. They didn't want use rangers to appear different. Lol. Everyone knew when rangers were around.
My buddy hooked me up they wanted me to pay $100 in 1991 on E4 pay.

Couple months later I see it “hung up” on the edge of a box in the basement! Must have snagged it trying to get to something.
      Man was I happy!
Knife clips fail. Knife’s clips sometimes let go of the pocket they are on. In the woods, everything is tied on or inside a secured backpack pocket. The woods love to steal everything!

You mention, carrying that large fixed blade occasionally for self defense. Sir, I hope you have trained extensively with the blades for that type of situation, I hope you are in excellent physical condition and I hope you have the mental frame work to actually use it, without being graphic. I simply do not think that you have thought that through, because from the looks of things, it would be taken from you and it would be used to mortally wound you. Personal protection with a knife is only realistic for high level special operations groups operators or other trained leo and/or military, unless you happen to be one very dedicated every day citizen.

The large fixed blade will help me if I a gator grabs my angle crossing a swamp, or wild dogs come at me. That said my little 3 inch edc fixed blade I have trained quite a bit with and do know how to use it for defense if I have to.

@chippooutdoors5325 that sucks about the theft. We just had our brand new grill stolen off our back porch 2 nights ago. If I find the guy that did it I'm gonna hold him under water until the bubbles stop😂

I have a few videos if you search kydex on my channel. Heat the kydex in the oven, wrap around blade, put between 2 pieces of foam and step on it for 10 mins. The drill, install rivets, and fine tune
