I never idolized Gulzar, because my father already told me that Gulzar is totally different from what he writes. Rakhi ji was such a beautiful and talented actress, her movies like ' kabhi kabhi' , ' sharmeeli', ' Jeevan mrityu', list is so long I can't even count her finest works. One should fully analyse his/ her partner before getting married, otherwise life, career, mental peace every thing gets ruined.
My father too told this Gulzar regularly beat Rakhee not only on that night.

I realised that he was a chauvinistic fellow just looking at his films. Always pushed for male supremacy in a very sophisticated way.
The "liberated wonan" is portrayed in a way that shows he lacks any real understanding of the psyche of such a person. Like Anuradha Patel's character in Ijaazat, they come to a bad end, either due to untimely death, or falling prey to the carrion eaters of society.
Sampuran Singh Kalra may be a competent lyricist, but he is a typical macho Punjabi man. Doesn't really understands independent women. So when Rakhi questioned his inappropriate behavior for a married man, he could not handle it.
People always ridiculed Rakhi for her slurred speech and alleged alcoholism, but I felt there was deep trauma that was responsible for her state.
I'm so glad that Rakhee had the mental strength to rebuild her life on her own terms
What a beauty, and full of talent, Rakhee. It's a shame Gulzar, being the great writer and poet, couldn't treat his lovely wife respectfully and lovingly. All his writings are meaningless when he himself is a stone hearted man. He ruined her life. But hats off to her, that she's made herself independent.

It was shocking to see this video. Gulzar always had the reputation of being a decent man and it was shameful that he beat his wife black and blue for such a trivial reason. This is an example of a wolf in sheep's clothing. No man has the right to stop his wife from working. Rakhi did the right thing by walking away from a violent marriage to preserve her dignity.

I have personally seen the other side of Gulzar....i experienced it at a literary function in Delhi a few years ago.....He was so rude to his fans !.....i could not imagine a person of his caliber was behaving like that at a public function....It was a shocking surprise for me and that incident changed my opinion about him as a person.

Marriage is not a beautiful cage to keep someone forever, instead it should grant freedom and support to the other to flourish and fly. One incident changed Rakhee's life forever, and yes, she took right decision at right time. In most cases, Indian women won't take such steps even in such situations, and simply blame fate and settle. Rakhee set an example, long back in 1970s, on how we should give importance to our self respect and dignity more than anything else and anyone else, even if it's own husband. Certain boundaries are needed to keep every relation green and healthy. That's it!!

Sadly, two other famous marriages during that time were based on a similar condition: Rajesh - Dimple, Amitabh - Jaya. Rajesh also used to beat Dimple and so she left him. Sanjeev Kumar had put such a condition to Hema Malini but she did not accept.

This is the second episode of Shweta Jaya Filmy Baatein I finished watching. Your topics are unique, and I was drawn to them even though I consciously avoid Bollywood gossip.
I knew the reason for the Gulzar-Raakhee separation. But I always thought it was one of those usual husband-wife arguments that went a bit too far.
Thank you for throwing light on a shocking, unknown side of Gulzar's personality. But we should not pass any judgment without knowing their version of the incident. Especially when both Raakhee and Gulzar have never spoken about it.
Hope you don't mind me saying this. You raise curiosity and then take very long to come to the point. Almost like an Ekta Kapoor serial, you like to tease your viewers. Maybe you should review your scripts more carefully and delete unnecessary and repetitive material.

राखी जी ने शादी के वक्त जो शर्त गुलजार जी रख्खी थी वो नहीं माननी थी, नर्म शब्दो से गुलजार जी ने जो रचनाएँ लिखीं हैं वो काबिले तारीफ़ है, दोनों इतनें समझदार होते हुए भी छोटी सी गलतफहमी की वजह से अपनी जिंदगी में हमेशा-हमेशा के लिए जुदा हो गए, और अकेले हो गए।
Everything on earth can be won by love and understanding. As a human being we do have flaws and setback in life. So, might be with Gulzarji too. May be in his personal life he was over obsessed on his wife Rakheeji. But this was not behaviour we did expected of him at that point of time. He should have some patience.
I thought writers poets understood ppls feelings society more closely than other professional PPL...and much ahead of time like Manto...ji ...but I was wrong
