I am a disabled vet (no mobility issues) currently living in Texas. My girlfriend and I are looking at living to your area. We want to rent something first while we search for our retirement home. What would you recommend we do? I will be relying on a VA loan and am eligible for the “no property tax” disability rate.
Nice to meet you! Yes - if you have 100% disabled status then you have your ad valorum taxes waived. There are still nonadvalorum taxes, but those are minimal comparison. Definitely start with a lender to see what you can expect on their side, that way you can weigh the full costs scenario. Our rents have been raised here, so you will want to compare the two and decide if you want to rent for a short term rental (under a year) or a long term rental (year plus). Some times people compare the two and realize that going to an AirBnb for a couple months makes more sense than doing a long term rental. Feel free to reach out directly to run your scenario: ChelseaRobinson@KW.com
Great video, Chelsea. I'll be considering a retirement move to FL in a couple of years. I will keep up with your videos until then.
Glad you found it useful! If you have any questions feel free to ask!
