      Funny, me too. The XPS has a crappy keyboard and cooling, but gets all the attention. The Latitudes seem like much better laptops for creators, though 16:9 screens aren’t optimum. The Precision line has some smoking processor options, but is the Quadro video somehow not right for video editing/rendering? We’ll be waiting for answers to these and other questions, Lisa!

    Should have rj45 in the back of one of those hinges - corporate wifi's often rubbish and cable in meeting/conf rooms is handy. That nifty port dongle will be left on the desk or lost in no time.

      Agree although partly can be mitigated by having docking stations for every desk, and even meeting rooms. Nowdays, universal USB-C docks can support virtually all brands.

    Soon as we got to "full ips glossy" I had to bail. Matte screens are so much better for production use. I think they make them that way for the initial "wow" effect when you're looking at it in the store. It's the same reason they sell low profile screens --so you can see impressive videos in the store. When you get home and start surfing the internet, you think, "It's sure filling up a lot of space on the sides with unimportant content." The ideal screen size is actually a square.

    • @RhajeemCrawford
      @RhajeemCrawford 5 років тому +2

      If you're willing to pay $1600 for this BASE version you may as well buy a better laptop for school such as the XPS line up. If you aren't restricting yourself to Dell you can get a Surface Laptop/Pro/Book or if OS isn't a limiting factor you can buy a reliable MacBook. This laptop is mostly business oriented but with it's current specifications and price tag I personally would skip this laptop all together.

    • @7Write4This9Heart7
      @7Write4This9Heart7 5 років тому +3

      I'd skip it, too (you can get WAY better for that price!), but I'd also skip the Surfaces. They have 0-1/10 repairability/upgradability scores on iFixIt. I don't trust (modern) Macbooks either (check out Louis Rossman's channel for why). I'd go for a Lenovo, personally (in this price range, if you want a premium device (2-in-1 or not), more specifically a Thinkpad. I've heard XPSes have had awful quality control issues lately.

    • @RhajeemCrawford
      @RhajeemCrawford 5 років тому

      @@7Write4This9Heart7 that is true as well. If she's not looking for upgradability I wouldn't skip out on the surfaces though. I've owned them before up to the surface 2017 before it was stolen and I found myself using that to take notes over using my notebook but yeh if you want to upgrade later then you're pretty much stuck with what you've got. HP has some good offerings as well if you're looking for a 2-in-1 device but I agree with the Lenovo. They have been showing their presence especially in the business world. Their new Thinkpad x1 Carbon is a serious powerhouse at a much lower price than this Dell Latitude. The new LG Grams are also great laptops that are very light weight

    • @7Write4This9Heart7
      @7Write4This9Heart7 5 років тому

      @@RhajeemCrawford Well, that's true on the upgradability of the Surfaces, but there's also the issue where, if something fails, like the soldered on SSD, you're screwed. (Hence the iFixIt repairability score of 0-1/10.) So I, personally, don't think it's worth it, but to each his own. HPs, for me, have never had good build quality (espec in hinges) or good thermals, but again, up to the buyer. If it were me and I could get a 2-in-1, hands down, my dream comp would be the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3rd gen) (4th gen is coming out in June or July, but there are a ton of changes to it that a huge number of fans and I don't like, so we're going for the 3rd gen instead). The Lenovo Yoga C930 is another worthy contender there!

    I've grown fond of Dell products and have been using them for a while. Currently using a Dell Inspiron 13 7375 for work and I must admit at first there were a lot of driver issues since it was the Ryzen 5 version which wasn't well optimized but they stepped their game up and now I'm having no issues. I must say however I find the specifications of this Latitude to be quite underwhelming given its price tag. If you're willing to pay $1600 for this BASE version you may as well buy a better laptop such as the XPS line up. If you aren't restricting yourself to Dell you can get a Surface Laptop/Pro/Book or if OS isn't a limiting factor you can buy a reliable MacBook. I understand that this laptop is mostly business oriented but with it's current specifications and price tag, with this much competition out there I personally would skip this laptop all together.

      I'd avoid a Surface of any kind, mostly Book, since they have repairability/upgradability scores of 0-1/10 on iFixIt. MacBooks are...also not something I'd touch with a ten foot pole, but that's your choice. But yeah, for the price? You can do a LOT better! Yikes!
