Sometimes the TCAS will alert you of a plane that is on the ground. Or, if there were a parallel runway, it could be alerting of traffic on that runway taking off/landing The ATC would make sure that there was no traffic issues during an approach like this. Thats why the pilots did nothing about it.
Nahum Strickland Warnings of proximity are common, what you do NOT want to hear is "Climb !, Climb !" (or "Descend !", Descend !"). If those go unheeded you will get a '"INCREASE CLIMB !", or "INCREASE DESCEND". Look up "Air Crash Investigations - Deadly Crossroads".
Nahum Strickland If you're referring to the countdown of feet to the runway. That system is called TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System.) Or, some aircraft have GPWS (Ground Proximity Warning System.)
The wonders of ILS. I remember a similar landing in Zurich in 2006. The pilots just have to have faith in the technology - and ILS is what keeps airports open when they otherwise should not! .
I think Rudolph's nose so bright has a built in CAT 3 Approach system. Santa seemed quite happy when he flew in front of the jet, so he must trust Rudolph's advanced in-flight TCAS.
etu digger But does he have landing lights? Also I hear he uses a special, prototypical MAALS (Magic Assisted Approach and Landing System). I hear he also has a HUGS that is built into the ass of Blitzen. Rudolphs nose works as both TCAS and rotating beacon. Donner is the radar equipment.
Absolutely awesome!!!!! A great little bonus Christmas present for us all! Thanks so much for posting this and all of the other vids. I'm looking forward to more great stuff in 2014! All the best to you!
Its pretty incredible the engineering and fine tuning process over the years have now made it possible to these kind of things. As a passenger it is my dream to get an opportunity to ride the cockpit jumpseat. Would be like a kid in a candy shop only NO PRESSING BUTTONS !
haha i just had it on the welcome page and i saw these red things going past while i was doing other things and i was like seconds later, wait a minute what usually goes past like that. so i rewinded it :D very funny :)
WOW, ... I mean, just WOW!!!!!! To see absolutely NOTHING until just a little way above the runway. It goes to show how far automated landings have come and how much trust you have in the technology. By the way, Santa needs to get his ass back to flight school.
+danahan01 Not really, there's very little room for error in an Autoland approach. Also crews have been trained specifically and are extra cautious and alert. Kind of the same reason why there never were any serious accidents landing in Hong Kong Kai Tak.
jibeneyto So I looked it up and a total of 195 people were killed at Kai Tak before it closed. I guess if you don't count death as being "serious" then there were no serious accidents at Kai Tak.
+danahan01 195 fatalities over the entire life span of Kai Tak is an EXCELLENT record in absolute terms, and even more so if you consider how difficult it is to get in and out of there :). In MANY airports there's been more deaths in just ONE single air accident (JFK, LAX, CDG, AMS, MAD etc) :)
Rather than Santa showing up, I keep thinking about this being one of those videos where something really scary jumps out at your. Not that the landing wasn't scary enough 😬
Sehr geil! Coole Aussicht! Mir gefällt es wie die Bergspitzen aus dem Wolkenmeer herausragen. Beinahe hätte es kein Weihnachten gegeben ;) Mit welchem Programm hast du das bearbeitet? Like!
Thats more like CAT II not CAT III check out my CAT III B landing at Lucknow video to see what an actual CAT III landing is. But nevertheless its an amazing video mate...Beautiful landing..Fog landngs are always beautiful.
It is absolutely amazing how those planes can land them selves dead center on the runway all by them self. Even tho I know the system works, it would still likely skeer the crap outta me the first few times using it.
I find myself stumped at identifying the rrrrrrt rrrrrrt rrrrrrrrt sound at 3:22. Thrust reverser engagement perhaps? That would be about the right timing for it.
My heart rate jumped a little when I heard the TCAS warning! That's the last thing you want to hear with that kind of visibility.
Sometimes the TCAS will alert you of a plane that is on the ground.
Or, if there were a parallel runway, it could be alerting of traffic on that runway taking off/landing

Nahum Strickland What you were hearing was the Radio Altimeter.
smlbstcbr Nope, I was referring to the traffic warning alert.
No matter how many times you land in such conditions it's always a tremendous relief to finally see those lights come into view. Great vid.
I never knew santa flew in IMC. I guess its good that Rudolph has ILS capabilities in his nose!
XD
santa forgot to switch his TCAS on
LOL
02:31 ...jajjajjjajjajja...!!! :))))))))))))))
In theory Santa should be going near light speed so this 737 should be pretty much at a standstill relative to santa.
barakat mohammed he also turned off his transponder and quite missed the localizer
Nice to see that Santa has TCAS.
Santa need not have TCAS; The interrogation only needs a mode C or S transponder to issue a TA.
Prepped Pilot Shut up.
Prepped Pilot Bullshit dude....Check ya books
Dang, a Boeing 737-300 has autoland. Not bad!
As a pilot that is the most frightening video I have ever seen. No thank you, that nice city above the clouds to the right would suit me just fine
Cat III is no joke.
The wonders of ILS. I remember a similar landing in Zurich in 2006. The pilots just have to have faith in the technology - and ILS is what keeps airports open when they otherwise should not!
.
Santa got to have his license revoked. ! dunno how many regulations he violated there..overweight,overloaded, separation rules..etc :-D
That's what happens when you have no transponder!
+TheBarnem13 Have you ever tried to make a Reindeer squawk?
Ha Ha ha ha Ha ha
Technology is amazing- thick fog and landed straight on the centre line 👍
Always brings tears to my eyes to see this 😭 so beautiful
Fairytale movie :) Awesome landing!
Great demo of an auto-land, thanks.
Awesome! Really gotta trust your instruments in that kind of approach!!
Wow,now I realized that flying is really safe with autoland...an amazing video, thank you for sharing.
getting to the airport is way more dangerous than flying haha. Merry Christmas!
This is so cool. Essentially, it's landing on a runway in the middle of the clouds. The clouds happen to be on the ground.
I wonder if santa's sleigh can do a CAT3 APP.
I think Rudolph's nose so bright has a built in CAT 3 Approach system. Santa seemed quite happy when he flew in front of the jet, so he must trust Rudolph's advanced in-flight TCAS.

I'm just glad it wasn't the wicked witch of the west!
Quite amazing...thank God for ILS CAT3....liked the two Santa flypasts.....Steve.
Cat3 is a nice invention huh? :D thanks man!
Merci bien pour la vidéo. C'était magnifique!
De rien! :) Joyeux noel!
Absolutely awesome!!!!! A great little bonus Christmas present for us all! Thanks so much for posting this and all of the other vids. I'm looking forward to more great stuff in 2014! All the best to you!
Thank you very much for your kind words! I wish you happy holidays and merry christmas :)
I'm sure there will be more in 2014,. Or even before ;)
Awesome landing! Great view! Merry Christmas and happy new year!!!
Thank you man! To you too :)
Awesome the precision level!
And I thought night time was bad. Good job!!
WooW beautiful video mate!! I love it!! Thanks for sharing!! Well done, liked!!
Love the Santa addition. That 737 sounds like its in dire need of a wheel alignment though.
👍👍👍👍
Awesome Sauce ... winner of a COOL VIDEO AWARD .... definitely THUMBS UP
I couldn't find landing strip until last minute..... Awesome video ....Thanks to technological advancement....
Merry Christmas, and thx for the great vids!!!
to you, too! and you are very welcome haha
Wow! Awesome view man! Merry Christmas to you! :)
Merry Christmas to you, too, man! :D I still laugh everytime I see your pic haha

Super Video. Santa über der Schweiz. Dann ist er ja bald hier. Frohes Fest wünsche ich Dir. :-)
Wünsch ich dir auch! :)
Wonderfull dive through the clouds, merry christmas und schöne Feiertage =]
Frohes Fest dir! :)
Its pretty incredible the engineering and fine tuning process over the years have now made it possible to these kind of things. As a passenger it is my dream to get an opportunity to ride the cockpit jumpseat. Would be like a kid in a candy shop only NO PRESSING BUTTONS !
Why did I hold my breath before going into the clouds lol
I loved when santa rode across I laughed my ass off !!!!!!!!!!!!
Great landing ! have an awesome christmas !
thanks man, you too!!
Ein klasse Video wie immer! Toll gemacht mit dem Weihnachtsmann! Zu mir ist er trotzdem nicht gekommen :-D Ich wünsche noch angenehme Feiertage!
Haha danke dir! Warst du etwa nicht artig dieses Jahr? :P
Dir ebenfalls!
Nicely done , great video, thank you.
haha i just had it on the welcome page and i saw these red things going past while i was doing other things and i was like seconds later, wait a minute what usually goes past like that. so i rewinded it :D very funny :)
Waaaaw great landing
AMAZING!

It's a wonder more jets don't crash flying into weather like this. Amazing!!
+danahan01 Not really, there's very little room for error in an Autoland approach. Also crews have been trained specifically and are extra cautious and alert. Kind of the same reason why there never were any serious accidents landing in Hong Kong Kai Tak.

excellent - and great flypast by those reindeer. I wonder what it feels like for pilots when they have to trust instruments in such conditions.
haha thank you! They feel very safe, you just need to concentrate a lot, since you gotta go around quickly if the ground isn't visible on minimums
The Santa thing was a nice, funny, unexpected detail.
Actually made me laugh out loud, love the vids, a very merry Christmas
Haha nice! Happy holidays to you! :)
Although after Christmas - This video blew me out, watching it over & over again !:)))
#PlanesAddict
Haha awesome! Thanks a lot man :)
Damn. Minimums were like 50 feet from the ground
Nice to know it can do that for you when it's a bit misty.
Santa was awesome!!!
Santa Claus and his reindeer! How cute!
Perfekt automatic landing!
Amazing Pilots !
Excellent video!.The ILS autoland ,when visibillity is almost zero, is very usefull. What would the pilots do without it...
Tell each other..."I think I can! I think I can!
They would go somewhere else.
🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
The first time you do this in that kind of visibility must be a real ring-piece clencher
Thank you for this nice video uploader. 🤗
amazing .. must be a skilled experienced pilot ....
The best video ever
Super Idee,echt klasse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, lustige Idee! :-D
Tolles Video!
Danke dir!! :) freut mich und frohe weihnachten!!
"clear off conflict". Hahaha. well mixed.
That was so funny. thanks. 🙂
Good Stuff. Happy Holidays.
Regards from India.
Cheers..!!
Thank you! Happy holidays to you too! :)
WOW, nice video!!
That was awesome!
Wow, amazing..
Loucura, loucura, loucura!
Santa is a great touch
Scary and Amazing
wow this must be so intense !!! for the pilots if I'm here biting my nails LMFAO
Before reading the description I knew this approach looked familiar!
CAT III is when ceiling is at less then 100 feet, but the video shows clearly (if sound is synchronized) ALS visible around 150 feet = CAT II...
Dam I wouldn't walk down my front stairs in that soup, nice job.
great video!!!!!!!!!!
"Traffic! Traffic!"
In those conditions that sounds scary af.
Ok, the santa part quite cool. You're a funny guy, I subscribe now
Seems like the cockpit, upon rotation for takeoff, would be in the clouds!
Rather than Santa showing up, I keep thinking about this being one of those videos where something really scary jumps out at your. Not that the landing wasn't scary enough 😬
Amazing!
“Then one foggy Christmas Eve............”
This was the moment Rudolph had been waiting for all of his life.
But, imagine what a mid air collision would look like...
😳
very nice video :)
thank you and merry xmas!
***** for you too
Awesome. Can a landing ever be performed with a decision height of less than 50 feet?
IDK about the 737, but it can on the Trident!
Holy moly!
Sehr geil! Coole Aussicht! Mir gefällt es wie die Bergspitzen aus dem Wolkenmeer herausragen. Beinahe hätte es kein Weihnachten gegeben ;) Mit welchem Programm hast du das bearbeitet?
Like!
Gut dass santa auch ein tcas hat :P war magix 2013.
*****
hahaha lol. Moderner Schlitten! magix ist generell sehr cool!
Thats more like CAT II not CAT III check out my CAT III B landing at Lucknow video to see what an actual CAT III landing is.
But nevertheless its an amazing video mate...Beautiful landing..Fog landngs are always beautiful.
Awww, didn't see what I was getting, guess I will ahve to wait.
haha be excited! :P
It is absolutely amazing how those planes can land them selves dead center on the runway all by them self. Even tho I know the system works, it would still likely skeer the crap outta me the first few times using it.
👍👍👍🤪🤪🤪
Damn, MS flight simulator is looking great! 😳
Job well done
What went across the 737 at 1:13 ??
Обалденные кадры
Perfect
Perfect!
thanks
Nice...thanks...
I find myself stumped at identifying the rrrrrrt rrrrrrt rrrrrrrrt sound at 3:22. Thrust reverser engagement perhaps? That would be about the right timing for it.
its is the autopilot dissconect :D
Well blow me down. I didn't realize there was that much variation in AP disc sounds from airplane to airplane. Thanks, mate.
Keem Osabe I'm surprised they disconnected it so soon myself, but it boils down to a matter of preference in the end I suppose.
wow, traffic traffic - that was close ;))
clear of conflict :P happy holidays!
IMC looking thick....and pretty sure Santa is rated for VFR only.....but sled has ILS ......Rudolf is IFR.......
1:11 santa claus is coming to town Lol look up
