Something amazing is happening in Fencing in Hong Kong. With the emergence of Edgar Cheung in men's foil and Vivian in women's epee, it's driving huge interest and huge amounts of money flooding into grassroots fencing with affluent middle class families sending their kids fencing. This can only bode well for the future of the sport in Hong Kong and I predict Hong Kong will shortly becoming a fencing powerhouse just like Korea. As a Hong Kong born fencer, this makes me very proud.
Edgar Cheung is amazing and you can see him so young and already receiving two gold medals from Olympics alone. As for Kong, she is something of a rarity because after 1991, there were very few communist countries sending their athletes and won them awards.

She is actually a native English speaker because she attended international schools in Hong Kong. She speaks Cantonese and Mandarin fluently, but not as good as her English. She speaks Chinese with an a little bit of English accent and occasionally cannot find the words in Chinese.
Vivian, congratulations for being a fine individual and a winner. You have cement my thoughts about hk atheletes that they are not only strong, determined and also a winner post protest. Something about the metality has just florished through hardships.
The further research her profile, Vivian Kong which is another ICON and Legend to Hong Kong Fencing Team. Though she is unable to earn any medal in Tokyo Olympics. I too tore my acl and still working on recovery. Actually, I'm a mess; torn acl, dislocated right shoulder, and tendonitis. Because of those, I developed plantar fasciitis due to lack of activity making walking difficult. Slow progress of healing. Slowly but surely, one day I'll be able to fence again.
