Great review, and really enjoying the consistently hilarious editing in your vids! Love that you and the book are both sitting together at the edge of the water lol
i absolutely LOVE this series and have been waiting years for people to get into it!! i think one fault of this book is that you must read all four books to really get to know the depth of each character but they do get into them and have great character arcs. My fav book in the series is the second one but they're all great!! If anyone is interested by this video PLEASE read it < 3
The title is called Winter Promises, probably to be the closest from the french (Les fiancés de l’hiver)! I read it in french and i’m very happy they did a good work for the translation ! I suggest you to follow the adventure, i loved it! Thank you for your cool reviews as usual :)
Haha I don't know if I could point out to you what the Winter Promises were in the book but whatever! That's good to know the translation was pretty faithful!
Thank you! I read this book because of your post, but I read it before I watched it. And I 100% agree with you on your review! I love the world and am fascinated with the places the story could go, but since this first book devolved into the type of court intrigue story that I despise, I'm not going to read the other three, but I will listen to people talk about it on UA-cam. Tha k you again! I found you for your ACOTAR reviews which I really appreciated, and I will be watching all your content! I adore you and want good things for you! ❤
Kinda late to the party, but here I am 😂 The strength (and weakness) of this series in my opinion is that it is to be read as a whole. Book 1 is the exposition of the series, the start of the big overarching mystery driving the books, but also the very start of the characters' arcs. There are moments later in the series where Ophelia (and the reader) realises that they just looked at the surface of things/people, and completely missed a crucial piece of information. Also, Ophelia at the start is almost the spectator of her own life, and her whole arc is about growth, identity, purpose and independance. She NEEDS to have an almost non-existent personality at first because her arc is about finding her own voice (but I agree it makes her hard to relate to at first). Oh and the title in french means "Winter's fiancés" (in reference to Ophelia and Thorn getting engaged and going to Thorn's arch)
Great review. I read it Christmas 2022 and was carried into the whole series in delight. I love live-action films (I feel like I connect with the characters more) but for me this was definitely a Ghibli-esq anime! The world building is phenomenal.
100% agree with you on character development. I really wanted to love this series :( Book One: ohhh, interesting! But some weird characters. Book Two: okay, getting into it!! Book Three: ok? What? Book Four: WTF!! I felt cheated for being invested until the end, even though it really really started dragging from book 3 :/
I read along with you and I whole heartedly agree with your sentiment that the world building was fantastic, but that the characters left something to be desired. Buuuut, perhaps this was just the introduction and character arcs will build. I’ll be continuing to see if it does. Other book recommendations: A completed duology by Rebeccca Ross: Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. Might not be a best seller at Powell’s, but it should be. 😂
Thanks for reading along! It's really cool to know that you I'm not alone in this journey! Yeah I thought maybe this was just a lot of set up for the characters, however I don't think it should take more than one book to sell us on the characters but we'll see! Oh cool, I'll check that out next time I'm at Powell's!
Im obsessed with your videos 😭 its unhealthy 🥸
That's so kind, thank you!

I recommend you to read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. First book is one of the greatest starts to a trilogy.
After he reads all the Brandy Sandy books its off to the Red Rising series 😘
I've been meaning to get to Sanderson at some point. I heard a lot of great things about Red rising last year
100% agree with you on character development. I really wanted to love this series :(

Hahaha I love that one line recap! I'm open to reading further into the series but now that my reading list is stacking up it might be pushed
I love the Zelda backgrounds and music ❤
