Thank you for providing the answers to one of my greatest problems! Got to get me some conditioning cream as I am so tired of, every time I get my Bodhran out of the case, it sounding like a biscuit tin. :D

Humidity can affect the drum in MINUTES. I went to a drumming circle last night in Colorado Springs. It had rained during the day. The tone was fine, and as i played it, it got higher. Weird. Then, as night came and the moon rose, it got lower again. I am told I need to tighten it, but it is calf skin, so it was an eye opener. I heard someone say shea butter helps, too.

I noticed when you played the bodhran you just put water on your left hand went against the back of the skin for a lower tone. When you played the one without the water you held the bodhran by the back brace or handle. Of course the sound will be higher.
