My dad bought me a Gillette Sensor razor when I was like 15 or 16. Probably used that set up for 20 years! Im 42 now and graduated to Harry’s . The Gillette Sensor is a definite workhorse but a 2 blades razor isn’t quite enough for my liking.
Same here. My dad bought it for me for my first year of High School in 1994. I still have the handle. I can't let it go. Been using it since I was 14. 42 now
I've found no use for the micro fins at all. It just slows me down, and I don't feel like I get a closer shave with them. The thinner head with less real estate wins for me.
Great video. First time viewer. How I got here: a local supermarket is cleaning house and have a few boxes of 10x sensor blades for $1 each. Those were what I used 20 years ago so that brought back some memories. So I grabbed them, and thought what a deal, only to realize how difficult it is to find the original handle. I ended up getting a Taconic handle so I can use these blades. I love the sensor blades. They are simple, basic, and get the job done. I think Gillette made a mistake discontinuing these.
They never discontinued it they just abandoned the high quality handle and replaced it with a cheap plastic handle in the mid 2000s. It would be nice if they would bring out the original handle next year for the 30th anniversary. Also it would be great if they would bring back those Gillette products from that time with the iconic packaging and different product scents.
Yay, the video myself and B-MAN have been waiting on! IMO, the excel's excess drag reduces the comfort of the shave for me, as well as the fact that the shave isn't as close with the excel, but as always YMMV! All the best👍👍👍👍🏴.
I would have to say the Excel head is superior to the sensor head. You get more skin contact and closeness with the excel design. I didn’t think so originally, but bought a multi pack of original sensors cause of the online deal and after testing one found that to be the case. Now dumb me I have 3 extra packs to use up.
@@averageguytestedWell, that was the advertising - but I'm going to agree with B Man. I've used the same Sensor since 1988 - I think I flirted with the Excel version but found it "too much". Like you relayed B Man had said "more drag" In over 36 years - other than on very specific occasions totalling at most a year in all when I've had no other option - I have not had the slightest inclination even to flirt with the alternatives. Although I used to shave more often, I probably only do so twice a week. At that rate, a single cartridge can last 3 months which means a pack of ten lasts 2.5 years! I've previously bought 3-4 packs of 10 at a time. Forty blades, by the above calculation, gives about a decade and indeed, very roughly I have found myself buying them only 2 or 3 times since forever! I know it sounds crazy, but I'm so worried about not being able to buy them in the future, I'm in my mid Fifties and now that that time is here again, I m seriously considering getting maybe 12 packs of them to a) almost ensure I'll never have to face the trauma of having to find some other shaving system at my oldest and most curmudgeonly and b) inflation proof myself against the future cost of wet shaving. After all, £95 or so (about $120) seems not much for 30 years' worth of blades...not to mention the comfort of never having to even think about procuring new blades again. On the other hand, I m also convinced enough that a massive MI is gonna carry me off all of a sudden, it is kinda upsetting to me that so many brand new blades would get tossed totally unappreciated after my premature demise after the previously mentioned major cardiac episode!!😂
I purchased my gillette sensor excel years ago and every time I try to upgrade to new one I end up returning it because they are bulky, awkward and clearly over-engineered. I have come to the realization I will continue to buy this razor until they are discontinued. Judging by the price (just for original handle & single razor on Ebay for $90) I think these will stay around for long time.
Just got my old "sensor handle" but I ordered the sensor 3 blades by tectonic and I have to say for being both knock offs they are great the pivot on my sensor blades are really grindy not as smooth as yours now I don't knock the blades for that I love the fixed head track to style but I will be purchasing some original sensor excel blades to match my sensor excel handle

Any version of the Gillette Mach 3, even the Mach 3 Power is still THE CLEAR WINNER of the cartridge blade wars. As much as I love my Defender Blade cartridges, the added spacing of the Defender blades, even with the extra sensitive individual blade lube strips, seems to still cause me some redness and irritation along my neck that doesn't happen at the same level/degree with either my Gillette Mach 3 blades or even my DSC/Dorco 4 blade carts.. Been thinking about switching back to my Gillette Mach 3. By far as given me years of really nice shaves and now that I am using “better shave gels and creams, like my Dr.Carver's Shave Butter and Gillette Foaming Mousse, the shaves with my Gillette Mach 3 have been much better than I remember. I think I may switch back to using my Gillette Mach 3 for 2020.
I was inspired to fall down the Gillette Sensor/Sensor Excel rabbit hole. I should curse you for encouraging me to spend more money but I do enjoy them for a drama free shave. 🤣 That said, I like the original Sensor better as I find it "slicker". Do you have advice or experience on how to remove the rubber "microfins" as I would like to use up the remainder of my package of Excel cartridges. Thank you and keep on making videos.
I agree with you about the original being slicker. No way to remove the fins - just approach the strokes slower. You make be able to slick things up with some preshave oil. More money spent, but we’ll worth it unless you use shave gel, which is similar to preshave oil.
