Alesund (Norway - Noorwegen) on the tunes of Edvard Grieg - Morning Mood

Alesund is known as the Norwegian capital of art nouveau. A dramatic event however is the cause of this. Before 1904 most houses were built in wood, which was very common in Norway. A great fire in 1904 unfortunately burnt down practically the entire town. The town was reconstructed but now in stone in the art nouveau style that was in fashion at that moment. The town has a jugenstil museum and also a fisheries museum, since fishing has always been important for Alesund. Music: Edvard Grieg, Morning Mood (Peer Gynt suite)

Alesund is bekend als de art nouveau hoofdstad van Noorwegen. Een dramatische gebeurtenis lag echter aan de basis hiervan. Voor 1904 waren de meeste huizen in hout opgericht, zoals gewoon is in Noorwegen. Een grote brand in 1904 legde jammer genoeg vrijwel het hele stadscentrum in as. De stad werd heropgebouwd maar nu in steen en in de stijl die toen in de mode was: art nouveau. Er is een jugenstil museum in het centrum en er is ook een visserij museum, gezien vis altijd heel belangrijk is geweest voor Alesund. Muziek: Edvard Grieg, Morgenstemming (Peer Gynt Suite).
