- President Biden is set to unveil a sweeping immigration relief program that would offer legal protections to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens. CBS News chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes has more details on the program.

This is not new this just allows them to apply for residency asap. Because the normal way would be the Spouse would have to sponsor them and show proof of income and the undocumented would have to be seen by customs at an entry port to get the entry stamp on their passport to be compliant. Once you have the stamp the rest is streamlined. All this new policy does is remove the requirement of getting the i-94 stamp on their passport. Again nothing new other than removing the arrival/departure stamp requirement. What they really need to address is securing the border to prevent migrants from crossing illegally and address those who actually did come here legally and have their I-94 and over stayed their visas. Amnesty for undocumented is not a solution or path to citizenship. If all they want is work then the most the US should do or even consider id work permit and only offer conditional residency after 5 years and then have conditional residency for 10 years at which point it can be residency without the possibility of citizenship. Citizenship should only be for those who came here and followed protocol.

This is good for American citizens if their spouse isn't yet a citizen. Would you rather see a family split up because of a broken immigration system that Republicans only want to campaign on?

I had always been told that Mexicans who crossed over illegally, regardless of age, were unable to marry US citizens. They had to go back to Mexico and apply to come in legally. So are all these people from Venezuela, Guatemala, etc. going to go back to their counties and wait to be admitted legally? Hard working, good people who have been in the US for over ten years should be offered citizenship first, regardless of marital status.
Exactly, my parents came here legal and both became citizens, they even had to take a test , I remembered practicing with my mom for the big day she had the test , even one of my family member was denied a visa but they let all of these undocumented people in , it's crazy , sometimes we don't know if they're murderers

Anyone who is threat to the Country, defense, laws and citizens will not get any immigration relief. It's funny how citizens think it's super easy to get green card, one of the requirement is to have recent fbi report, letters from local police, and other good moral character requirements.

I married an American citizen in the Civil Court 6 months before getting married by the church. I applied for legal residency the same day we got married by the Civil Court in order to be a legal resident by the time we got married by the church. One of my nephews did the same thing. Why the spouses of the American citizens did not apply the day they got married?
If you entered legally you don’t get the green card neither unless you do the process, meaning filling forms AND PAY the fees

Out of curiosity, how do people feel about this? This person was brought over as a child, that child grows up gets an education, works for the city they live in as a "dreamer" in their field of education. Assists in making local drinking water the best in the entire state they live in. (FOR REAL). Marries US citizen. They have two kids. Owns a home with spouse. Fostered children multiple times to help others. Contributes more to the community they many US citizens. Does this person not deserve US Citizenship? No, it doesn’t work like that! I came to the U.S. as an exchange student and got married. We have to apply for a green card and it takes a LOT of money and time. No one gets a green card just for being married.
