I saw OHMSS on the big screen this weekend just passed (benefits of being a Brit) and despite it being my number 1 already, I was completely enraptured in it, and found myself getting extremely emotional with it, especially as it approached its end. I knew what was coming, and for the first time, actively didnt want it to end that way. Rigg is just phenomenal, and Lazenby, despite the critics, puts in a solid performance, and the end where he cries into her as she is dead in his arms, really got to me, and I was tearing up in the aisle. Seeing it on the big screen for the first time really allowed me to become involved in the nuance of the performances, and really resonated with me in a way it previously hadnt.
Which is a very long winded way of me saying that there is always new ways to connect and be involved with the films, even if you think you have seen them a hundred times and know them inside out.... well, its all about perspective after all.

I couldn't get to cinema to see OHMSS I but my wife and children went to see You Only Live Twice last weekend and we all really enjoyed it. Bond films are so much better on a cinema screen. I've mostly read official Bond novels written post-Fleming because I know I'm getting a completely fresh story not related to the films. It means I can really imagine everything afresh and that includes picturing actors who I think fit all the roles in the Novel. Never Send Flowers, Carte Blanche, Zero Minus Ten and The Union Trilogy are all fantastic official novels that could work well as movies if Eon were willing to take the leap.

I'm grateful to Craig, but I'd prefer future films to be more about the mission and less about Bond. 'This time it's personal' has been done to death, even if it does provide the star with a chance to exercise his acting chops. No more agonising, soul-searching and inner torment. The lightness used to be what we loved about Bond. Whether the producers/studio will risk pivoting (back) in this direction in our more narcissistic self-indulgent age is another matter.

There's also the anxiety of feeling like creating content for your 'hobby' or 'indulgence' is selfish - even though it can be one of the most important things in your life. People really don't appreciate the amount of work and discipline it takes to produce content at the pace and quality you do.

My Bond origins lie with Goldeneye N64. Back in 1997, for whatever reason, as a 9 year old kid, I started playing Goldeneye on N64. Somebody told me it was based on a movie. So I watched Goldeneye. Loved it. That’s how it started for me. Then I proceeded to watch all the other movies. I’ve been a Bond fan for 25 years. Watching the movies, playing Goldeneye and TWINE. In 2003, my sister gave away our N64 and all our games to her friend. Summer 2021, my sister is friends with someone who owns an N64 and Goldeneye. I ask to borrow game and console. It’s almost a year later and I still have both N64 and Goldeneye. Also a few months ago I tracked down a copy of TWINE as well. The fact I have an N64 here with both Goldeneye and TWINE to play whenever I want is the coolest thing. A window into my childhood. ❤️

To reboot Bond. Go back to basics and see what made this series endure for so long, namely escapism, a sense of fun and a screen protagonist who does his job. Also get rid of Barbara Broccoli, her devotion in pleasing Craig has kept her from devoting to the series.

    • @jamesatkinsonja

Why do you feel the need to personally attack BB? There are far more people involved in Bond other than her yet she seems to get all the flack [for example Micheal G. Wilson is co-producer with her but no one slates him].
While Craig's behind the scenes involvement seemed to be larger, every Bond has input in how the character can be tailored to fit there strengths and this will presumably continue with the next Bond.
I seem to recall people saying 'get rid of George Lucas' with Star Wars yet now a lot of fans say he did a better job with the property.

One was a Super 8mm movie I made back in 1978 based on Fleming's Moonraker novel. The other was recreating the Fleming and the continuation novels book covers based on the pulp look of the 1940's and 50's with a Pan template.

I really love and enjoyed this video gents! I got even a little emotional myself at times, relating to how life has been for you both especially for Joe in the time since No Time To Die’s release and the great discussions that followed. I needed to step away from my own Revisiting Bond, James Bond page on Facebook to gain perspective and to give more focus on my life and the several events going on. I recently sat down to re-watch THUNDERBALL, my favorite of the Bond Films. I admit, I have been very disappointed with No Time To Die, even after seeing it six times. I had been wondering if the producers and filmmakers painted themselves into a corner with the ending and how the heck can the series go forward? My passion for Bond was reignited upon re-watching THUNDERBALL. It is still sooooo damn good! I started posting on my Facebook blog and thinking of creative ways to continue it. Man, I wish you both. Could put together a Bond On The Big Screen Film Festival and have talkback sessions following each screening of the official EON films with various guests and the audience. My favorite recommendation was when you both talked about going back and reading all the Fleming books. There is a rich world and inner life of Bond to discover and discuss. Looking forward to more of your excellent content to come! Thank you both!

Gareth Evans should direct the next reboot movie. His choreographed action in The Raid, The Raid 2, and Gangs of London could really bring a fresh feel to Bond while still feeling classic 007. Plus it’s so amazing, it will excite mass audiences and get them reinvigorated to the franchise.

Listening to you guys is another fantastic way to enjoy my passion for Bond. I have friends who loves Bond too, but not at my level and I miss that a little bit. I fill that empty space with you guys, Calvin, Jeroen, etc.
I am Spanish and recently I discovered a Spanish Bond webpage and podcast that organize meetings in Madrid, they hire a cinema to watch one of the old movies and then go to have lunch or dinner together... Maybe I could go to one of those sometime in the future.
I really appreciate your videos, David and Joe. After this pandemic, and the weird experience that was NTTD (I love 80% of the movie, and hate that awful ending), I feel a little bit disconnected from Bond. Your videos has helped me a lot to feel my passion for Bond coming back.

Unfortunately, at this point in my life I don't really care about Bond anymore.
They have put such a great restart with CR & QOS to waste, it's not even funny. And as long as Barbara is so blinded by Craig, it also doesn't make a lot of sense to go on with the franchse, as much as it pains me to write this.
The best thing tht could happen is for amazon to completely take over and hope they won't fuck up as badly.

Be careful what you wish for. A lot of Lord of the Rings fans are mad at Amazon and the way they have handled the franchise so far. I was a massive Star Wars fan growing. Was, past tense there. I don't like the way Disney has handled the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Even Marvel is experiencing some hiccups. Again, be careful what you wish for.

Very cool to see Head of Section back in action!
    We’ve missed you Joe!
After seeing the thumbnail I think most of us probably thought that you guys were going to
talk about 007 ideas how to reboot the actual franchise - but nope.
    Your suggestions were all terrific.
It’s natural always to wane a little bit in interest once a new film comes and goes.
Especially now - when there is really nothing on the horizon -
(and after seeing Barbara’s comments nothing may be on the horizon for quite a while!)
I find that consuming Bond related stuff also keeps the fire alive -
Whether it’s looking at old spy shows like Man From Uncle
or some similar style spy films like Bourne or the Mission Impossible Series.
Today there was a Fantastic new trailer to MI 7 along with another potential spy
franchise called The Gray Man that are based on some great books
    and which also looks promising.
All of these always come back to Bond though.
I’ve been a fan since I was a little kid in the 60’s and although it always goes up and down
    It NEVER goes away.
Outside of my family - James Bond has been the one constant thing that I’ve loved in my life for
as long as I can remember.
And I bet most fans feel the same way!
Next we need a real REBOOT IDEAS video from you and the gang
    - it looks like EON actually legitimately may need some help with where to go
next - and I bet we here in The Bond Community
can come up with TONS of ideas!

I love the Fleming novels. I have the complete matching paperback set I got off Amazon that I actually read and also all of the collector ones released from Folio Society. I’ve also read all of the continuation books except maybe 1 or 2 I own but I haven’t got to yet. It’s hard to find time to read lately though because unlike a video or a movie that I can pause and come back to later if need be, I hate to put down a book once I’ve started reading. Lately I’ve been on a kick of rewatching the previous films in the series. I also love to come on UA-cam and watch content like this about Bond. I used to play the 007 trivial pursuit game with my son but he has too many other things he’d rather do now that he’s older and about to graduate high school. My other kids that are still at home are only 1 and 5 so they are a little young to fully enjoy Bond. Although, I will say that my 5 year old will recognize something like a song I’m listening to and say “that’s James Bond!”. It warms my heart and makes me so proud (lol).

I feel like non-contemporary settings are popular at the moment as people would rather live in a different, less confusing time. Bond has always moved with the trends so it would be interesting to see it go down this rabbit hole. All I would say is that it would not be a guaranteed success as average viewers may accuse it of being boring and it might only be true fans that "get it".

I totally agree! It also solves the problem of how to write bond on the current political climate. With the period piece you can bring back bond the womanizer and just chalk it up to it being the fifties .

    • @HOTD108_
      @HOTD108_ 2 роки тому +2

I'd like that too, but as Calvin Dyson pointed out, that create a product placement issue. Love it or hate it, product placement has always been a huge part of Bond movies, going all the way back the Connery films, and making them period movies would make that a lot harder. Again, I personally would LOVE some new Bond movies that are set in retro eras, but the reality of things might make that impossible.

I got the feeling Fleming's Bond wanted to settle down. He contemplates proposing to Vesper, lives with Tiffany and talks about having children with Tracey [he tells her father they might need help when children arrive] and then he of course becomes a father unknowingly to Kissy. I felt Craig captured the 'human' aspect of Bond that Fleming sketched out very well.
