Donnie Darko movie has remained a cult classic over the years. When it was released people thought It's a strange film, but after several viewings, this movie's inner meaning and ideology gained a separate fan base among movie lovers. With its twisted plot and likable characters, Donnie Darko is a must-watch movie for thriller lovers.
Even the lead actors didn't understood the plot exactly. They said in an interview 😂

He knows his mom and sister are travelling in an aeroplane at that moment. He uses telekinesis power to navigate the aeroplane towards the vortex. The power of the vortex destroys the flight. He creates a water-portal and guides the engine (the artifact) onto his home, so it crashes exactly like at the start of the movie. Thus the event responsible for creating the tangent universe (artifact crash on donnie's home in the primary universe) has been re-created by Donnie (artifact crash on donnie's home in the tangent universe). Thus he succeeds in closing the time loop of the tangent universe, and saves the primary universe. Now, since engine crashed exactly where he was sleeping in the top floor, donnie dies in the primary universe. Every one dies in the tangent universe becoz that universe terminates

Correction @ 03:45: Mathematically, tangent doesn't mean parallel, it's quite opposite. Also, artifact yekkadi nundo vasthundo explanation ledu annaru. It's wrong. The artifact is the glitch from Parallel universe fallen into real world and it has to be corrected which is the basic plot of the film. The explanation is still half-baked and u need to rewatch it once to get the points u missed or misinterpreted.

The jet-engine is actually from October 30, which travelled back in time through a time corruption, 28 days into the past to OCT 02.
✓This catastrophic event distorts spacetime and creates a Tangent universe
October 30, Tangent universe: After his journey through the TU, which we witness in the movie, the jet-engine breaks off the plane (that his mother and sister are coincidentally on), and from the Tangent universe, Donnie using a wormhole sends it back to the Primary universe (PU), giving it a reason for being. The only object that went back in time from the tangent universe to the primary universe was the jet-engine. In doing so the tangent universe and everything in it is replaced by the primary universe, and time is reset to:
October 2, Primary universe: Jet-engine appears in the Primary Universe (without explanation to everyone but the viewer), Donnie and everyone else are reset and repositioned. Primary-Donnie, back in bed, is killed by the Jet Engine.
