@@tonythetiga4697 Looked like he gave her $80 total and the bill itself was $38.60. Daym even mentioned that he left her a tip that matched his bill - so it was a $40 tip.
UA-camrs and tiktokers with good followings and views should always tip well, those waiters/waitresses bring them their content. Glad Daym is a good man too
Yeah, that was cool of him. Small diners like that- the waitresses don't make much at all. Especially today. Hell - they don't even make much in chain restaurants.
For me, a large menu can be worrying. Some places can pull it off because their menu is made up of variations of base items (like a pizza and sub shop can have a large menu, due to it mostly being made up of types of pizzas and subs that use mostly the same ingredients in different frequencies), others just add and add to their menu and end up not having stuff or doing it poorly.
Diners and select Asian restaurants where every special has its own page are the only places where I feel comfortable with a massive menu. Anywhere else should stick that that 2-page max.
The fact that breakfast has gotten so expensive is crazy. I went to a breakfast spot on Friday with my girlfriend. Nothing fancy. Two pancakes were $8.99. That would buy you around 3 boxes of Great Value pancake mix.
Aye Daym. I've been going to triple A for years and yes they just changed owners about a year or so ago but kept the same name. Definitely ol reliable as far as 24 hr diners are concerned!
When the staff gets your drink asap on arrival that's an instant star and the start of a good tip imo. It's so rare tho. TY for another great vid master of food reviews.
It’s a shame that they messed up the pancakes, especially since they’re so easy to make! My guess is that they fried the pancakes on a part of the griddle that wasn’t hot enough. You need a nice, hot griddle or pan to fry up those pancakes right. If you make yours from scratch or a mix, preheat the griddle while you mix up the batter. Mix the batter just enough so that there’s no dry spots. Lumps are fine; don’t over mix the batter trying to get rid of lumps. Thanks for the great content, Daym!
The customer service was amazing she was very intentive you can tell she also takes care of her customers like she does her family his bless her them potatoes look good af too
I went to one of my worst rated restaurants in Louisville for a diner breakfast had the 3 cheese omelette Toast bacon and chocolate milk. My experience was average waiter left my food up on the counter atmosphere was weird inside and chocolate milk had a weird taste plus cost 5 dollars per glass was extremely high. Even though the food was average I only gave them a chance because of this series and I hope to find a good one!

Honestly, that mandatory tip thing is really a gamble at best. At places that are more upscale that I have worked, I do understand it when the party is large or it's an actual party or something like that and CLEARLY understood before they come in. However, at a place with lower overall bills, your really going to do better just forgetting about that system. Usually, people paying much lower bills will very often tip over that 20% just because they feel such a small percentage is ridiculous for good service. ESPECIALLY regulars! It's just bad business money grab type stuff that are almost always bad ideas and totally counterproductive. Just my opinion tho. 😊
based on his receipt it looks like he didn't pay one so its probably only for late nights or big groups. Cash only though probably hurts their business a lot more that might be only a temporary issue though.
The key to great pancakes is mix them by hand , if you over mix by machine the gluten gets activated and they get chewy . I like them thin and with real maple syrup, but most restaurants can't afford that so it makes sense . NOW, here comes the game changer folks! Treat syrup like a dipping sauce , not a topping . That way it doesn't soak into the pancake and start getting mushy and dry. Try it, you'll see!
Large menu's can be a distraction, if there's variation then that's fine but they gotta be careful with what they have on it so it doesn't look bloated.
If they charging a %20 tip up front, then I expect exceptional service from beginning to end. And I will call them out on it, repeatedly, if necessary.
When a menu is that big the place is almost guaranteed to have awful food. There is no way to have all those ingredients at a good quality and cooks who can do all the items well. Been to so many places with giant menus where you can taste the food is all days or weeks old and microwaved.
yea if they redid the menu to be shorter with their specialties and some easy stuff to make with drinks while keeping it short then that menu will flow much easier. yea been watching too much Bar Rescue and the Gordon Ramsey version of that. The oil in the pancakes might be from the cooking plate they use. Probably a one cook for everything so that oil taste is probably from that.
it should say it mandatory tipping on the menu period. Bold print on every page. Not on the door aint nobody looking at no dam door. That's very salacious!
Daym in my opinion that place definitely deserved 4 stars. I was really impressed I think they do need to update the menu. I don't know how anyone can screw up pancakes. I didn't think that was possible

I know what you mean about the batter though - that means they're probably undercooked on the inside due to the cook using too high of a temperature. (edit: the pancakes I make at home are never undercooked like that. I know better.) This causes the pancake to be cooked to perfection on the outside, while on the inside you might still have some uncooked pancake batter. That happened to me at the worst pancake spot in Western Washington state - Family Pancake House. Man, at that place, they tasted like they were made with Bisquick, and were misshapen. What I mean by that is that they were shaped like a door stop/wedge kind of thing. Thick on one side, thin on the other. They were burnt a little on the outside, and yet when I cut into them, actual uncooked pancake batter started leaking out. Those things gave me the trouble guts later on that day.
