    Your set up position is spot on for the hybrids most people use (3 and 4 hybrid). As an older senior golfer, I carry 18, 21, 25, 30, and 35 degree hybrids. I have found that on the higher lofted hybrids the ball position changes to about one ball forward of a short iron to make the best contact, but the consistency of distance is not as good. Would you consider doing a video on higher lofted hybrids?

    I’ve had a hard time getting good results with a hybrid. I’ve wanted one to fill a gap, just as a distance club with less distance than the 5w but more than a 3i. I don’t have much of an issue hitting a 3i or 3w/5w off the turf. I’ve written them off as a club for me. I think at the very end of the video you hit on what might make it something for me to consider, tempo and just don’t swing it hard.

    • @suryavaraman.4277
      @suryavaraman.4277 3 роки тому +1

      We are used to swinging hard so UDI or or long iron works well as we have fast club head speed. I use a 2 iron UDI off the tee and on long par 4 and 5. Learned to control the club. Can hit 240 off the tee. And 200 on the fairway. I can't hit woods or drivers to safe my life. All irons. All one length. Thinking of trying a hybrid but you're comment made me think otherwise...

    • @achav012
      @achav012 3 роки тому

      @@suryavaraman.4277 yeah at this point it’s hard for me to justify. If I really rip on a 3i I can get 250 out of it. For me and the courses I play I don’t need to get much more than that for a second into the longest par 5s. I ditched my 5w and added a 4th wedge instead and I can either rip on the 3i and hope it runs or try to lay off a 3w hitting a high fade to fill my gap. Having gaps filled at the bottom of my bag is more important to me at this point, again with the courses I play I’m usually within a PW into greens, long-mid irons are rare and usually follow a poor tee shot.

    I'm very confused I watch your video and you say don't hit down into the ball with the hybrid like an iron but then I watched Troy Klongerbo from US Golf TV who says you treat a hybrid like an iron hitting down into the ball which is it?

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow 2 роки тому +2

      Good question, that can be confusing. This can be a bit of a preference from golfer to golfer, but we like to see more of a sweeping blow versus hitting down for more consistency, especially for the average golfer. If you are a little higher skill level and faster swing speed, you may be able to get a little more distance with a slight descending strike and lower ball flight. However, the average golfer gets most benefit from hybrids getting the ball up in the air and down the fairway easier than long irons. Thanks for watching!

    I find the advice in this video a little confusing. Having the ball forward in the stance is clearly correct but I find that (at least for my old rescue 2 hybrid), the shaft angle seems quite clearly designed to be leaned forward slightly with hands in front of the head. To get the hands level or behind the club head, you'd need to tilt it back, causing the bottom edge to catch the ball first.

    I recently picked up a set of Tour Edge E522 hybrid irons, very similar to Cleveland Halo Launchers, etc. I'm a very "experienced" golfer and so far seem to hit these pretty nicely. Any additional tips on hitting/using these all hybrid sets? I haven't seen anyone doing videos on these. I think they give a definite advantage for the average senior player.

      @@USGOLFTVshow that was an excellent video. I have been hitting these "hybrid Irons" with ball in middle or slightly forward. Because they have move weight toward the rear of the head, a slightly sweeping motion seems to work better for me then hitting down. They are so easy to hit and go high and stop quickly.

    Great video. I found it helpful. However, I am somewhat inconsistent with my hybrid (4H). Sometimes, solid contact, but sometimes, I “top” the ball. I am thinking that perhaps its the ball placement (not sufficiently forward when I top it). Would love some advice! Thanks.

      @USGOLFTVshow 4 роки тому +2

      Prashanth Jayachandran good question, the first place to start is to notice where your weight is at impact. Many times topping the ball is because we keep our weight on our back foot. Try getting more through the ball...let us know if that helps. 👊

      That is a helpful tip to make better contact; however, there are two other tendencies that can occur out of the rough; 1) as a right hander, it frequently goes to the left and 2) sometimes I hit under the ball - a frustrating pop fly.

      Joe RicciardI all hybrids should be basically placed in the same spot no matter the loft as they are all designed to sweep the ball unlike some irons that are meant for more of a descending strike...hope that helps. 👊

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow 2 роки тому

      This can be solid advice based on swing speed. We have found you need at least 90 mph of clubhead speed for the 3wood to work. For many golfers the 5wd or a low lofted hybrid is best. Great question. 👊

    I know the problem is between my ears but I've yet to learn to hit a hybrid, 3w, or 5w. I might hit 1 out of 5 decent but most are topped, off the toe, off the heel, fat... So when playing, I have nothing between my driver and 4 iron. I keep hearing hybrids are easier to hit than long irons. I don't get it.

    Todd, Here is a topic where I totally disagree with you (and so do almost all leading golf coaches and instructors). A hybrid is designed and intended to be hit like an iron, which means that you DO have to hit down on the ball with your hybrid clubs! Maybe not as dramatically down as you would with a short iron or wedge, but you DEFINITELY have to hit down at least slightly on the ball with a hybrid.

    • @joe190375
      @joe190375 4 роки тому

      I thought so too, but I when I went to to the range to hit my new hybrid's I noticed I got better contact and ball flight with the sweeping motion. Maybe it's a mix of both? Some down and some sweep?

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow 4 роки тому

      Good question, you have to consider the design of the clubhead and how it interacts with the ground. The best example is watching any tour professional, they do not take divots with their hybrids...why, it is more of a sweeping motion...
