The main reason I keep coming back to trying the new Pixels every year is that the software, in my opinion, is just cleaner than OneUI or any of the other versions. I know I can make the others look a bit like Pixels but I don't want to and you can't get away from the settings menus etc still being 'skinned'. And the cameras are still excellent pretty much across the board for photos. It just 'feels' cleaner and less cluttered.

Why would clean UI be the deciding factor between phones? You'll only really see the phone's UI in settings and preinstalled apps. It seems unsubstantial compared to other aspects of the phone since most phone usage are on third-party apps that don't align with the phone UI.

The Pixel experience is the main reason I have stuck with a Pixel. From the camera app to everything else. I can't live without call screening. Probably my most used feature on my phone. I don't care about any of the Ai stuff. If I could get a call screening experience on another phone I could probably make that work. The thing I love the most about pixel that's unique is the non duplicate apps on android. One of each one, not another brand forcing theirs too. No 2x of the same apps like calenders, app stores, messages, notes, photos etc and less storage taken up by the operating system.

I am with a lot of the comments I have already seen here. I have been using the pixel line for ages, my mother uses a pixel phone and she is 70 ffs. Currently using the p7p. I have been looking at austins favorite phone for the next one but the camera sucks in every comparison to the pixel line. The number one thing that means I will not be switching is call screening. Google does it right, I used to get 5+ spam calls and texts -per day- and now I have none. Zero. My phone doesn't even notify me unless I look at the log. It has saved my sanity, it has saved my job, it is simply the best thing ever to be put on a phone.

I am on my 2nd Pixel going from the 6a to the 8 Pro and I have no complaints when it comes to day-to-day tasks. I use my 8 Pro to film in 4K and sometimes have it edit and render 4K video with no issues. I do not play a lot of games on it and not because of this idea that Pixels don't have the power to do so, but because I am not really into mobile gaming. Being a step behind doesn't make a phone bad and not everything has to be about power and meaningless Geekbench scoores. It is stranger to me that some will base their opinion on a device purely on that without having used the device first.
As for Samsung, they come across as a company who would prefer to be like Apple, independent of any other company with proprietary software, but haven't the guts to do so without the Android OS. Their phones seem to come preinstalled with 2 of everything from both Google and Samsung, making the device feel cluttered and wasting storage. However, if Pixel was not available to me, then yes, I would buy a Samsung... NOT! I would pick an iPhone or a Sony Xperia anyday.

      @alejandroelcid Місяць тому +1

I don't understand the criticism here. I have seen more reviews and comparisons where the Pixel is unfairly said to be underpowered and with poor batter life. I tried the 6a as my first Pixel, my main issue was the storage and screen size, but apart from that I enjoyed it. I upgraded to the Pixel 8 Pro and I have zero complaints, it feels like it integrates easier with my laptop compared to Samsung, and let's not talk about iPhones. I don't feel like Google is necessarily competing with everyone more than making a functioning device, with a clean UI, that easily operates within their software ecosystem.
I disagree with their take, Pixels really are a better value; especially when on sale, they are a steal.

The Camera draws me to pixels.
The colours are REALISTIC and it does not exaggerate the colours and brightness of the picture. Samsung's pictures are way too over processed and I'm an android user so I've been using pixel since pixel 1.
And the lack of features don't matter to me since I switch my phone every 3 years so it always feels brand new and feature loaded.

Oh, if I was Google, I would’ve doubled down on that. I would’ve told Samsung to go make their own operating system and have a good day. Samsung can’t do that. Apple in Google would’ve crushed them. They don’t have the same pull as Google. They don’t have the same pull as Apple where they could make their own App Store connecting OS devices, etc. if I was Google, I would be the entire house that if Samsung went independent in their OS they would’ve failed in two years. Samsung definitely needs android more than Google needs Samsung.
Google should not make the pixel a budget phone. They already have a budget phone. Yes it’s crept up in price, but they already have it. It’s really nothing that they can do until they hunt other themselves from Samsung. Unfortunately people don’t know how to explore phones most consumers so they’re going to stay with what they know when I worked in the cell phone store. It was very hard for me to get anybody to get off Samsung, regardless of the price because they only knew Samsung And that’s all they wanted it the same way it was with cases. Cases got thinner but tougher, but all everybody wanted. It was the giant bulbs OtterBox.

Pixel phones gives you proper useful software update monthly.
Let me explain : when i think the battery back up is low after few updates it fix that . If i found a bug it will fix after updates.
The think is pixel phones are better example for Android optimization. Even though Tensor is below average. when we use android optimized apps it runs buttery smooth. Even s23ultra can't keep up with (I tested s23 ultra). That shows they runs perfectly with below average processor.

The premium software experience on Pixel really can't be overemphasized: it's clean, easy to use and cool. Google Pixels have never been powerhouses. The software has been their main selling point. And although there are some AI features that transverse to the highend Samsung phones, there are some that don't- and there's also the question of how well those features work well on Samsung verses on the Pixels (Magic Eraser is a perfect example. I hate Samsung Bixby, and those other apps they make). Also, the Samsung budget phones don't have all those useful AI features: you can only access them on the highend phones, which are unquestionably MORE EXPENSIVE than Pixels.
I'm glad I get to use Magic Eraser and Editor without having to be a Google 1 subscriber.
Finally, the Pixel 9 series aren't out yet, and you're criticising then as though you've been using the phones for years. 😂😂😮

For starters, it would fully replace the Google Assistant and according to Google become content aware on Android. It would essentially be more useful on Android than on iPhone. (10:26)

As a pixel user, The problem with pixels that no one talks about is that they are only for US and a small minority of countries. A lot of the features that are available for pixels are not available in the majority of countries Even basic features are missing. For example in most of the world Pixels do not support 5g networks. Google is actively blocking 5g, if the sim card is not from a company that is recognized by google then, the phone tells to the network that is only 4g capable. Therefore when you are traveling you cannot use local sim cards for 5g connectivity, that makes the pixel not a good phone for traveling. Another Example is that in some countries you cannot dial special numbers, Dialing special numbers connects you to emergency services.

For Example the photos of the iPhone 15s are way to warm this year or Oneplus is always greenish. But I hate the battery in former devices so I hope the Pixel 9 will do a better job.

I've been a Nexus and Pixel user since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus back in the 2010's and as someone that is on a fixed budget since a stroke I had, the Nexus/Pixel lines have been my go-to for affordable phones that have a clean, easy to use no nonsense interface. Yet since the price of the Pixel line has steadily gone up over the years, I can no longer afford to upgrade. I have been rocking a Pixel 3aXL since it was new, and nothing about the Pixels that have been released since have really blown my skirt up and made me want to upgrade if i could afford it.. They sure look pretty and have better specs, but bottom line I just need my phone to do 3 things... Make and receive phone calls and texts, take decent photos, and play time wasting games like PoGO. I will eventually upgrade, but I'm going to have to get one secondhand or refurbished.

I have been using the Pixel since the launch after being on Samsung for a while. I think the Pixel 8 Pro is the last I will be doing. It had a LOT of great features and such that worked great with all of their own products. The hardware was great.
But I am with you on this, they need to be cheaper, because if not, my next phone will be a Samsung (insert number here) Ultra. But I will just hold onto the 8 Pro for a while. Maybe the Pixel 10 Pro will do the thing. If not, then it's time for the switch back to Samsung.

Can't charge flagship prices with inferior hardware. If you aren't going to use a snapdragon chip you just can't charge $1200 for the new pro xl. How do I justify that when the OnePlus 12 has a superior chip and waaaay faster charging for basically half the price? They need to be playing in the $500-$800 range. At $1200 they are competing against the S24 Ultra, OnePlus Open, and Iphone 15 pro Max. Who's choosing the pixel over any of those with the tensor chip? Especially when there will most likely be a pixel 9A with the same exact chip that will be on sale for $350 in less than a year.

I can't really agree with the takes. In reviews and comparisons I often see Pixel phones unfairly criticized with things like, comparing bench scores, it heats up, it has a poor batter life, they don't run all games well, etc. I personally went from an iPhone to a Samsung and now a Pixel. The reason I consider Pixel phones as contenders to other brands is that they simply work. Yes, their UI is cleaner as they already come with Google's own apps, but most importantly Google is in the business of software. Pixel phones are quintessentially devices that allow for an easier access to the wide array of apps and services from Google.
If you think about it, by default the phone already uses Chrome (Google), it has UA-cam (Google), it has Gmail (Google), it comes with Google Assistant (Google), you also get Google Drive (Google), you essentially have access to most of what Google has to offer from the moment you setup your phone. When it comes to AI not even Samsung integrates it as seamlessly as Google does. While Pixel phones this past year have gone up in price they are still cheaper and are still a better value; when on sale they are a steal.
In terms of chipset, the Tensor chip is more than functional and as someone who is not techy I have not noticed any differences in performance compared to the Snapdragon chips. Many of the criticisms I find are not accurate. After you first setup the phone at a software level it adapts to your use so it does heat up and consume battery but after a few days it is no longer an issue. In terms of games most people aren't trying to play console games on their phones. Benchmarks also don't tell the full picture, again I have yet to experience any performance issues.
I had a Samsung from which I went to the Pixel 6a. After using that phone I found Pixel phones to be compelling which is why I upgraded to the Pixel 8 Pro. I am not saying that I will only use Pixel phones from now on but for now I will stick with the 8 Pro for as long as it lasts, which Google promised will be for 7 years so let's go with that.

There's been several times when an update has caused a major glitch. (Had that half screen disappear and lock up phone when using UA-cam and a glitch that turned my screen lime green because night light was on and I was watching UA-cam.)
At least my 7 doesn't feel like its slowing down so I'll continue using it once my contract is done.

I think the Pixel’s main point is having the latest Android updates for years and being THE Android phone. But to your point with Samsung, I kinda wish they’d upgrade the chip a bit since it’s in house (more RAM and storage cause that should be pretty easy to add compared to a faster chip or such). My biggest annoyance with Exynos processors is that they’re just worse in every way than Qualcomm chips, when they should at least toss in something to make them debatably better (more cores ig, but not optimized that well).

Isn't it really all that has been happening with phones period? They(all brands) have always been grasping at straws and probably always will be. Look at all the times that they use numbers like screen resolution just to act like they're better even though it will affect battery life. Look at design choices doing these curved edges and bezel-less phones that are easier to damage. How many people actually care about that?

This whole video, without doing so explicitly, makes the argument why Google made a mistake when it shifted from the Nexus line to the Pixels. The Nexus was that mid-range and mid-priced product line that allowed Google to experiment and differentiate itself in the market. Yes, the Nexus phones were made by existing manufacturers, but Google, if it was intent on manufacturing phones itself, could have shifted into the manufacturing space while keeping the Nexus idea alive.

For me it's the cameras. I know, this is kinda subjective: Some phones take photos with with more sharpness, others might have a cooler or a warmer look to them...all of those being things that one person might like, the next one doesn't. And for my taste "regular" Pixel photos (standard mode, no editing) are pretty much perfect. I admit that this is not an objective argument that convince someone to buy their phones though. Plus with the price increase and the apparent pre-order bonuses (according to the leaks), it's pretty hard to justify what they're currently doing. Back then I bought my Pixel 6 for 650$ and got a pair of 200$ Bose headphones on top. If I wanted to get the equivalent version of that phone in 2024, so the regular Pixel 9, I'll have to pay 900$ and don't get any hardware bonus. Considering I sold those headphones, I effectively paid 450$ for my phone. Which means now, three years later, I am quite literally paying double the price - for the same phone.

It's easily the most beautiful Android phone made and nothing else comes close. It feels as premium as an iPhone too. HOWEVER, I'm waiting for the 10 hoping the Tensor will be replaced. It's the achilles heel of this fantastic phone. The Google ecosystem is sooooooooooo good too. Replace the Tensor and I think Pixel phones will get much more market share.
