    LECTURE NOTES:
    --------------1st movt: allegro---------------
    1. no dynamics instructions for this movement, and only 2 for the next: 2 pianissimo
    2. @3:56 the beautiful juxtaposition of quavers & triplets
    3. @4:30 development starts in Dm, then Am, Em, Bm in a sequence of 1/5.
    4. @4:53 chamber music-like/orchestral with the knocking quavers in the bass
    --------------2nd movt: menuetto------------
    5. @5:47 Op.20 has the same theme in a different key. In it, it provokes the image of a village band with the double bass, cello and viola playing accompaniment
    6. @8:08 an episode scored for perhaps woodwinds
    7. @11:25 a second episode in C major: trumpets, horns & timpani
    8. @11:42 the strings
    9. @12:07 first of the only 2 times Beethoven wrote pianissimo

Opus 49 No 2 is Beethoven’s easiest keyboard piece by some distance both technically and musically*; if you cannot manage this ‘Sonate facile’ then you can’t play anything by Beethoven.
      * Apart from some juvenile trivia.
