Tascam has thrown its hat into the high-end digital mixer ring, with the new Tascam Sonicview product line. This new offering looks incredible for those who can afford the heavy price tags, and I’m not one of them. However I wanted to check out the Sonicview 16XP, and share this Tascam next generation unit’s information in a simple way with anyone interested.

Is it just me or would it make more sense to have more flexibility on tascams mixers regarding the pairing of mono tracks into stereo tracks? Like how the uad console software works for example on the software side or how behringer or even Roland’s mx1 handles merging tracks on the hardware side where it just disables the even numbered fader for making a mono pair into a stereo track, controlled by 1 fader.

I watched your video on the Tascam 16 XP! I’m a complainer! Take out the screens and the junk! Build the device digital/analog and keep it old school! Build it to last! This new fangled screens don’t last! And make it simple!
All of the multitrack recorder/mixers on the market are terribly inadequate. Honestly, they force the artist to struggle with their junk equipment to achieve the outcome that they need, and they are forced to settle for something less. The XP is exactly that! I’m watching you explain all the different convoluted things the artist must do to achieve something!
I need 32 mono inputs assignable to every group and 48 recording tracks to an onboard SD Card recorder. This can easily be achieved in the space in the Tascam 16 XP.
I need full Timecode generator capabilities for every flavor. I need 6 insert chains. I need Balanced Mic/Line/Instrument on all 32 Ins with high and lo pass filters. I need 2 main outs, and 16 or 8 subgroups outs! I need built in FX assignable to be used independently routed to what ever track I want thru 6 Aux buses. I need Balance, Trim, compression, sweep mid EQ pot, and phantom power independently assignable on each input. I need LED VUs, and input signal indicators on every fader with LED and analog Meters at the output main bus. It must look awesome!
Finally, it must be priced between $1,300 and $2,000 dollars. The XP JUNKER is $5,000 dollars! All of this is doable if they take out the junk and install all of what’s needed! Millions would be sold, tremendous profit would be made at this price point. And every artist wildest mixing dreams could be achieved and the artist would love whatever company comes to market with it!
You did a great job on the video! Interestingly, your explanations proved the tediousness and convoluted thinking of the Tascam 16 XP and its complexity.

Does xp16 come with instrumental library that you can load like yamaha console has?
Just when I though tascam model 12 would be my best option , tascam comes and mess all my thoughts with this new product 🤑🤯
consider that this is approximately 10x the cost of the model 12.
how is the recording aspect of this unit? Is it truly a stand-alone unit? Or is it best to connect to a computer for that?

What about DAW control? I'm a Dm4800 that is charme doing this. Is DAW control enabled in Sonicview series?

@PowercoatMusic iam a yamaha o1v96i user. The one thing that bugs me at the moment iam limited to control only 16 daw tracks on my remote layer. My old control surface (Project mix io by maudio)had a page function that let me control an infinite amount of tracks (1to 9,10 to 18 etc.)

main differences compared to the Allen & Heath SQ5 ??
this thing is running all FPGA processing at 54 bit floating point, 96k. The sound will be analog and big compared to other digital emulations. FPGA is superior to linear dsp for certain processing/ analog emulation. The combination of the two will be hard to beat. This thing competes well above it price point.
You failed to mention that the SB-16B is a digital STAGEBOX featuring Dante audio networking. An important distinction as otherwise no one will know what it is for.

This board makes more sense over the Allen & Heath high end models. Where can we find one of these to put our hands on up-close in the Dallas/Ft.Worth market?
why? A&H has fantatsic UI effect AND support for 3rd party plugins. I think this is just a mixer and you are locked into their effects.

@@nikolaya2040 who has proof? Tascam does. If they had support for 3rd party plugins like Waves surely they would tell us? The fact they haven't means it's very likely they have no builtin support like A&H.
