Exactly. The experience of opening a box is fleeting. I'd rather keep my $200 extra dollars, buy the Cerave, and end up with the same degree of sun protection on my face.
@@minigiant8998 Haha, I wish I had a solution for Apple prices, as I love their products! 🥲 Each year we get fewer accessories with the new iPhones, but I keep going back for more!
I haven't seen you do a video comparing 2 products before....but really liked it! Very informative! Keep them coming please! Have you done a video discussing the different components of skin care products and why one component is more desirable than another? For instance retinol vs. peptides vs vitamin C??? Thanks!
Agreed! Definitely want more! Also, as a hair replacement specialist/ genius, I’d wager you could lend true insight into the efficacy of these new hair growth products online, maybe the top 5 or something: Nutrafol, Vegamour, maybe even Minoxidil, etc. What exactly do they do, from a scientific/ medical POV, if anything? Pro’s/ cons? Anyway, loved this! Keep ‘em coming!
I've used the CereVe product for 3 years. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist and it works well and is the ONLY facial sunscreen that does not break my face out and I have tried many!
Thanks for the heads up. I am going to try this CeraVe product. I’ve had good luck with their cleansers plus various Acne fighting products from LRP. Same issues for me: SPF facial lotion that clogs my pores. Also, I have recently tried mineral sunscreens, both tinted and non tinted, with horrible chemical smells and white cast. These were not cosmetically pleasing and a poor color match. It might be time for me to try the advanced sun filter products from Europe and Korea💁🏻♂️😎‼️
I used to work for Sisley - their sunscreen is actually more expensive at $342 !! When I asked how I should sell this to clients, I was told that "it protects enough not to burn, but doesn't protect so much that you want get that golden glow" 😆 would love to see you do a video including that product it's insane!
@@Ariadne76-k3d yes exactly!!! Then they sold a separate product which was about $500 for blue light protection which they’d try to say you had to wear with the $342 sunscreen 😂
I love that you reviewed them side by side in such depth, especially the price per application. That’s something I try to work out when trying to determine if something is worth it or not, very helpful and the idea that most people wouldn’t even get their moneys worth because we usually don’t even wear enough sunscreen is mind blowing.
Wait till you find sisley they have a $345 sunscreen. Then add 500$ for the blue light thing. The LaPrarie one is expensive for the quality of ingredients such as ginseng
Thank you for comparing sunscreens.💜Please let your followers know that a baseball cap isn’t effective sun protection. A good hat should have 100+ SPF protection and the brim should be 4-5 inches. I had a close call with malignant melanoma(two surgeries within a week) and take sun protection seriously. 😬
My best friend has been having excision after excision of suspicious cells and moles…we both did the sun goddess tanning bed, sun chasing life of the 90’s early 2000’s and its caused so many people I know such bad skin damage. I haven’t had any goes of it myself but seeing my bff go through it has really brought me down to earth and helped humble me and now I use spf daily. I personally use the cerave cream dr. Gary shows here and also the pm cream that pairs with this am cream. My skin is very dry and cerave keeps my skin supple and soft as long as I use it! Eucerin is a good one too
I prefer Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel to the Cerave. Skin Aqua is $11-14 for 3.88 oz. It's really a fluid, not a gel, super spreadable. Dries very quickly and completely. Matte finish. They have some others that are more dewy. The Cerave pilled up with other products sometimes. Starts white with an alcohol smell, but as soon as you start rubbing it in, it's clear and the smell goes away. In fact with the new formula, I don't even remember an alcohol smell to start with, but I might just be used to it at this point. It's more moisturizing than their prior almost-watery formula while still being matte.
I feel like this niche of content is something I’d like to see more of from you, taking good care of your skin will take your work done to the next level.
What a great video, Dr. Gary! I’ve been using that very same CeraVe sunscreen that you were comparing, as well as a sunscreen from Eucerin. Both have worked just fine for me, and I have older, sensitive skin. I really enjoy this comparison type of video and hope you continue to do more. So interesting to watch you apply it to your own skin and give your personal opinion. Thank you!
Oh thank goodness, I just bought the Cera-Ve sunscreen yesterday, haha. I am doing phototherapy for my psoriasis but want my face to be protected because I don't need any UVB exposure there. My skin has been super unhappy with me putting sunscreen on it 3x a week so I am hoping the Cera-Ve will be less irritating than the brand I was using prior.
Thanks Doc. But the downside is that the Cerave causes a white caste on darker skin tones. I have seen reviews that say the Cerave Ultralight lotion SPF 30 works well for darker skins tones.
I love CeraVe and glop it on like cake frosting. Sunscreens need to be affordable, if you’re parceling it out one molecule at a time it’s not doing it’s job.
I worked in skin care several years. You should really wear sunscreen everyday. When out in sun and sweating I apply at least twice a say. Hope you enjoyed your trip.
Good idea to compare them. To me the LaPrairie is marketing a product targeting people who think only expensive is best.I have used different CeraVe products for some time now and have always felt they worked well. Plus fragrances have the tendency to cause me to sneeze and become congested. The same way most of the so called "essential oils" do.
There's sooo many sunscreen types! I've been using the elf who glow for my face. Had the Supergoop stick but it gave me breakouts which is rare for me. I've been wanting to try some of the Korean stick SPFs
I wish sunscreen brands would stop selling sunscreen in these 1.7 ounce containers, then selling them for 40 bucks or more. It’s impossible to use as much as you need to, plus reapplications throughout the day, for that size and price. Edit: my point exactly! Thank you for addressing this. I was referring more to Elta MD and supergoop, but this product is outrageously priced. One last thing! It’s good to use the weather app for iOS to check the UV index throughout the day.
I don't like that version of the CeraVe sunscreen. In my opinion, it feels too heavy on my face. I use the ultra-light moisturizing lotion by CeraVe, I think it feels so much better.
I use CeraVe moisturizer sunscreen & like it a lot. It goes on easy, absorbs quickly & the price is right. I, too, don’t like any scents. I couldn’t afford the La Prairie even if it was fabulous.
I agree with Dr Gary, I don't like super fragrant producs on my face, I also have eczema and my face is the favorite part for the eczema, I keep it controlled most of the time and part of that is using products that protect me from the sun. I also avoid sun exposure, maybe more than the recommended hours haha, so I don't have freckles or any tan at all, oh and no issues with wrinkles or comedones. Despite of barely going outside home for just my doctor appointment and few errands during the whole quarantine period in my country, approx 3y, I don't have vitamin D deficiency nor it impacted my depression. So use your sunblock or sunscreen (I use FPS 50) even if the day is grey, cloudy and rainy. Just use it!!
I use the La-Roche Posay ANTHELIOS and it goes for about 15 Euros, 50 LSF and it works so well. I just use two pumps and it is out of the bottle. I would use the CERAVE one as well, but I like that mine is good for sensitive and oily skin. I would not buy the one for more than 200 dollars.
I wonder how much stock is moved when it is so expensive, thereby perhaps the stock your buying is older. Also at that price perhaps a tendency to apply sparsely and not achieve a good coverage.
As we live in a super sunny place: Tel Aviv Israel, we prefer the LA ROCHE-POSAY sunscreens,. La Roche-Posay have an amazing collection of sunscreens, SPF50 for children too (great for ppl w sensitive skin), and it has an amazing sunscreen spray for the face (I wouldn't trust only it, but everyone liked it in our vacation in Greece this month). Cerave is nice, but La Roche-Posay is better and it has a larger sunscreen collection here. Important: no sunscreen is a 100% protection, it is much better to wear a hat and long clothes/ long swimsuits in addition to the sunscreen to the exposed areas (in the face? both hat + sunscreen) , and even better: not to be exposed to the sun at high radiation hours.
Thank you Dr Gary this video was awesome! I'm obsessed with SPF's and have tried so many different ones. Unfortunately I also experienced some stinging with the CeraVe sunscreen. Haven't tried La Prairie but currently I love La Roche, SVR and Eucerin sunscreens x

And Sunscreens are not 100%, I noticed I get a light tan when outside during sunny days. I also notice that spf 100 sunscreens are better at protecting me against sunburn in the hot summer weather.
First of all, La Prairie sunscreen isn't the world's most expensive sunscreen, it's just on par with every other lux skincare. And as for lux skincare, it always comes down to the experience the products provide and how fast you see results from using them. Most people don't care about the experience and are ok with slow results, if you just wanna slap it on and go, that's fine. But some people like myself do enjoy a good skincare experience, which includes the products' texture, feel, and fragrance on top of fast yet safe noticeable results. It's like a ritual that I look forward to every day and help me maintain a good skincare routine that I never would want to skip no matter what. Even though I'm a man, I love fragrance in my skincare. I understand that people think cheap ones are good enough, but it seems a lot of people also miss the point of lux skincare, and are dissing those for no reason. Hello. Thank you for sharing this video. I have been using La Prairie skincare for quite awhile. I appreciate your honest review of one of their products. Your review was informative. Again, thank you.
Cerave should have been the winner for packaging -- all of the excessive packaging surrounding La Prairie is wasteful. The planet doesn't need more waste!
I would give CeraVe the win on packaging, too! That garage-sized box that LaPrairie is hiding in is just plain pretentious!

Hello. Thank you for sharing this video. I have been using La Prairie skincare for quite awhile. I appreciate your honest review of one of their products. Your review was informative. Again, thank you.
Which is yr favourite product from la prare?
WAY better comparison than these influences gurus
Good review, but trying to compare the cost of a product from fluid ounces or ml to pounds is incorrect. Compare them per fluid ounce or 100ml.
236 why?!? Does it do your laundry?
I use cerave but use way more than you put on . I don't want any sun after all I spend at the surgeon's office.
Cerave should have been the winner for packaging -- all of the excessive packaging surrounding La Prairie is wasteful. The planet doesn't need more waste!
Can you please rate Korean sunscreens? Thank you!!
In Germany the cheapest sun protection products usually always win.
Thank you! Dr. Gary
GARY I LOVE YOU
