Amazing video! Obviously, disassembly is different on newer LW type differential where axles are pressed in instead of bolted on, but do you know if the general procedure for replacing clutches and plates the same?
I've never had a newer BMW diff opened up, so I can't say how similar they are. Though, if it's a clutch type mechanical diff, then it stands to reason that it would be similar in concept.
To my knowledge, they won't get so bad the car won't move, but they will get to a point where the diff allows enough slip that it's essentially an open diff.
While I'm sure some folks would tell you yes, I did not and have run quite a few track days since this job and it's all good. Most of the hardware for the diff is pretty large and robust, jsut make sure that everything is good and tight.
