The average child in the west is fine. Only 1 in 6 American children are overweight. Most US kids are involved in some type of activity -- whether sports, arts, hobbies, martial arts, etc. Being active as a pre-teen isn't the exception, it's the rule. Yes, the 1 in 6 is well up from the 2000s or 1980s, due to a number of factors. These kids likely aren't on any special diets and I doubt she is off social media and he doesn't play video games -- they are simply so young and active they can burn even junk food off. Yes, ballroom has advantages over other activities -- it's competitive, has a social aspect, you have a partner, it develops grace, musical rhythm, one of the few sports you get to do with the opposite gender, etc. It also has disadvantages -- like finding a male partner, costs, travel, insane parents, it's a highly subjectively judged sport, etc.
