    As a cosmetologist, crocheter, and curly girl I think this is a great video! Definitely a big part of caring for your hair is testing products out and seeing what works bc everyone has different body chemistry. Alcohol in products can be drying but that doesn’t mean they won’t work for your hair. Also, it really helps to clarify your hair at least once a week or once every two. It helps to get all the product buildup off your hair. Thank you for talking about it ❤

    I like this more casual approach, feels like we're sitting down to have a chat. I look forward to more of this series, Leigh.

    I love crocheting blankets best. I also have chronic pain and crochet helps but I get tired. I also quilt but cannot do that for long either. But I do what I can and enjoy the process.

    I’m an Aussie in Victoria. I’d love you to discuss yarn sources for Australia - your favourites stores or online and why, others you might know of, favourite yarns to work with and why.

      I’d also love to know! I worry that the people who get the real nice stuff are mainly buying it online. I’d much rather see the colours in person first, but it’s hard to experiment when nicer stuff can be so pricey - I’ve been mostly getting yarn just at spotlight, occasionally lincraft if I’m around one :’)

    I would love to just crochet with you like this and have you chat on about anything! It helped me focus on my own project somehow. I would love to be able to casually crochet with someone and talk about whatever!

    My hair is as straight as James Bond, but since I'm fascinated by curly hair, it was nice to hear you talk about your hair routine.
    I think a chatty video like this is nice, it helps us connect to you

    I love the black scrunchy. If you are ever in a spot where your hair is greasy and you just can't get it un-greasy, you can also use blue Dawn dish soap. It's gentle enough to use on animals and it cuts grease.. You may not want to use it all the time, but in a situation like you were in, it's a quick, easy and inexpensive fix. As for curly hair, I could probably have curly hair if I cared to do anything with it. I struggle with my mental health and most of the time just don't want to deal with much of anything, including my hair..

    Fellow curly girl here 👋🏽 Finding products that work is a real trial and error process. You find one that's pretty much perfect, and they discontinue the product! These days, I stick to Argan oil applied to wet (not dripping) hair on the ends and some outer bits, wrap it while I faff, then apply Hollywood Beauty Smoothing Hair Cream throughout, wrap it again and let it absorb. Then finally, I scrunch and let the curls fall where they may and leave it dry naturally. I haven't used a hairbrush in years. My 'hairbrush' is a water spray and my fingers, which is my daily routine, applying a little more smoothing cream and finishing off with some Palmers leave-in conditioner spray. I learned not to argue with my curls many years ago. There is no styling them, they will not be told, therefore I apply my products and leave them to it 😂

    As someone who grew tired with long frizzy hair and ended up doing a diy wolfcut for the first time a few months ago, I discovered I have wavy hair! I don't have tight curls but it is at least wavy so thats a start! You gave me so many good starting points for making the waves more prominent, thank you for all the tips

      I thought I had pin-straight hair until I was in my early 30's! I went on my honeymoon in the Caribbean and was in real humidity for the first time in my life. Bam - wavy hair! I was amazed.

    I love hearing others hair care routines, especially for curly hair as there are a lot of curly hair variations and what can work for some might work for others.
    I have so many problems with my own curly haircare routine cause brushing my thick curly hair can take me awhile and it tires me out but if I brush it while its dry, it frizzes but in order to not have it frizz, I just need to get my hair wet but I dont like getting it wet since I have to wet it in the shower and waste water doing so.

    First of all, I loved this vlog you did! I’m a huge fan of you and I loved this relatable video ❤️
    Second, why are you not my neighbor? I need this to happen. I need your vibe in my life! You are so my kind of people.
    Third, I’m not a fan of strictly curls at all, but your video had me wondering if it’s because I live in a high humidity area. It’s so sticky to me.
    Forth, I absolutely need to adopt your “No more than 3 products at a time rule.” I need that discipline after I buy a product I don’t love.
    Thanks for taking the time to share with us! You are always a source of inspiration for me in crochet and so much more ❤

    My hair is super fine and at the grand old age of 43 I’m embracing that I actually have wavy/curly hair. So many years of straightening and frizz, and it’s actually looking much better now I’m going the curl route.
    I’ll keep an eye out for some of the products you’ve suggested, I’m still trying to find my perfect combo. X

      I found the same. I used to straighten my hair a lot more when I was younger and it certainly didn't help with the frizz.

    My hair is very fine, but dry and wavy. So I have a hard time finding products that work because many either weigh my fine hair down too much or dry out my hair further. Dove love your waves is the best shampoo/conditioner I've found, hands down. I'm interested to try the frizz ease you mentioned.

    You did the same as me and took bits and pieces of the curly girl method. The cotton shirt plop is part of it. Some alcohols are necessary in the formula. I use Maui Hibiscus water conditioner and Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer after shower while deep and as a curl refresher between washes. Still haven't figured out a styling product for the last product and frizz with lack of definition is my problem.

    • @justanother2433

      One thing I‘ve heard help with frizz is the cwc method. Basically you apply conditioner before washing your hair regularly. (Just the scalp like one should.) Then you continue your regular routine with conditioner and any leave ins. The first conditioner is supposed to help your hair to not dry out and you can use your regular conditioner or just any inexpensive alternative.

      Not all alcohols are drying. In fact some are moisturizing. Cetyl, cetearyl, stearyl, and lauryl are considered fatty alcohols and are fine.

    My favorite scrunchie is (around the hair tie) - a round of sc then 3 tech in each stitch around - just based on the frilliness I want. I use juicy couture velvet and bernat velvet the most, but the bernat is thinner. I’ve also used Bohemia velvet from Hobbi but it’s thin, too. LOVED THIS VIDEO, Leigh. Thank you so very much for sharing with us! Love from Ohio ☺️🫶🏻🧶 ~ Lisa oh! 5 or 5.5 mm hook. Sorry 🤪

    i have curly hair, i'm not sure on the type, but for my curl routine i use suave sun-ripened strawberry shampoo and usually it's conditioner, but when i picked up more they didn't have that scent they had either ocean breeze or hydrating and i chose hydrating cuz it was white and lightly scented, and then when i get out of the shower i will dry my body and let my hair dry, my hair is thick as well so it takes a long time to dry, then i will take my towel and then wrap it around my short hair and rub it til it's halfish dry and then i'll brush it but i don't brush it downwards, i'll brush it upwards like from the roots and then brush it upwards so that it curls and adds volume and not make my hair flat and then i use not my mother's kinky curl cream to hold the curls and make it not frizzy and that's all i use, i used to use moose, but i didn't like how it made my hair straw like and stiff, with the curl cream that i use it makes my hair look more like hair and just natural and this usually only takes me about 2 minutes or so to style my hair cuz my hair is nape of my neck short, when about 9 years ago it was down to just above my bottom length and it would usually take me about 30 mins. to style my hair, i do miss braiding my hair into pigtails and other things, but i do not miss it taking forever to style it, i like it being 2-5 minutes to style it just makes it easier on me and since i'm hotblooded it helps having short hair even tho it's thick it's less heat for me 😉 also my limit for my hair products is no more than $10 and suave stuff is about $2 and it just works for me idc that it's cheap, as long as it cleans my hair i'm fine with it, and my curl cream is about $5 and my brush was about $7 so that works well with my budget.

    14:25 Wait, aren't you litterally doing the curly girl method? The entire add plenty of moisture, add cream and mouse when dripping went, plomp it on top of your head in a cotton t-shirt shennanigan, all of that is textbook curly girl method and what is recommended on every guide with that name...

    • @SkeinSpider
      @SkeinSpider  3 місяці тому

      Yeah, there's definitely some elements that are the same but from what I remember the curly girl method had more few more steps. Though it's entirely possible I've got it confused with something else, it's been a long time since I first watched/read about different specific curly hair methods.

    • @ericathefae
      @ericathefae 3 місяці тому

      @@SkeinSpider To be honest, there probably is many versions - I think what I mentioned is just common for many of them, but not necessarilly all of it. I was just so confused when you said you didn't use that method at all (but in hindsight, you probably ment "I'm not following all of that" rather than "my method is completely different").
      PS. Sorry if my original post came across a bit sharp - it certainly feels that way when I reread it. It wasn't intentional.
