When I was a kid, all the town's beaches allowed surfing, including the Army Camp beach.
The whole mile was a legendary surf break.
Then they filled in the beaches and jetties, and sold out the town to development and beach control.

Good ole Manasquan.. One of greatest places to ever grow up. Back in the day before they screwed up the beaches and sand, Surfer Mag used to say Manasquan Inlet was the best right on the East Coast... There were some epic days.

What did they do to beaches and sand!?

@@bdubbs5778 filled in all the beaches with sand and extended them out with beach replenishment. Which destroyed a lot of breaks.

Still hard to believe that they limit you to 300 yards for surfing. Of course come fall and winter everything‘s opened, but still used to piss me off as a kid. Remember some epic days there are and army camp. Hurricane Gloria was the biggest swell I remember, surfing clean double overhead barrels - that sadly lasted about 5 hours. Ha ha

I grew up in central NJ. In the summer would take day trips to manasquan.
In high school I got a surf board and surfed manasquan a few times.
Those were some very precious times in my life.
