Disappointing how the institute weapons are meant to be extremely high-tech, yet are the weakest laser weapons in the game
Me too but they're so common in the game I think they didn't want it to be to overpowered.
kaapa15 i would have preferred if they weren't so similar to normal laser guns. Instead of being weak throughout the game, they could actually be useful. For example when i first saw them before i played the game i assumed that institute weapons worked like tasers, which allow you to stun an enemy then switch weapons and finish them.

I felt the same way. They also look brand new out of a box and the standard laser weapons look like they have really been around for 200 years.

Pro tip: You can command dogmeat to get the cryolator for you. Just ask him if theres any items nearby when you are next to the weapon and he will fetch it for you. Im loving mine :)
and one more bonus exploit is, if you are on fallout 4 VR you can just reach past the case and grab the cryolater

"the Fatman is back, and the mini-nuke ammo is as scarce as ever" i call bullshit, loot respawns in certain enemy occupied places not to mention supermutant suiciders drop a mini-nuke if you kill them before they explode, they're quite easy to obtain now.
To think I've been shooting those suiciders in the arm all this time...

+TheKeilanm Yes, and thank god they are! I spent AT LEAST 12 game time hours in New Vegas farming the boomers in Nellis with the Fat Man and MIni Nukes (because they respawn with them every three days), and I still didn't have enough to satisfy my needs for blowing things up. In Fallout 4, the supermutant suiciders carry them now like you said, so I just constantly farm them for mini nukes. Best thing ever is shooting MIRV nukes with the Big Boy. No range, but fun to kill deathclaws with in the glowing sea.
My damn dog goes up to suiciders and bites their arm after I cripple both the legs to kill them. Fucking dogmeat tho.
Anyone else think that that the Assault rifle looks like the offspring of an M249 SAW and a Lewis Gun?

In which World a Gauss-Rifle is a "Energy-Weapon"? The Projectile it fires is clearly a ballistic projectile, and every wapon use any kind of "Energy" to fire its projectiles, so that cant be the point...

@Ferocious Battle That IS a conventional projectile tho, the material may be different, but there are different materials for the projectiles of normal guns out there too, it is a piece of metal, accelerated to hit a target, the only difference is how the acceleration is archieved.
End result stays the same, a piece of metal hitting a target, clearly a kinetic weapon in real life terms ^^

Yeah, its pretty limited in terms of base guns...
But im sure once the DLCs roll out, there's gonna be all kinds of new guns to customize.
Compared to new Vegas this isn't a giant amount but still a good amount
The amount of mods you can apply to most guns gives you tons of leeway to create a bunch of variations for the base gun types, but yeah, I miss the Chinese assault rifle, and the robust ammo types from New Vegas. Modders will fix this, or Bethesda will with DLC. Also no throwing weapons, which disappoints me, I really wanted to make a spear/axe tossing lunatic.
+jamie stuart As its been said, hopefully Modders could come up with some new models that'll work with the game. They don't have to go Gun Runners crazy just include some more known weapons like the R91 Assault Rifle, Chinese Assault Rifle etc. And with all the Synths running around I'm surprised "That Gun" hasn't made an appearance.
+jamie stuart I'm with you on this. New Vegas had an amazing selection of weapons, but a terrible "modding" system. I was disappointed by how few explosive weapons there were.
Maybe it's just because we were spoiled in New Vegas, but I wish there was a bit more variety with the weapons we have to choose from in Fallout 4. I know it's probably harder to do now that they have to make attachments with them now, but I'm kind of sad the combat rifle and assault rifle are the only assault rifle-type weapon choices, for example, and I really don't like the aesthetics of the fo4 assault rifle. I wish we could've gotten maybe the Service rifle and/or the Chinese rifle to add a bit more variety. The same thing goes for other classes of weapons. But hey, maybe we'll see them in a dlc.
Apparently someone found the chinese assault rifle model in the fallout 4 files, so I got a feeling we are probably going to be getting it in the future.
TheYeeHawk Yeah it was cut from the base game before launch sadly. It and the service rifle were my go-to weapons in Fallout 3 and New Vegas respectively. I'd love to see them both come back.

To be honest I am surprised there are not many real world guns other than the Chinese assault rifle (ak-47 I don't know why they just don't call it ak-47), Gatlin gun, 44. magnum, and double barreled shotgun. I would at least expect a M -16, Colt 1911, Bretta M9, Remington 870, 357. magnum, or M1 Grand.

you can buy cannon balls and cryogenic cells at most merchants
or bring up the players best friend the console and look for them .
Cryogenic ammo you can get ,if you get that stations, where you can hack a robot to come a life.....police , medic, or fire ,choose fire always kill it ,you get cryogenic ammo from it.
There are 26 base weapons in game not counting melee and granades, which is super low as for a Fallout game, the mods are nice but 26 BASE ?? this is sh11t lazy bethesda

Great video, how about a melee weapon guide next?
Baseball Bat, Board, Sledge Hammer, Tire Iron, Combat Knife, Machete, Chinese Officer's Sword, Walking Cane, Pipe Wrench and your fists. I think that's all of them. Also, did they mention that ALL weapons have a melee attack? :p On a side note, I was highly disappointed that the Shovel didn't count as a melee weapon. HIGHLY disappointed. Also, I modded up a Baseball Bat; made it black, and I renamed it, "The Big Black Bat"

Stupid Theory: Bethesda got rid of the condition and repair system from Fallout: New Vegas, Because they wanted to distance themselves form Obsidian. (The Outer Worlds has the Condition and Repair system.)

I've got a Two-Shot Gauss rifle with all the trimmings. Best sniper rifle in the game by far. With a proper VATS sniper build, this one-shots almost anything including Ancient Behemoths and Mythic Deathclaws.

nikon d3200 you don’t build. You just have to be lucky enough to find a Two-shot Gauss Rifle. Two-shot is a legendary gun type. Does double damage.

I don't understand why they made the institute weapons sooo downgraded compared to the pre war lasers pistols.. The institute technology is supposed to be more advanced than pre war technology in every fields and ways, yet they can't even create a better laser gun than that of pre war guns still used by the BoS and the Enclave? Weird.
I assume the institute is lacking some resource that was available to the prewar weapon manufacturers. Either that or the institute mass produces them which lets them make more cheaper but reduces their strength.

+William Bailey The way I saw it is the Institute's best tech is geared toward more general science applications, were as the Brotherhood and Enclave favored a more militaristic approach to tech.

I picked up a legendary weapon called "Spray'n'Pray" pretty early in the game.
It's a silenced sub machine gun with explosive rounds that do 15 points area effect damage.. Overpowered as fuck. I actually stopped using it after a while because it was too easy to kill my opponents lol

Did you already get the Ashmaker? Dude, that's the best minigun you can get in Fallout 4. Try also to get the overseer guardian, that's a combat rifle that shots 2 bullets per shot. The Overseer Guardian is available for sale at Vault 81

Fuck the hunting rifle all about the combat rifle the most versatile weapon ever.
@Candido Villanueva you can use this to jump further too. Hold vats and spam jump and cancel then once your in the air sprint and you'll go pretty far. Can be used to find secret areas without jetpack.
My favorite gun is the two shot combat rife/overseer's guardian. It's amazing with both the .308 and the powerful automatic receivers depending on whether you prefer an automatic or sniper rifle. :)
My favorite gun build is a long bracketed focused six-crank lazer musket with a long recon scope, or as I call it, the "Kentucky Long Rifle". A great alternate version, a short barrel scattered, is known as the "Blunderbuss".
i always use a silenced 10mm with a reflex scope, seems to deal the most damage in stealth at mid-range

That .38 pistol is highly underrated. Fully tricked, I loved it and still use it occasionally at 110.
If you get the "big boy" fat man from a diamond city vendor and mod it you shoot 12 mini nukes for the cost of one and it destroys everything !

when the 2 shot fires, they dont always go side by side. the might be on top of each other and one pops early. which nukes my face usually. but i almost never use fatman/bigboy anyway.

Well it's the 2 shot mechanics that do it. And I also have a few mods that might also play a part in it as well. Like the bigger explosions mod that doubles damage and explosive diameter for mini nukes, granades, and mines. I'm sure it would be fine on my vanilla character.
But the 2 shot mod doesn't shoot them side by side. Sometimes they come out at 3&9, 6&12, 8&2, ect.
i once found a ddouble barrle shotgun with the legendary perk that the entire ammo is in the clip at all time.....man i had fun with this baby. no reload and damage through the roof...beautiful.
A .38 pipe rifle modded w/ automatic receiver and a good stock/scope can be your bread and butter for dealing with trash mobs like mongrels, ghouls, raiders, and even supermutants. Ammo is plentiful and you'll dish out respectable damage, especially if you take a couple of ranks in the commando perk. Against anything stronger, like mirelurks, power armor, and especially deathclaws, you'll definitely want to use a stronger weapon.

Gauss rifle with the additional round per shot = best gun in the game, stack on your gun mods and perks and you can do a hell of a lot of damage in one shot..Dropping Legendary Deathclaws in one shot is nice :P
Fully upgraded, automatic overseers guardian with a silencer. (+sneak multiplier/commando perk) will mow down literally everything and anything with one mag
there is a glich where dogmeat can get the cryolator by telling him to check it out and he will take it through the cage
Personally I love my revolver rifle. it was originally a legendary pistol with an added bleeding effect, now I've named it dragonslayer as whatever it hits doesn't get back up

The Enigma you can use the rapid fire glitch on any weapon including melee. This makes every thing god mode. I don't even give a shit about damage anymore XD.
Try to find the never ending 10 mm, never ending hunting rifle, or the enraging hunting rifle which does double damage on opponents at full health. Best melee would probably be the ones which add damage after each consecutive hit per target
I love that the pipe weapons use oil filters for silencers - It's actually a realistic make-shift way to silence a firearm. You can buy kits that will allow you to thread a firearm to easily mount an oil filter.
My favorite is a .308 gun with a scope and an extended clip with a recoil compensator and a fully aromatic mod

Ted E Bear Once again, they're all modifications for the .44 pistol. There's three barrel modifications for the ,44 pistol: snub nose, standard, and bull barrel. Kellogg's pistol already comes with the bull barrel attached.

I use it with vendors. If they owe me 200 caps more than they have, I just ask for 100 5mm bullets. Just like to use them for bartering. Also, on Raider and Super Mutant leaders who have minigun a (obviously)

i think he means that the enemies dont start carrying plasma weapons until level 41. only laser weapons.
+Nick Tracy So he means, NPC stop carrying laser weapons at level 41 or just laser pistols, I still confused, because that's still incorrect as far as I know. I'm at level 80 and there are plenty of NPC using laser weapons.
+PC Friendly level 41 means the plasma weapon is VERY late game and finding one before that means buying one. ammo is scare until level 50. I'm at level 76 and I still run low on plasma rounds but every else are pennies to me, even the mini nukes.

You mean laser pistols? No, they stay common until level 70, where plasma takes over, but by that time, you should have more then enough and laser weapons for that.
My early-to midgame choose is a .38 Pipe-MP with a stump-barrel, the best stock, a flexvisor, fast-drum clip and a bayonet, for tactical close range combat in buildings.
For long range combat out in the wastes, it is a sniperrifle .308 as soon as available and maxed out for long range.
In the solid midgame it is maxed out and silenced 10mm pistol with automatic firing capacity, and a silenced, short barelled and nightvision scoped sniperrifle.
For realy heavy duty combat, it is a highpowered, short barelled Combat-shotgun without automativ fire, but equipped with best stock and a flexvisor, completed by a bayonet.
Still not reached the endgame, but I fantasice about Paladin Danses Laserrifle as a sniper-version for the perctree that maxes out V.A.T.S. AP and critical hits.

I don't get it.
Never-ending pipe revolver modded to hip-fire specs with a large bayonet. This, plus gunslinger and bashing perks make for a close range stab-kapow-stab-kapow-stab-ect. combo that is almost unfair.

Sooooo true. I have a 10mm that also does plasma damage but still only uses the 10mm round.

I like to use it in VATS only, spam it and it builds crits really fast, and I'm at 2 LCK

Maybe because it's a suppressed 10mm pistol, and, for me, was one of the first suppressed weapons I came across in the game, and, as a stealth type, is great for taking out enemies at close-medium range without bringing the whole place down on my arse. Not to mention, at the time I got it, was doing about 50% more damage than the 10mm pistol I had with me.

even late in the game I am using a sub machine gun you can buy from the merchant Cricket called the spray 'n pray cause it makes every bullet explode on impact it's like having a mini rapid fire missile launcher

The Cryolator can be retrieved by using your dog. Go back into the vault with your dog and order him to stand next to the cryolator cabinet, then talk to the dog and ask him to retrieve, he will go up to it and pick it up without having to open up the locked cabinet. This retrieve function can get you some nice hidden items throughout the game as well. Not a bad idea to use ince in a while just in case there is something useful you missed.

Belthador Well if you want to be realistic (pipe guns specifically):
1- most normal guns would survive.
2- they look like they would explode in your hands, break or jam.
3- only peasants and raiders use them in the game. Everyone with even the slightest significance has a better weapon. You are a hero and by the first 30 minutes of the game you come across 3 weapons that are already better than any pipe gun.

Pistols are the best bcuz there lightweight and you can have a different pistol for every ammo. Can have them all hot keyed and in inventory without weighing you down. Deliverer for 10mm, Kellogg’s Pistol for 44, a makeshift 38 pipe pistol, makeshift institute pistol for cells, plasma pistol,
Alien Blaster and a makeshift 45 pipe pistol.
.44 calibre is the strongest revolver

My favourite pipe gun is an automatic pipe pistol with drum magazine and comfort grip. Surprisingly good actually, try it some day.
I stored my Junk Jet in my BoS footlocker. I accidently blew up the Prydwen with it still inside. RIP.

I wish they were realistic about firearms. In New Vegas you could switch between ammo types depending on the situation you were in, and it would make all the difference. I know most people don't care, as long as a bullet comes out and it does damage they could care less. I'm a firearm enthusiast, and to see them dumb down the weaponry in this game is disappointing.

Wait you forgot something, try to look at nuka nuke lanchers that John caleb bradsberdon gave you if you shut down the power line nuka nuke launcher have a differnt type of mini nuke that you can craft in all chemistary station and also all fat man can be upgraded to nuka nuke launcher
if you have the money early on in the game get the spray n pray submachine gun it does 15 points of explosive dame that will stagger enemies and is modded to the maximum level when you purchase it note it is close to 3000 caps tho
+Curse Entertainment I never completed the railroad quests, but I raided it with the brotherhood. How do I get more ammo? Also I betrayed the brotherhood and joined the institute. Do you recommend this route? I did it because my son runs the institute, but raiding the institute with Liberty Prime would have been fun.

Love the Fallout games and Fallout 4 is a really good game. If you mod it its even more great.
I'm kind of scared actually, fallout 4 seems like it's inching it's way into becoming a loot and shoot game, like borderlands, the division and Destiny, with the whole lengendary armour and weapons, removing the repair system, modifying every part of the weapon, becoming less like and rpg and more like a cinematic game where there's no depth to any conversation
Visual Depression dont be saying these things, they'll listen to the audience and f5 will drop some f4 aspects and take the good from all fallout games

The lacking conversation depth has no barring on the skill system being removed from FO4.... That was just a poor choice of not adding it in with perks because i guess they did not want to mess with it.

Shooting being better then past FO games? good idea!
Better rare loot? good idea
Removing repair? Many wanted it removed and they did and now you got some who is complaining...
Gun and armor mods? Best idea! even better then it was in NV.
Less of an RPG? umm no.... only because you dont have a simple minded skill system anymore.
More cinematic? good idea because it makes the game feel less dead and raw.
Better conversations with depth? i agree but im sure they got lazy at that point so dont blame it because they took the skill system out because they could of added it into the perks or w/e.
Hoochi Koochi if im. being honest i dont much care for the rare weapons things, would have preferred the previous idea of one or two truly unique versions of a weapon being around somewhere

you can find a ASSAULT RIFLE at level 1 on Kendall Hospital, & a combat sniper rifle at Mahkra fishpacking those are the places you need to run as soon you leave Vault 111.. I also made a video of own to find this guns at my channel
I think an instigating Gauss Rifle is the holy grail of first-shot weapons, most Enemies die to a normal one in one sneak attack shot, and most anything else takes 2, or 3 if they're a legendary and they heal off your first shot.
