That skirt is gorgeous. I agree with the back seam in the waistband idea. You wouldn't need to break up the back pattern in the skirt if you just gather the extra fabric in.

Take off the waist band, gather or pleat the skirt to fit your waist then cut the waist band down to the new size. It will make the skirt a bit fuller but you won't be losing any of the design.

Love your sewing plans and attitude especially your aspirations to further your education. Difficult to work full time, study, sew and socialize. You can do it! Will be interesting to hear how you are balancing all the activities. I am a "cheering" fan. Good Luck!

I would make a seam in the centre back and take in...even if it interrupts pattern of fabric ...it will be wearable!! I love it

+Rita Jackson i might do that if the skirt gets too full with shortening the waistband alone, thanks 😸

Hello Zab!! I recommend you also to take the waistband out and cut it to your size and then gather the skirt to adapt to the waistband measure. And for next times, I guess you have to grade the patterns from your upper body measures size to the lower one, there are many pictures about how to do it. And by the way, La Maison de Victor is my fav magazine!! and the sizes are as the German ones, so you will always have to go down one size or maybe two. Looking forward to see your next video!!

I agree with Leann. Take the waistband off. You could cut a seam into the back of the waistband so that you don't have to fiddle with the buttons in front. Once you have the waistband the right size reattach it to the skirt (more gathering needed). If you do the center back seam it will pull your side seams back so they won't be on the side anymore. Awkward for pockets...

I didn't think about how it would affect the pocket!!! Thanks =D

Maybe you could take in the waistband by making 4 darts; two on each side of the center back. If you needed to decrease the waist by , say, 2 inches, each dart would be taken at 1/2 inch at the top of the waistband tapering down to nothing at the bottom of waistband. That way you wouldn't have to mess with the skirt part.

Have you tried flat pattern measurements? For this skirt, just measuring the waistband (as the hips are free) may have given you a better idea of the size to choose? But looks like an easy fix.

Maybe, instead of creating a center back seam to remove the bulk of fabric, could you sort of angle it outward almost like a dart? So you could tighten the waistband and remove some excess fabric at the top, but not need to disrupt too much of the pattern. I hope that makes sense. Lovely skirt though. And at least you ended up with something too big than too small! Best of Luck on your Sushi Orla! Will be so cute, I'm sure.

love that wax print skirt!!! i wonder if you just undo the waistband and cut a back centre seam for it only and re-distribute the skirt fullness so you can keep pockets and not disturb print. ive had to that although i was lazy and only stitched ripped from side seams along back so mine was full in the bum..no one noticed lol..good luck at school! tfs:)

Better larger then smaller, just need to try on before putting the waist band on so easier to adjust, agree with Leeann just gather the back more and redo the waist band smaller, did you do it yet?

I haven't had the time to do it yet, hopefully by the summer I will have it done =D
