    The depth of the mango was lovely, but if you would let me choose one for you to hand me through the screen I’d take the flight maple. I might even put a high g on it to bring out more of the ‘chiminess’. Thanks Alex! And gosh, I wish you COULD hand me that ukulele…..sigh…..I won’t ever be able to afford one like that…….

    Haha Alex, that Super Mario Bros cover was really f**king cool. Great video as always.

    I'm currently in love with mango ukes. Enough said!

      By the way, I find that a Savarez Pink Card (high tension N 529 R) Wound 3rd (plastic wound on nylon) classical guitar string makes a great wound 3rd tenor. uke string. They are available separately.

    Danke!
    I for one clearly lean towards 🥭 as it gives a softer, more mellow voice to an instrument that naturally has a somewhat sharp tonal character to begin w\.
    Have a gOOd wEEkend, Alex ✌🏻

    Great comparison Alex! I'm definitely in the mango camp but I'd never heard a mango compared to a maple before. They are so different it almost sounded as if the maple was tuned higher. Really interested in the strings too!

    Love the warmer mango sound, but they both sound great! Really interesting comparison video!

    Alex, I love your new sound comparison tune. I thought it showed off both ukuleles perfectly. The mellow mango sounded lovely, and the maple really sang beautifully on the higher notes. Really nice mate

    Great video Alex, never have I known or cared about woods or strings until I started watching your videos a year or so ago - now I feel like I have a much better idea as to what’s going on 😅 I think everyone needs a mango uke 🧡

    Great job at capturing the difference in tone woods, not always an easy thing to do in this format. If you do another one of these how about some cedar? Thanks a bunch Alex, these videos are super helpful to someone wanting to move up to a nicer instrument but doesn't have much in their area to demo.

      I have featured both the Big Island Uli and Kanile'a SUS ukes in many videos on this channel using the same equipment I used for this video. I recommend going back through some of the tonewood videos or videos relating to the above ukes and you will get quite an array of useful samples. 😁

    I had to listen to the sound samples a couple of times and close my eyes to see if I can identify the difference, in my opinion the manako has a deeper soulful sound, where the flight a10 has a brighter sound. Both are wonderful to listen do but my personal preference based kn this sound sample the manako is very dreamy 😍😍, thanks Alex another reminder why i am so bummed i dont have a manako....

    Nice work Alex, thanks. Both ukuleles sound great to me, much more different that I expected. The mango sounds sweet, mellow and rounded, but a fantastic, dynamic sound seems to jump out of that Flight maple! For now though, I'm sticking with my little Double Crème.

    Both are beautiful, but mango sounded exquisitely deeper. I liked it better than maple. Thanks

    Thanks for the video. In almost any other company, the Maple Flight would have been top of the class, but the Manako just beats it for me.
    This leads me to a question…when it comes to different tone woods, does the same high end builder tend to use the same build for the different woods, or do they do other things to accentuate it, and make the build and wood complement each-other? Does that even make sense as a concept?

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex  2 роки тому +1

      It makes perfect sense as a concept and it's not something I could answer myself... I know that with Kanile'a they do treat different woods differently but I imagine as they use a lot of laser precision and cutting tools that they would be aiming for a consistent feel and build.
      I would love to hear from a luthier about this and will be sure to ask the next luthier I interview for the podcast about this.

    Great comparison! I listened several times and never thought I could possibly conclude this way. Remarkably similar yet I think the more pedestrian maple wood construction eked out the better tone.

    Manako is definitely my fave. But I see what you mean about how reflective the maple is! Love me some uke logics totally turned around a soprano of mine. I just never enjoyed the tone or feel of the mainland soprano. Felt flabby unless tuned up to adf#b. Can now be played very happily in gcea and fab tone now. Uke logics are now the only string I use.

    • @TubeJLF

      Same for my baritone as well I didn't like the low d on it for the longest time I had it in high d. Till I switched to uke logic.

    Thanks Alex. Both Ukes are Stunning. I got some Uke Logic set from SUS and the A andE stand out for me, but thought it was just my ears, interesting that your C and G are nylon. Got to say both sound good. Couldn’t pick between the ukes sound wise as they both have great qualities and I liked them both. Have a great weekend.

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex  2 роки тому

      I love the high tension uke logic strings. I prefer my own ukes with Alex nylon strings on the Kanile'a usually but I felt like Fluorocarbon was the more 'honest' strings to use for the comparison.

    Both really nice in looks and sound but I don't ever hear back shape discussed in videos, which can affect the resonance. I suspect a curved back may make it harder to tell how the wood truly sounds. Anyway, enjoyed your playing. Replayed it a few times lol. Relaxing.

    The maple sounds lovely, but the manako has my heart 100%. I’m not sure it gets better than the manako tenors without spending over 5k

    Hi Alex, great comparison, thanks!
    Have you encountered laminated mango ukes, and if yes do they sound similar to a solid mango?
    Found ine that ticks all the boxes for me but it's laminated mango and I'm not sure. Also not able to travel to the store to play it myself 😔

      Laminate mango can sound good. I don't personally rate the Kala laminate mangos as sounding much like Mango but the odd uke comes along and can be quite nice.
