MXA do test with motorcycles stock normally. I suggest this gonna be the next step for the wrecking crew to put both on the same tyres. Wheels should fix, easy doing!
For pro level riders tires make a huge difference. For me at my skill level I wouldn’t tell a difference! Hell I rode with a flat tire and didn’t notice right away :)

Rideability and smooth usable power is everything for 99% if buyers, the works edition is the clear winner and you get to enjoy the extra bling. The stock exhausts on motocross bikes tend to be pretty damn good and rarely NEED to be changed. That said the works is an amazing package out of the box.
The weight difference is worth it. Dyno numbers, operators etc... are subjective so I personally wouldn't put too much stock in those findings and I think Yosh would probably disagree with those findings.
@@rfair123 Dynos are usually right when you use the same dyno on the same day, perhaps the works edition needs mapping work to better match the jetting to the changes Honda made but i trust MXA waaaaay more than i trust whoever is trying to sell me a $1600 part for my bike
Very interesting! I've love to see future shootouts have lap times for different level riders on the different bikes. If you got each rider to do 3 laps for a total time for the 3 laps on each bike, that might bring out more of the differences between the bikes.
The rear suspension changes could affect how the bike puts power to the track and account for some of the difference in lap times, I wonder if the standard 250 would be just as fast after the seals have broken in. If I'm honest, I still want the RWE simply because it looks cool.
Every cocky "fast guy" is required to pee $$$ away and throw the BLING on to be cool. The placebo effect is real, as real as pipe mfg want your $$$. The factories aren't stupid. They know what works best. These are four strokes you know. Even 2T pipes from factory are hard to improve on now days
Probably should've mentioned it in the video, but the Yosh that comes stock on this bike is actually an early version of the RS-12 that had to be ordered long in advance to come stock on this model, but they've actually come up with a new version of their CRF250 exhaust with a shorter header that's supposed to be stronger. We talk about it in the magazine article that's coming out on this bike
Nothing is ever as it seems. Unless there's a more controlled comparison, the truth is not found. FourStroke aftermarket pipes to me are nothing bit expensive bling. Only lots of $$$ to brag about and show off. The placebo effect 😂
Clearly the aftermarket exhaust companies have their work cut out for them these days! All that exhaust $$ for what...looks? Which system sounds best on the Honda? Oem or yosh?
I rode the 25 CRF250R and 25 CRF250 Works Edition back to back a few times and like Josh my butt dyno felt +1~2hp more on the WE! The WE has a more lively throttle response or is that just the hydro clutch and coated Showa suspension talking?😎
ALL bike prices are in the bananas zone. Exhausts are $1600? 😂 No, I'm not unemployed, and that argument that you should just not be a loser and shell out the money is BS. What an expensive joke.
well open a business in the USA, design and R&D a product with quality materials and pay employees, taxes and regs and see if you survive. or buy a junk china steel can for 200$
Jimmy is correct and it goes for any exhaust system. The money would be better spent on fresh tires for every race day and also general maintenance. You can only go as fast as your ability.
Since the WE costs as much as the shootout winner, it would really make sense to compare the 2. You can make up a lot of ground for the base CRF250 price point compared to the ktm array.
I'm a little concerned that updated mapping, port polishing, an upgraded air filter, and a full exhaust system didn't equal more horsepower and/or torque. Somebody has some explaining to do. I mean, that doesn't build a lot of confidence in the consumer who buys these types of upgrades, does it?
Put the 2.15 rim and 110 width rear tire on the stock bike and I bet lap times would be the same or extremely close. Engines same on the dyno and the suspension is stiffer and has better hold up on the stock bike so the stock version may be able to be ridden faster. Would like to see this done with all the factory editions ! This was a really good idea.
Its gotta be just mental. Less HP on the bike and softer suspension? And 2 of the 3 are faster? I think the coatings dont do a thing for lap times. Chrome on most forks these days and afyer listening to a podcast from the KYB guru at Star, coatings and slick suspension are NOT always giving the best lap times on certain ttacks and conditions. Again, I think its just mental, like all racing......
How is it slower on the dyno theres no way. With a full yoshi exhaust and polished ports. Should have a pro circuit full exhaust then Yoshimura isnt doing anything dang.
I think feeling of power is vasty influenced by sound....all shootout till now say that the new KX is slow.....but it is the most powerfull japanese bike and probably the quieter one
Rather than hearing the ultimate fastest lap I’d like to have seen multiple laps to see if these laps can be consistently achieved. I’m guessing the faster times are coming from the suspension differences?.
Not all engines will dyno the exact same. That could be just a strong motor from the factory on the base model. I bet there is a 1-2 HP variance on all the engines rolling off the floor
There are definitely variances, and dyno results aren't the end-all-be-all. A half-a-horsepower variance isn't much. What we get out of this is that the Works Edition is still a better bike, but it's not 2-3 horsepower stronger than stock like we wanted it to be
A bike thats about 25 percent more in dollars that is one second per lap quicker. A MX track changes a fair bit over the day. I'd stick to the stock bike and put that $2000 odd to tyres chains etc. Factory editions are rubbish. Tuning a standard bike ie spring oil height etc and being fit. You know it's all a con . Just rubbish. I'm an old Australian that raced in the 70s 80s. The sport I loved has gone to the shit house.
I think both bikes should be on the same exact tire for this test. Simply changing from Perelli to Dunlop could affect lap times.

They made 500 250s for the US market, I tried sourcing one but gave up, most dealers had them sold before arrival.
