Bopec Fire

On 10-10-10 Bonaire became an exceptional municipality of the Netherlands. Just before that, on 9-9-10, Bonaire received a special gift from the Venezuelan Government. An extensive fire that lasted 3 days, and caused widespread pollution. Among the "victims" was our beloved "Gotomeer" a lake that provided shelter and food for hundreds of flamingos. Until this day the lake has not shown signs of life and the flamingos have not returned. No reparation attempts have been made from the side of the oil terminal. Not even an apology.

Very sad, I've been to Gotomeer lake and drove around Bopec. there are a few dive sites north of Bopec. I really hope Bonaires fragile reefs are not in danger. They seem to be deminishing a bit because of bleaching
