  • An advantage of using a one-hander backhand can be to assess how little your opponent actually cares about the match if they use a two-hander in a way that can also be a retort against the idleness of a one-hander. In other words playing angrier tennis isn't sufficient if your opponent is playing to their best either knowing that there can be many rounds to a tournament. An excuse I gave my father for heading to the first tournament is how there are only a finite number of grips such that I won't keep re-attempting the same grips. The problem with growing older and wiser is that the same is true for many other tennis players so that I might not make an annual habit of foreign pre-qualifying tournaments. Here I play again with coach Souleymane from Senegal. I try to show no favouritism between the backhand and forehand as if they were both on the same bike gear as I accelerate through the contact point. (Flat 45° fh; 135° bh)
    5:17 medium speed
    6:42 intermittent serves (9:01, 15:47, 16:28, 20:37, 23:44, 26:00)
    16:58 high-speed
22:16 best rally of the match
I don't know how much I was helped steady my aim by a young woman leaning on me in a cramped bus to the tennis courts!
