    As a Victorian I am so sick & tired of these complaining & sycophantic NSW commentators. Just face up to the fact that the NSW bloke hit the Reece Walsh in the head with such force that Walsh was effectively knocked out & forced to undergo an HIA protocol. In an era with greater awareness of CTE amongst mode codes, that send off decision was totally & absolutely warranted. Reece Walsh's welfare should be the primary consideration above & beyond any other factors.

      Even if you agree or disagree with the send off ruling, there's no arguing that the send off ruined the game. Send off rule needs to be reworked, going down to 12 men for the entire game is too much of a disadvantage.

    The biggest difference between Qld and NSW is that most NSW commentators are already taking like you've lost the series because you lost Game 1. Qld NEVER think like that. Its not over until the 80min mark of the third game.
    Until you stop blaming one instance for losing, you'll never understand the Qld mentality.

    There is a bigger picture. This is a precedent, and it shows that the NRL is fair dinkum about protecting the head of players. This will have a 'filter down' effect and referees at all levels of the game will feel more confident taking action in cases of dangerous play; accidental or not. In these days of class actions by former players in AFL and Rugby it would be foolish to take any other course of action other than a send off. I feel deprived of a great contest, but a player's health for the rest of his life, is more important than my evenings entertainment.

    • @SilentHotdog28
      @SilentHotdog28 2 місяці тому

      100% agree. Was I as a fan disappointed that the match wasn't 13 vs 13? Sure, but at the end of the day, player safety comes first and the send off is a deterrent for dangerous big hits like we saw. If the jerseys were reversed and it was Holmes taking out Teddy or Edwards, then I'd be saying the same thing, it was a stupid act. Was Sualii going in there to kill Reece? no, but he was going in to do big damage legally......he just got it wrong and had to pay the price.

    As I saw it, the hit was a shoulder charge/torpedo launched into Walsh, this was error #1, made contact shoulder on head (face) error #2; doesn't matter if people slipping, NSW (ex-players/newspapers) made it clear they would target Walsh. I also believe Walsh was targeted in an earlier 'late' tackle, also believe it was a shoulder charge without any ref/linesman reaction.

  • @willus259
    @willus259 2 місяці тому +3

    Saying that Suaali'i shouldn't have been sent off because the "contest was ruined" is a terrible argument. If this sort of thing keeps up, players will keep trying to play on the edge of the tackle rules. That could mean you end up with a bunch of second tier players playing Origin. Send offs happen to protect player welfare and to penalise those who do the wrong thing. Commentators and former players need to be less emotional about the "contest" being ruined because eventually the game will be ruined.

  • @pinecraig1

    If you want to stamp out the head shots, there has to be harsh deterrents. Time of the game is important. Because it is more likely that the player is tired and the high shot is through tired play. But, in the 7th minute. Joey was not tired. It is just bad technique that lead to Walsh being destroyed by Joey. Bad technique should be penalized when it causes a knock out. There is no "Poor Joey". My concern is with the player with the eyes rolling back in his head.

    They targeted Walsh in game 1 last year - he goes up to take a bomb and gets hit in the air by a dude who has no interest in going for the ball. Then Walsh is on the ground and a guy comes in with a swinging arm and another guy comes in late, after the tackle is well and truly made.
    This year, game 1 they target Walsh. His first carry, the defense tries to tee off on him. Nothing illegal but it shows their intent. Walsh kicks the ball away and gets hit long after the ball is gone. Then comes the tackle where he "accidentally" gets hit in the head... by a guy who is trying to decapitate him.
    Stop making excuses. Someone in the NSW camp made the decision to target Walsh. The only mistake is that they thought they could beat him up and the ref wouldn't dare send someone off in an origin game.

    Meaningless game. Game got decided in the 7th minute. After Suali got sent off we ALL knew who was going to win. In today's rugby league world you aren't going to win with a man down especially with 70 minutes to go. The fans didn't get their money's worth and it was unfair on his team mates who had to cover from sideline to sideline. The rule is OK but just needs to be revisited.

      Lol anytime something happens to NSW, always talk Change the rules, QLD have been putting up with shit since Artie Beetson took the field, this is why NSW will never understand Origin, like QLD do.

      @@jackoutback1605I'm not emotionally invested in either team because I'm not from there. I watch Origin because there's no NFL games on rn.
      It's always an entertaining game/series with game 1 being an exception.
      QLD understanding Origin is a phrase I've heard a lot over years since I followed the game. I think it's just a way to sell the game so the tv Networks and the nrl can make their money..just an outsiders view

    The match should be a annulment no contest wiped from the record books all bets refunded to protect the image of origin 12 vs 13 garbage as for the player he has a lot of work to do with his attacking positional play watching nsw submit to qld was garbage the worse ever I have seen all of them

    Walsh slipping into Joey caused the hit to head. You shouldn’t ever get sent off for an accident. It’s gonna happen in games like this.

    Suaalii has been hung out to dry. It was a good tackle and he's been blamed unfairly. If Walsh tackled Suaalii in an identical way, he be lauded for a great tackle.

      What rubbish. He would have been sent off and all QLD would be saying "What have you done Walsh".

    • @hellagood67
      @hellagood67 2 місяці тому +4

      Absolute rubbish and not physically possible. He hit Walsh’s head, with his shoulder and knocked him out. Origin or not, it’s a send off. If you want 13 on 13, players need to follow the rules. The playing field is a workplace which means it should be a safe place for the players. If there’s no rules, we’ll have players taking out their opponents in really dangerous ways, with no consequences. You tell me that you’d accept an unsafe environment in your workplace. I highly doubt it.

    Interesting that there's basically been no media comment re potentially one of Qld's best player being taken out and the impact that had. It's all been poor old Joey being sent off and missing 4 weeks.
