I have been decluttering for 2 years now and have finally reached a sweet spot. I'm not a minimalist but I have only the things I use or love. It's been time consuming and exhausting at times. But I feel I have changed a lot throughout this process. I dress better. I read more ( more time) . I appreciate the things I have more it's funny how having less makes you do that. It has truly been worth it.
Suman, I agree with Marinella…if you only have the things you use or love, why do you deny you are a minimalist? That is the very definition of minimalism lifestyle!
Same here. I am a renter and I have been decluttering and packing for two years for my approaching retirement days in possibly two years. I see I still have a ton of “just in case” stuff especially gently used professional attire from my corporate jobs. I even have suits and such from Enron Oil & Ga.. It is even harder now to purge since I work from home. @only63.
Instead of gifts I ask to bring nothing and tell them that I already have everything I could wish for, like that family member or friend who is aksing what to bring as a gift. For the ones that really really really want to give something I ask for some time in wich we can do someting together. A Walk in a park or at the beach, drinking tea or have a homemade lunch in the garden. After repeatedly ask the same thing as a gift (nothing) over the years, people surrender and you have a clutter and guilt free birthday! sometimes it takes a while but everyone I know got my message by now😊🎂🎉 so l celebrate that win this weekend. Thank you Vera have a good week!
This year I've started learning my family and my friends that I do not need anything. I see it is a problem for many people to come without any gift. I hope my friends will learn it like yours.
@@lawendanka a gift card from a shop you use regularly ( in town or online) for selfcare products / favorite restaurant /hotel voucher /cloth or even foodstores could be an alternative. I must be honest I almost forgot .. My mum still gives me money😂😩 so if I later on in the year buy a new shirt, flowers, or go for a lunch etc ( something she values) I take a picture and thank her for the lovely birthday gift🤭🤫😇. Her language simply does not imcorperate words as simple living, mindful nor frugal living.
I had two thread boxes for cross-stitch hadn’t used in 16 years 👀. Two unfinished projects. I kept one with associated material; as it was actually started by my moms best friend who died years ago… the rest I asked a friend if she wanted as she actively embroiders. She was thrilled. It was a win/win. I didn’t feel wasteful and I kept only the one to complete for my mom. My goal is to finish by Mother’s Day. I know it will mean a lot to her.
Hello, it's always nice to see/visit you. I have decluttered huge amounts of stuff over the years and disciplined myself not to buy anything unnecessary. But, suddenly, as I was watching this video, I realised that all the stuff I'm hoarding, mostly sentimental things, is simply because it's not in the way. It's stored neatly all over the house and garage in spaces that I don't need for more important things. So although I regard myself as a minimalist when it comes to clothes and kitchenware and things I use on a daily basis, I'm far from being a true minimalist!!!! I have a clutter free home yes, but lots of stuff stored away. Every now and again when I need some cash I select items and sell them!!! It's actually funny, realising this now. 🤣
While listening to this, I ate a wonderful chicken curry salad that I made for myself, I tackled a stack of holiday cards cluttering my desk- I separate the front of the cards in my card stock box to make gift tags later, disposing the one time messages. Also gathered my donation bags from the closets reminded that they are full and ready for drop off. Thank you for your wisdom, it’s so helpful!
I think this is one of your most helpful videos. I liked all of the categories you covered, especially the category of “fantasy self items” which gave me a new perspective on some items that I struggle most to get rid of but couldn’t put my finger on why. This video goes on my save list.
I love the use up what you have tip when it comes to pantry items, I’ve been buying way more groceries than I really need the last few weeks and instead of going grocery shopping the next two weeks I actually have enough food to eat that’s just sitting here.. don’t really care if it means I eat the same meal every day for dinner till it’s gone 🤷🏼♀️
Haha thanks for sharing Cassidie! :) I agree it's nice to use things up, and it doesn't really matter if your meals are a bit weird or repetitive for a while until it's gone haha
Thank you for making the vid. It’s organized and the solutions are simple enough. I would add just one thing to all of this - and it might sound very uncomfortable to some. Have in mind that your time on this planet is really limited. You won’t take those piles of stuff with you after you die. Also that puts devoting your precious time to materialistic things in perspective. Seriously. It’s a great reminder that we will all be dead soon enough so it’s better to focus on what is really important.:)
So true. 😊 Experience life's gifts, don't store them, if possible. ❤ Being and becoming, not so much owning and having. Free your space to free your mind, heart and soul. Our tomorrows are finite. ❤
I absolutely loved this video. It takes A LOT of steps in working towards becoming a minimalist and its a journey, NOT a destination. I am in the middle. I have decluttered cause I moved. I began to buy things for my new home, one at a time based on needs. Things we absolutely needed as a family. But I got rid of tons of years of clutter and it feels great. I still have a long way to go but Im working on it. 🥰
I really like the 'do I feel confident in this'. I had a jacket I was keeping for so long because it was a really cool jacket but it didn't actually look flattering at all, it's finally gone now :)
Vera ....thank you again for all your down- to- earth tips, on how to handle all of my belongnings. Every time you move from one place to another, you in a way do this, decluttering activity. But for some reason, things start to pile up after a year or so at your new place. Because of your video and tips, I have set aside two full days thsi week to run a few of your cathegories, clothes etc as well as papers. We already have reduced decoration items, and have condenced to 2 small trays, where we have gathered a few things we would like to have with us all the time. Instead of pictures and paintings in large frames we have 2 simple shelfs from IKEA with pictures on kids and grandkids..... I really like the way to give examples on what almost all of us have back home, that for some reasons are still kept instead of having been sold/ recycled/ donated.
II would place myself somewhere in the middle, but that is probably where I feel most comfortable. At times I have “decluttered” things I later need to replace, but I also like more than minimal in some categories.
Jane, it is not a mistake to declutter something you needed to later replace if the item was available at the store/online when you needed it and it didn’t cost a lot of money. If we were clairvoyant enough to know the future, we would be better off using that gift to play the state lottery, hahaha.
Mary, you are right. This is especially true as I have had to move quite a bit and didn’t want to schlep stuff I could get again. I think my main regrets have been getting rid of some items of clothing that I haven’t been able to find again and now wish I had. Still, these aren’t major losses.
Two pro tips that I would share about one's wardrobe are this: 1. Use the 80/20 rule, which is that realistically, we only wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. This can help you gain perspective of what you want to keep and what to get rid of if you just don't know where to start. 2. Create a system! One thing I love about the capsule wardrobe system is that it allows me to get creative with what I already have, and if I find myself in a rut with my style, I will mindfully decide which pieces no longer serve me and reflect on the reasons why.
I used to be so good at decluttering! My house used to be so peaceful and we almost never had random junk piling up. But, since we've had our baby, and we just moved into a house that we're remodeling.... there's stuff everywhere! Some living areas just have to stay cluttered for now so I accept that (construction material type stuff that can't be put away yet) but I've let the rest of the house go too because I felt like there was no point right now. Watching your videos I'm getting motivation to do some decluttering on the rooms where there isn't so much going on:)
This is definitely one my favorite videos of your so far. I love the beginner and pro level tips for each category. I have struggled at great length (like, took me YEARS to finally release them...) with items that cross over into multiple categories. Like expensive designer shoes I wore only once or twice. They are wardrobe clutter, expensive items, fantasy self items, and due to my having a lot of nostalgia about the time period of my life in which I purchased and wore them, they have a sentimental value as well. Oof! They were hard to let go of. I tried for a long time to sell them and was so heartbroken and disappointed that no one was interested in them, at least at the price point I wanted to sell them for. It was such a relief when, after years of hemming and hawing over these, I just let them go. Letting go of the "fantasy self" around expensive (and uncomfortable to wear...) fancy clothes has been a real inner growth journey. It is hard for me to accept myself as I actually am, but I feel like that is, in a lot of ways, the essence of the spiritual journey :)
Wow thanks for sharing this Dominica!! :) I totally get what you meant about items sometimes being several categories of 'difficult' clutter to be with. Must have felt difficult but also like a big relief when you eventually decided to let them go :) I have experienced that feeling a few times as well :)
While I know many gifts are given in love, I have also realized over the years that some people give gifts (at least in my family) to make themselves feel better - because it is 'expected' and they would feel guilty or judged by others if they did not - rather than for the person receiving the gift. I have several relatives that insist on giving me gifts - often things that have nothing to do with me or my lifestyle - despite my repeatedly asking them not to buy me anything. For example, one relative has a wine cellar so he always gives me wine despite the fact that I do not drink. At least I can give the wine away, but it makes me feel bad when it's some knick-knack or piece of clothing that I know is going straight to the donation center because I'm not sure anyone will want it and it might just end up in a landfill.
Maybe just tell them you don't drink wine... BUT that if they really want to give you a gift they could buy you "x"... And choose a consumable that you love.. Eg if you love Italian food.. Ask for some nice antipasti or pasta or sauces etc... that way they get to gift you something.. And you get to use it up and enjoy it (so no long term clutter). Then send them a photo of what you cooked with a "it was delicious, thank you message". That will please them and encourage them to buy that type of gift again🤗. You can fit your request to suit what they usually like to spend on you (you can use the value of previous gifts to work that out). I did this with a family member.. And asked for tulip bulbs for my garden.. Then sent photos of them in flower.. With a thank you.. Every year after that she asked if I needed anything for my garden.. And I always gave her a request. I always said I could order/buy it if it was easier for her, and could save her postage. Now she gives me the money to buy what I need because I told her once that I usually buy my gardening plants from a specific place run by disabled adults to support them. I always send her a what's app message with photos of how my garden looks with the plants, flowers, herbs etc that were from her or her money over the years😊.
You have fallen into the Guilt rabbit hole…please don’t feel guilty if you don’t serve alcohol in your home and don’t want to be known as the person who gifts bottles of wine…just tell that relative I can no longer accept thoughtful but alcoholic gifts in my home, and I appreciate very much you thinking of me, and I am sure you can find someone who will appreciate it. Also, don’t feel guilty about donating gifted knick knacks… you are not responsible for keeping it out of the land fill, IMHO the manufacturer and advertiser/marketer bear that responsibility not the recipient.
Hi there Vera. I’ve always felt like I have too much stuff and I used to get rid of a couple garbage bags maybe once a year… since coming across THIS video I’ve made heaps and bounds. This was the video for me that helped with a lot of blocks and my minimalism journey has been and enjoying and meaningful experience ever since. Thank you so much
I always look forward to your videos. They are both relaxing and motivating in a way that I've not seen elsewhere. Usually, the motivating people are super high energy, which can be a tiring energy to be around. However, even on my most frazzled days, I can feel inspired by your ideas and results, without feeling exhausted just listening!
This video is incredibly helpful, Vera! I find the last category the most challenging for me: sometimes I don’t know what to do with my stuff, so I keep it in a box. I also discovered that letting go of fantasy self items is (for me) easier and less painful once I understand what type of life I want… Your course (In love with your life) really helps managing the chaos, from a cluttered wardrobe to the insecurities! Highly recommend it!
I am in the middle (closer to a beginner than to a pro). I struggle with decluttering in the ethical way. Just throw away would be the simplest but I do not want to throw useful objects. I love the last tip: to learn from decluttering and carefully consider every purchase in the future.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes I thin learning from what we declutter can be a great way to purchase more mindfully in the future, and prevent future wasteful purchases :)
In the category of gifts… I have a mother-in-law, who is extremely generous, but her generosity does not always take into account what the recipient needs or wants. When we got married 12 years ago, she gave me one of her sewing machines, which is also a gift she gave to every other daughter-in-law when they joined the family. All of the women sew and make quilts, and while I did learn how to sew as a child, it is not something that I do as an adult. I have never used the machine, and it is sitting in my closet, but I have kept it because the relationship with my mother-in-law doesn’t feel worth jeopardizing over my desire for a clean space. If I genuinely believed that she wouldn’t want me to keep it out of guilt, I would regift it immediately! But… I actually believe based on past experiences that she would be deeply offended if she knew I never used it, and even more offended if she knew I passed it along. So here it sits. Anyone else relate? I’m not looking for the “forget her, you do you!” Answers, because the relationship, while somewhat unhealthy, is still a very important one to me and my husband. If anyone else has navigated this kind of situation with tact and love, I would love to hear your stories
I have a similar experience and I have just made space by getting rid of my own things (even if I liked them more) and accepted that certain things are worth keeping out of love for the other person/people. If I don't have anything to do with the person or they never visit or wouldn't know, then I can let it go but if someone important knows (the gifter or someone who may tell them, then I have kept it).
just rewatched this video today! i’m moving to the netherlands to study abroad, and i’m taking stock of my clutter before traveling. i found your tips to be super helpful to my situation, so thanks for sharing!
@@SimpleHappyZen ... thank you so much for noticing my comment 😊💞i sold almost all of my designer handbags because they were just collecting dust on my closet and i never regretted it.
I consider myself a pro in some areas (like food, papers, clothes), but a beginner with sentimental items. I find it very hard to let those go. Thank you for your tips! I'm going to challenge myself to declutter them without feeling guilty :)
Thanks for sharing Kirsten, good luck with your decluttering goals! Feel free to give my video about sentimental items a watch if you need more help :)
I just moved, living at a smaller space now. I want it to look tidy and wide, that's why I'm thinking to start decluttering! This helps a lot, I really don't want to keep lots of stuffs now lol
I love this idea of different levels of tips! Sometimes mastering these decluttering skills is so difficult and such a long journey - but the best way to master the skill or get to where you want to be is to just start! Just start taking those little steps and get some wins under your belt. Great idea. Thanks!
i am not a deliberate declutter but if i have the chance i will. And we are currently renovating our home and I think this is the perfect opportunity to declutter after the house is done.
I have more trouble with kitchen than any place else. I am now living alone as my son is married and has a family and I have tons of kitchen things I no longer use and hesitate getting rid of. I really need to declutter every room in my house once more. It is amazing how many things just keep coming into my home.
BTW def. a pro by now. I used to be a collector of sorts. The " oh this could come in handy one day " kind. Then a few years back I came across shows, books and videos on decluttering . It changed my life!
Great tips🤗. I wrote all the dinners and lunches I cook all the time (where I don't need recipes).. I have about 30... Then I wrote a shopping list that covers all the ingredients for these meals and only buy these. I cook meals according to perishability of the items. That makes sure I keep a zero waste kitchen (now over 6yrs). In my family we agree on money (including amount) for the kids.. Then they can get something they really want.. Eg a big Lego set which uses all the money from everyone put together. So they only get one present. But they like that. For their Callender and Santa sacks I mainly put treats.. My kids don't have a sweet tooth.. So I buy very little chocolate but more peanuts, crisps, beef jerky, Asian snacks etc.. These last them for ages/a few months. Then I add things that need replacing eg.. This year it's a new baseball/sun hat and for my youngest a new metal cooling water flask.. Ie I try and stick with 90% being consumables... So the house doesn't gain clutter. Then for Advent we have experiences. I use my sentimental as decoration ie. When traveling I invest in paintings other art eg statues or eg something I have collected eg rocks, fossils and crystals... These I display or turn into art. I only have one small box if stuff from childhood I don't want to display, but that I like to look through. All my cards, concert tickets etc I put in photo albums with my photos (all my prep digital photos). These albums are in the livingroom and I love looking through them with a coffee or tea and listening to music🤗. Even my kids like looking at them and seeing what I got up to when I was younger. I'm not an extreme minimal.. I am a minimal I some areas eg clothes and less minimal in other areas eg craft supplies.. I have 2 big boxes of that. But everything is organized and has a home so I don't feel cluttered. So I guess I am in the middle? After decluttering and organizing over 4 yrs (although last year I didn't in all the lockdowns. I was to busy with homeschooling and converting my own teaching for online). But I had to separate 18 yrs of living together with my ex.. And realized most of the clutter that caused me the stress had actually been his stuff! I have filled in total of 90 boxes of his stuff since he moved out😱. Can't wait until it is out the house, that will feel amazing! With mine and the kids stuff, I have reached a happy place (just a few boxes ready to donate and sell which I have to deal with).
Hi Vera! I consider myself somewhere in the middle definetely, even though I have been decluttering and practicing minimalism and simplifyng my life for 5 years. I am surely not the picture perfect idea of most people's minimalism, but I know myself to be a pro at MY eco minimalism, which makes me so happy! I love all of your videos so much and I hope your September is so lovely : D
Vera, your timing could not have been more perfect for me. I was texting with a son tonight and said that I had sold a Royal Albert china mug, and his reply was,, "Great Mum that is one thing less I have to get rid of in the years to come"......... Isn't he so sweet and lovely... 😂 So now on with the next items I am writing on the list of Sell / Donate / Recycle / Bin.. Warning never buy a house they are easily filled with unnecessary clutter. 🙄
Perfect timing, thanks 🤗 For tomorrow I've scheduled my seasonal reorganization and decluttering And yes, mindful consumption is the key, very well said 🙏
This was a great video to reinspire me and get me to take a second look at the things I have after my first few rounds of decluttering. It is also a wonderful, gentle, encouraging video to share with those who are reluctyot scared about decluttering. Thank you! Also I feel the very same about wasps. 😱
This is such a helpful video! 😊 I've been working for some time on decluttering my home, and it can become very overwhelming. One system that has worked really well for my closet was making a little table/diagram sort of thing with 3 types of items, 1. Looks good on me, 2. Makes me smile, 3. I feel good and like myself when wearing it - the rule is if the item only matches 1, 2 or both, it's out! It must always match number 3. this is not always easy to admit to yourself, especially on the pretty things that make you smile but you end up never wearing it because they are no longer you or just feel uncomfortable, donating them or selling them to a living home is really the kindest thing to do for yourself)
I started my journey to minimalism in 2012. So I guess I'm a pro. I like your tips and they are well thought out. I'd add for beginners to do the 15 minute a day declutter room by room, using basically your beginners tips. i started with Flylady and that worked for me to get started.
Hi Vera, thank you very much for the tips! I'm in a decluttering process right now because I'm going to move... I started with my bookshelf and donated a bunch of books! My tip for books is: donate what you know you're not going to read again ;)
My pro tip for managing paper clutter is to move your filing cabinet into the kitchen where you tend to open your mail. My cabinet used to be in my bedroom office, and this tiny change made a huge difference in that I now open mail and immediately file papers I have to keep in the proper place, and recycle what I don't need. This is all made easier because ALL of my bills are set on auto pay, so I don't have to put bills in a separate pile to pay later.
Just did this last week as my beloved dog Jackson passed away. I kept a box with his shirt, shoes, and leash and other sentimental items and got rid of the rest like his bed and dog bowls. It was hard to do, but needed to be done. Thanks for the video Vera.
Hi Vera! It's been a long time since I left a comment on a video, but I watched all of them. I am definitely not a beginner at decluttering anymore, not quite a pro yet, but somewhere in the middle. I found your idea with the two kind of tips really interesting! Have a nice week ✨
Good tips! I think I'm a different level in different categories. I'd say I'm pretty good with sentimental and paper, but find pantry, decorative and 'just in case' items way harder!
I consider myself a moderate in between minimalist though i prefer to be called a voluntary simplicity enthusiast. I started many years ago when i read an article in a Coop newsletter. It made so much sense that i began to buy simple life books. One I highly recommend is "How Much Is Enough" by Duane Elgin. It has become a classic. About 4years ago i moved into a small old house. Then i realized how much stuff I had even as a simple lifer. My greatest culprit is books. I have quite a few and find this the most difficult thing to declutter. Since I have been spending a lot of my time fixing up the old house, i have not kept up with declutering as much as i would like. But one thing I am keeping up with is trying not to buy things. That I do, by not visiting the stores. Stores have this mysterious way of enticing people to buy. There is a whole science called advertising which specialises in getting people to hand over their money. Thanks for tge videos.
When it comes to decor I consider if it still speaks to me/the wow factor or do I go meh and move on? Putting the items you don't want on the curb for free is a great last resort.
I’ve done this a few times, I’m glad to get rid of the stuff to someone who obviously needs it! Things get a few days out there before I do a Tip Run. Last night a side table, given to me by Mum cos she had no room for it (!!) disappeared 👍🏻😀
How did you know I have weird pasta I'm not using? Amazing! I didn't know I have a fantasy self...great to think on this and adjust accordingly! Thank you! I'm in the middle of this process.

By now I am definitely a pro. I have been downsizing from almost 100m2 to a 16m2 room in a shared flat. So I have been decluttering many times and finally reached a point where I am happy. But I definitely needed to hear your take on expensive items! These are my weakness (because I also live quite frugally). Also, the fantasy self. The number of fantasy hobbies and interests was quite riddiculous. It has been getting better recently, but still I find it hard to let go of my ego in those cases.
To answer your first question, I'm in the middle and currently 'Stuck' ! I live in Metro Melbourne, Australia and we are in our 6th Lockdown. Charity stores are closed, I'm not allowed to have people in my unit in order to sell things! I'm sure this must change eventually. I sincerely enjoy your videos, Thank you
I consider myself somewhere between a pro and in the middle. I’ve had many decluttering sessions for my own stuff and I’ve gotten rid of massive amounts of stuff. But I do still have items that I need to do something with, but I don’t know what to do with them. My biggest problem isn’t my own stuff, it’s my roommate’s stuff, and her mother’s stuff (she lives with us), because they are both clutterbugs and have way too much. My house is overrun with random stuff and I can’t get rid of it because it’s not mine. It gives me a great deal of anxiety every time I walk into the house. I’ve just about stopped cleaning my house because it takes longer to move their stuff around to clean than it actually takes to clean the area. I can’t convince them to part with anything. I’m about ready to start a covert mission to throw things out when no one is looking.
Something that I would add to these tips is 'other peoples' stuff'! The majority of clutter in my home has been other peoples' stuff. I found it helpful to purchase a large garden/porch box that I call 'TBA' and put these things I come across into and then empty about once a year.
Hi Vera love your new approach.❤ I think I'm between the middle and the pro. I've been decluttering for 4 years now. I have no problem getting rid of things. But I don't think I'm a pro.
Another tip for decorative clutter, particularly if you genuinely enjoy most of the items you have, and thus don't find much to declutter, is to be mindful of future purchases of decorative items. For example, I used to collect fairy statues. When I went through them, I ended up keeping most of them, but have stopped collecting them. Now, I will only buy one if it *really* speaks to me (and I am not actively looking).
I am definitely a decluttering beginner. I honestly don't own much (I'm not much of a shopper), but I live in a small space that feels perpetually cluttered, and I always feel like I'm out of space to put things.
Hi Vera.. another impressive video.. Always received something new and Sparky... 🎉🎉 Enjoy moments. In india we are now celebrating Lord Ganesh festival 🙏
I have begun to declutter. I took 5 or 6 pairs of Ferragamo heels to GoodWill, a charity for donations. I also put a collection of cooking magazines into recycling 2 weeks ago and will recycle another this week. I am stopping now to shred old paperwork. Old papers have to go!
Im an intermediate. I start each round with the lower emotion items and the big wins in terms of space. Things like paperwork can feel less motivating because you can spend all day and clear a relatively small space. Wheras donating a large kitchen appliance is a quick win.
I use to consider my self an extreme minimalist but I got into really bad depression period and got way to cluttered. And I'm looking to regain just the minimalist status.
I don't keep cards. The best gift for me is money, to pay bills. Especially Christmas time. I have 2 extra quarterly bills. January is one of those months.
@@Deb.-. It all started innocently enough, I was preparing to move and eventually realized I didn't have very much worth the effort. I didn't even know minimalism was a thing.
@@Robert-qm1ld Great... Well done.. In the past I donated about 99.9% of my books and after watching Vera's latest video, it has just spurred me to get rid of more things, I think the garage will be the next for me to tackle.
@@Deb.-. I don't have any books. I digital download (borrow) from my local library. It took me a year and one half to complete the first time as my plans changed and I eventually went on a three + year 65 liter backpack journey. I'd be doing that again if it weren't for Covid so I'm not very attached to most of my stuff. Keep making good decisions on what to keep, cleaning out excess makes day to day living easier.
Hi there, thank you for all the nice, soothing and useful videos. I just have a remark that you may want to consider: when there is a text in the video and that you are speaking at the same time, I get lost because I can't focus both on listening to you and reading the text which is similar in meaning but different in its words. Does this make sense?
Middle ground. I've already done most of the decorative, though there are still a few that I could get rid of. Does this place need this item. Everyone is gifting me plants now haha. I've done a declutter of my clothes. Selling them at the moment. Could probably go lower. Love the questions. Totally agree with expensive items if they don't give value anymore. Ah sentimentals. I got rid of so many school Notebooks. Treasure box! I have one with my baby teeth. Paper clutter never stops for me! I love to take notes on paper. I have places in my drawers. I could improve on system. Random junk lol. I have a lot of crayons and paints from when I was a child. I cleaned my mum's kitchen and organised it. I threw out all the expired stuff. XD once I start decluttering and cleaning, I'll spend the rest of the day doing it. Haha Ah yes gifts. They're easier the older you received them. Oh fantasy self. Never thought of that! Giving away for free. Nice idea. My friend once gave me some clothes. Thank you for this fun video, easy to understand and eager to do more decluttering.
I’ve been decluttering on and off for the past few years but nothing consistent. I don’t find it difficult to let most things go but I’m dealing with my husband and son who don’t find it as easy to let things go. I have no problem with them keeping their personal belongings but just need their help in decluttering household clutter….ie. kitchen, decor, seasonal decorations and everything else in storage.😩

That's amazing, thanks for sharing!!
When I throw a birthday party I ask for food. Everybody has this special recipe only he can do and it is always amazing.
Minimalism is the best thing I’ve ever done in the home and workspace. My mind is so much clearer.
So happy to hear that Amy!! :D
Ah I totally get that! Thanks so much for sharing Beulah, take care and have a great day!
'Would I buy it again? Would I buy it now?' is a very good question. Very helpful.
Happy to hear it, thanks Joanna :)
Thank you Cheryl, so glad you found this video helpful! Lots of luck with your decluttering, let me know how it goes :)
I really love the colours in your home. I usually find minimalist homes to be too bland but yours is really warm and inviting.
Thank you so much Ashley! 🤗🍵
That's great, congratulations!!! :)
I really like the 'do I feel confident in this'. I had a jacket I was keeping for so long because it was a really cool jacket but it didn't actually look flattering at all, it's finally gone now :)
🤗🍵✌
Thanks so much Bengt and I'm so happy this video inspired you! :)
II would place myself somewhere in the middle, but that is probably where I feel most comfortable. At times I have “decluttered” things I later need to replace, but I also like more than minimal in some categories.
Thanks for sharing Jane! 🤗🍵
@@janeolinger8038 if you can’t find special pieces clothing then they must be out of style now, did you try vintage or thrift shops?
Been a minimalist most of my life. Went thru a really deep clean a year ago, it helps to clear the mind.
Awesome! :)
Two pro tips that I would share about one's wardrobe are this:
YES great tips, thanks for sharing Amy!!
Yes that sounds challenging... We can only be very clear about not wanting these items.. But after that there's not much we can do :)
@@rebeccarendle3706 That sounds absolutely lovely :)
It's a win-win!
Thank you so much Laura, I really appreciate that 🤗🌷💕
I am in the middle (closer to a beginner than to a pro).
So awesome! Hope you'll enjoy your time here!
i am a practicing minimalist and your videos helps me a lot💞🇯🇵i love decluttering even before i practice minimalism.
Thank you so much!! 🤗🌷
Congrats with the move and good luck with decluttering! Feel free to check out my Decluttering & Home playlist if you need more help or inspiration :)
I am a work in progress. Making good progress with your help . Thank you and keep up the good work.Still need help to go deeper.
That's amazing Sheila, just keep going one step at a time! :)
I love this idea of different levels of tips! Sometimes mastering these decluttering skills is so difficult and such a long journey - but the best way to master the skill or get to where you want to be is to just start! Just start taking those little steps and get some wins under your belt. Great idea. Thanks!
Well said Wilhelmina! :) Thank you!
i am not a deliberate declutter but if i have the chance i will. And we are currently renovating our home and I think this is the perfect opportunity to declutter after the house is done.
Good luck with the renovations!!! :)
I have more trouble with kitchen than any place else. I am now living alone as my son is married and has a family and I have tons of kitchen things I no longer use and hesitate getting rid of. I really need to declutter every room in my house once more. It is amazing how many things just keep coming into my home.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Phyliss! :) Just take things one step at a time :)
I'm a beginner and your videos are very very helpful. Thank you so much!
Thank you Nancy, happy to hear it :) I wish you lots of luck with your decluttering goals!
BTW def. a pro by now. I used to be a collector of sorts. The " oh this could come in handy one day " kind. Then a few years back I came across shows, books and videos on decluttering . It changed my life!
That's amazing!! :)
Great tips-thanks! I priortize decluttering any areas I touch the most. Those are the kitchen, my office, my bathroom, and my closet.
Ah that's clever!! Also, I love matcha lattes 😄
The format of this video is really useful and versatile. You have definitely inspired me to do a little declutter before autumn ❤️🍂
So happy to hear it, thanks Carolina!! :)
Great idea for planning your meals, thanks.
Aw thank you Haley, that's great! :) I hope you'll have a nice September too! :)
Absolutely brilliant tips for anyone trying to make sense of decluttering.
Wow thank you so much Lynby! :) Have a nice day!
I am starting and trying to be a minimalist. This really helped me and definitely improved my journey! Thank you so much for making this masterpiece!

I love LOVE your videos. I go back to them everytime I need to hear this or motivate me to clean
Aw thank you so much :) Have a nice day!
Hahaha that reaction is funny 😄 Thanks for sharing Deb, I wish you lots of luck with your decluttering goals!
Perfect timing, thanks 🤗

I feel the very same about wasps. 😱
Aw thank you so much!!! And YES they're so scary, I'm always on edge around them haha

That's amazing, I wish you lots of luck on your minimalism and decluttering journey! Let me know how it's going every once in a while :)
@@SimpleHappyZen ok, thank you
This is such a helpful video!
Thanks so much, that's awesome! :)
Hi Vera, thank you very much for the tips!
I'm in a decluttering process right now because I'm going to move... I started with my bookshelf and donated a bunch of books! My tip for books is: donate what you know you're not going to read again ;)
Thanks for sharing Junia and I wish you lots of luck with the move!
Yeah and then your husband comes and yells at you and takes it all out back to the shelves, even if he will not read them either. Just because.
Or a shredder in the hall so any junk mail can go as it enters the house
@@louisehorsfall9400 I shred anything with our names or address or any banking info. I don't shred junk mail

Just did this last week as my beloved dog Jackson passed away. I kept a box with his shirt, shoes, and leash and other sentimental items and got rid of the rest like his bed and dog bowls. It was hard to do, but needed to be done. Thanks for the video Vera.
I'm so sorry for your loss Ngoni, my sincerest condolences 🌷

Hi Vera! It's been a long time since I left a comment on a video, but I watched all of them. I am definitely not a beginner at decluttering anymore, not quite a pro yet, but somewhere in the middle. I found your idea with the two kind of tips really interesting! Have a nice week ✨
Thank you so much Marine and it's nice to see you in the comments section again! :) Have a great week
Good tips! I think I'm a different level in different categories. I'd say I'm pretty good with sentimental and paper, but find pantry, decorative and 'just in case' items way harder!
Ah yes, I think most people have some areas of clutter that they found trickier than others :) I wish you lots of luck with your decluttering goals!
Thank you for the pro tips. This seems to be rare and what I am looking for, how to go deeper.
Happy to hear it :) Feel free to check out my Decluttering & Home playlist, as I always try to include some tips that go a step further
I love the category "fantasy self items" 😂 Thanks for the tips!
Happy to hear it, you're very welcome Myriam! Have a nice day!

Wow that's some serious downsizing you did! :)

Hi there and welcome! :)
To answer your first question, I'm in the middle and currently 'Stuck' !
I live in Metro Melbourne, Australia and we are in our 6th Lockdown.
Charity stores are closed, I'm not allowed to have people in my unit in order to sell things!
I'm sure this must change eventually.
I sincerely enjoy your videos, Thank you
Ah that makes it tricky... Hopefully things will open up again soon :)
I`m somewhere between beginner and pro :) I love your videos they provide so much inspiration!
Thank you so much Olicia, that's nice to hear :)
Ah I'm sorry to hear that, that must be tricky to deal with.. Your final comment made me chuckle though :)
It’s time for someone to move!
Something that I would add to these tips is 'other peoples' stuff'! The majority of clutter in my home has been other peoples' stuff. I found it helpful to purchase a large garden/porch box that I call 'TBA' and put these things I come across into and then empty about once a year.
What does TBA stand for? :)
Hi Vera love your new approach.❤ I think I'm between the middle and the pro. I've been decluttering for 4 years now. I have no problem getting rid of things. But I don't think I'm a pro.
Thanks Cathy!! You sound pretty pro-level to me 😄🤗
Another tip for decorative clutter, particularly if you genuinely enjoy most of the items you have, and thus don't find much to declutter, is to be mindful of future purchases of decorative items. For example, I used to collect fairy statues. When I went through them, I ended up keeping most of them, but have stopped collecting them. Now, I will only buy one if it *really* speaks to me (and I am not actively looking).
That's a great tip!! Thanks for sharing, makes total sense :)
I don't need to declutter that much but I have a lot of stuff. I just like to be mindful of what I get in the future. That's the best take-away.
Great video, great tips as always
I'm absolutely a beginner. Like, of there was a step before beginner, that would be me haha but I'm so motivated by these videos.
Hahaha thanks for sharing Ashley! :) I wish you all the best with your decluttering goals! Let me know how it's going every once in a while :)
I am definitely a decluttering beginner. I honestly don't own much (I'm not much of a shopper), but I live in a small space that feels perpetually cluttered, and I always feel like I'm out of space to put things.
Thanks for sharing Chloe, wishing you all the best with your decluttering and feel free to let me know how it's going :)
Hi Vera.. another impressive video.. Always received something new and Sparky... 🎉🎉 Enjoy moments.
In india we are now celebrating Lord Ganesh festival 🙏
Thank you so much and enjoy the celebrations!!
Love this video! So motivating. Thanks for sharing 💝
Happy to hear it! :) Thanks Stefanie
This video is pure gold!! I love it
Thank you Cristina!!! 🤗💕
What a useful channel, from this to bujo's.
Aw thank you so much! :)
Intermediat on my journey to pro! 🙌🏻✨
Good luck with your decluttering goals!
Im an intermediate. I start each round with the lower emotion items and the big wins in terms of space. Things like paperwork can feel less motivating because you can spend all day and clear a relatively small space. Wheras donating a large kitchen appliance is a quick win.
Somewhere in the middle. Lots of decluttering exercises to work on here. 😀👍🏻
Thanks for sharing and good luck with your decluttering goals! :)
I use to consider my self an extreme minimalist but I got into really bad depression period and got way to cluttered. And I'm looking to regain just the minimalist status.
Hope you're feeling better Angela! :)
I am not a beginner declutter, nor a pro ,so i am in the middle. Good video, thank you
Thank you so much Lisa, have a great day!
I don't keep cards. The best gift for me is money, to pay bills. Especially Christmas time. I have 2 extra quarterly bills. January is one of those months.
Decluttering is a journey :)
Thankyou so much as always❤😊🌸🌼🌻🌠
You're very welcome Pratiksha 🤗
Incredibly helpful ideas!! Thanks!!
So happy to hear it, thank you! :)
I love your little coffee table!!! May I ask where you got it? 😉🍰☕️💜🌱
Thank you Rosa! I got it at a little store where they sell furniture made with natural materials.
Pro level minimalist for sure. 😄 2022 will be my 10th year.
Wow, fantastic. 🙂
Nice, your 10th year!! :D
I am now a pro. I only have paintings that my mom made to me and NO decorative items: I have plants!!! So much better.
Thanks for sharing Catherine! :) I agree about plants
Hi there, thank you for all the nice, soothing and useful videos. I just have a remark that you may want to consider: when there is a text in the video and that you are speaking at the same time, I get lost because I can't focus both on listening to you and reading the text which is similar in meaning but different in its words. Does this make sense?
Makes total sense! Thank you for the feedback :) I'll try to sync up the text and the words better.
love your white round couch table with the lotus flower
Thank you! Actually we bought it many years ago in a boutique that sells Eastern furniture :)
@@SimpleHappyZen thank you for the answer. I like your videos and recommended this one also to friends who are decluttering. glad I stumbled over it
Middle ground.
Haha
Ah yes gifts. They're easier the older you received them.
Oh fantasy self. Never thought of that!
Giving away for free. Nice idea. My friend once gave me some clothes.
Thank you for this fun video, easy to understand and eager to do more decluttering.
🤗💕🌊
i always look eagerly forward to your videos :)
Thakn you so much Christina :) That means a lot
Helpful information, thanks!
Thank you Kay! :)
