On that day in 1981, there were four presidents (past, present, and future)standing on that podium (Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43).
At 6:43, the 41st president shook hands with the 39th.

Thank God Carter lost. He said, "I'll spend the rest of my life apologizing for losing to Ronald Reagan." Jimmy, STOP APOLOGIZING! We could use another RONNIE now!

Interesting to hear the speculation about what Carter might do after leaving office.

Is that "Bush 43" speaking to Rosalynn Carter at 0:30?

4:30-4:31 Donaldson: Are the hostages out? Carter: Not Yet.

Donaldson: They (the Iranians) have snubbed him to the very end.

If you're talking about the scene at 2:35, I believe her name is Antoinette Kuzmanich Hatfield, wife of US Senator Mark Hatfield. Senator Hatfield was chairman of the 1981 Congressional Joint Committee on the Presidential Inauguration.

Ford as Reagan's running mate? What?!

Reagan briefly flirted with the idea of making Ford his running mate. Ford really didn't want to do it, so he put all sorts of conditions on his accepting the post. If Reagan agreed, it would make he and Ford almost co-presidents with a free reign over foreign policy - the thing he and Reagan disagreed most on. Reagan couldn't accept that and the idea quickly dropped. Cronkite interviewed Ford in the booth at the convention where Ford set out all of his conditions. It was an hour a rumor and frenzy. It is on UA-cam somewhere.

I think it's Patti Davis, Ronald Reagan's daughter.
