Interesting, I accidentally bloomed mine and it's currently off timing on bloom cycle. It's blooming in the winter. It last bloomed in the spring of last year which is the normal time. I am hoping it will bloom again for me this spring, I see some potential bloom growths. Thanks for sharing this video.
I have many plants 'off-timing' with their cycles - I don't worry about it anymore. Alas, my farmeri succumbed to mites - before I knew I had them! I've every intention of getting more orchids this year - once I know that I've got through winter affording my electricity bills!
I have a dendrobium as well, it's a small one. I keep it in my living room and just spray it everyday, and feed it with orchid feed in the spray sometimes. It was growing a spike and I thought I was getting a display, but I celebrated too early because it was just a new leaf!
That's a shame! Although not all bad - because if it was a new cane then it should bloom on that next year. They don't grow spikes as such - they bloom from the canes.
very interesting video - thank you for making it. I have this plant but no flowers yet. Greenhouse looks interesting and has encouraged me to buy a nepenthes which I found in my local garden centre.
Geoff, how is your Dend Farmerii? Looking at Michael McCarthy's comment on temperature, did you move it to the new growroom for the summer? If yes, will you move it to the cool greenhouse for the winter cool rest? Mine is growing Ok with a new shoot growing but no flowers yet.
It's not looking great to be honest. The entire greenhouse was infested with mites and it seems had been for many months. It appears some plants simply eject leaves when they get attacked - so you never actually notice the mites getting to visible numbers. I now know this to my cost in many lost orchids. Looks like I'll have to start again!
@@Grow_Up_Man55 Do you think you had insufficient ventilation in the winter? I too have a Rhino and, with help of husband, constructed a bubble wrap tent inside with the 'roof' made using 2x2 wood attached to the hanging rail and the bubble wrap stapled to the wood. Loads of sticky tape for gaps etc. I let the auto windows open so got ventilation on a sunny winter day. Minimum temp 9oC. I keep warm orchids in the house.
@@patsones6950 I can't quite picture what you've done but it sounds like a great solution. My plants get zero ventilation in winter. When temps can be below 5°C for many weeks I can't open the windows or the door or all the heat will go out. It's a conundrum that I'm still to solve.
It is dehydrated. They should hold their leaves for three years. The 18 C is the preferred night temperature in summer, day temperature in summer should be 27-32 C.
Thanks for that succinct summary Michael. I tried soaking it but alas, too late. The blooms lasted about 6 days. Still, some of the best things in life are all too brief.
@@Grow_Up_Man55 6 days is pretty normal for the group, really. If you have really cool temps and a large plant, you might get two weeks, but 5-10 days is about the best you can hope for. Still better than Den moschatum, whose blooms last a mere two days. Imagine trying to time that with a show for judging.
@@rubymahajan4235 it needs light similar to an Oncidium at the minimum, but will do better closer to Cattleya brightness. Yes, it needs a winter rest, but not as severe as the deciduous types.

Not accidental you are a good grower.I look at all you are growing - amazing
Aw thanks Kathy. That means a lot to me. 😘
Great video! Your greenhouse is looking great this summer. I've always wanted this one. I really like the flowers.
Thanks Nicole - pity the blooms don't last long - mine managed 6 days before falling off!🤦🏻♂️

Glad it was helpful! nepenthes are great plants - very satisfying to grow and a real talking point!😁
Great information. It is a very pretty flower. I’ve not seen one in person either.
Thanks Michelle. Wish the blooms had lasted a bit longer. 🤷♂️
Love that poached egg! I agree that is does look a bit dehydrated
Yeah shame the blooms only lasted six days! 😩
😩 maybe the next one will be a longer show 😊

Did you buy this plant as a blooming size plant ?because my farmeri is about 12 inches tall.🤔
It was pretty much the size it is now - and I've had it about 9/10 months.

How much light does it need . Does it need winter rest
