I was a CO for 6 years and some of what you're saying is true. I never would allow innocent guys to be extorted for no reason like guys on non-violent charges like DUI or missed CS payments. I'd usually look out for them by placing them in PC or the hole until their time was up b/c I didn't want them to not go home.
I also made sure that the inmates in for the worst crime got their food and would be that noon guard to give food out to those who were being extorted for their food.
Prison from what I realized is a madhouse and is often ran by absolute incompetent inmates that personally I found not to be that bright, hence the chaotic environment in prison.
If only all correctional officers had you’re mindset .maybe the system would see a lot more inmates coming out rehabilitated instead of institutionalized .

What if the inmate you’re trying to extort throws a left and starts fighting? Assuming y’all leave him alone if you know he will fight every-time you try to extort him. Understand you might get extra time but that’s worth it to keep some sense of freedom.

True I know personally this son of this lady and he was sent to ICU he survived and then he killed himself bc they didn’t left him alone after he survived and came back to the same nightmare
My son is currently in the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison and when he arrived he was immediately met by several gang members with shanks who threatened his life if he didn't get them money. We sent it to him not having any idea that he was being extorted until he was briefly able to tell us later. We are not a family with money so what can we do to assure his safety? He has been placed in one of the worst pods and he isn't even there for violent charges as the inmates that he was placed among are.
If you give him money for him to give the gang members the extortion will NEVER stop , unfortunately he will need to stand in his ground and fight if he needs to , even if he’s terrified . They do this to all new inmates to see what they’re made of , if they know that’s no money coming even after a beat up they will leave him alone . Your son need do law low , mind his own business, and don’t show fear at all even if he’s terrified . I feel you

Question. It somebody tried extorting me and I hurt them but let them live, won't they try to get me back ? So now I'm forced into a situation where I feel like I'd have to take em up out of there. But then I may never leave prison. So my choices are, be a bitch or do life in prison?

If you're in prison and you're getting extorted and the correctional officers won't do anything you can always tell your family or have your family write or call the facility and complain to the warden. When they know your people on the outside know about your treatment on the inside the facility will do something. Remember even in prison you have right to protect yourself
