      I grew up playing tennis which is the same surface and it's like 15 to 20 degrees hotter on the court than in the air so in Texas it would literally be a death trap lol.

      The pool would be like throwing money in a hole, though. The heat will evaporate most of the water and refilling and adding chlorine will be a constant battle.😂

    A mud room is an area where you come in from outdoors in bad weather you can take your wet/muddy/dirty clothes off. It's usually in close proximity to the laundry room.

    I lived in Houston for 10 yrs and loved every minute of it. The heat can be difficult for the first year but, the body does acclimate and there are life style adjustments. My years there were far more than i ever could have imagined. When my parents were aging and needed me, i took a transfer back "home." I thank the great state of Texas and the wonderful people of Texas for those 10 great years. Blessings ~ karen

      Stop it! More of us live in these homes in America and it’s possible for more of us to do so than people in the UK could aspire to in the UK equivalent. Some of my countrymen you guys are so busy kissing the English ass that you defeat the point. The point is hell yeah show how great our American lifestyle can be the English like to poop on us and your trying to soften the blow that it is pretty great here and that we do have the opportunity to live good in America. They try so hard to make fun of us and our way of life and look down on us. So for once let us see them envy us for a change. Lol

    This house was a model home on display so it was showing all of the upgrade options that are available. the builders will typically use the garage as the sales office so if they were working on a sale then that's probably why he didn't go into the garage. Beautiful home, I live in Katy and it's a nice suburb of Houston.

    • @Kim-427
      @Kim-427 Місяць тому

      So what it’s still better than anything they can aspire to. I noticed they didn’t look at the home in Texas that was a model home and affordable on the lower end of 200 thousand or a little more with upgrades. They probably picked this one on purpose to avoid the other one because it would’ve shown what a poop hole they live in. Don’t let them off the hook by making them feel better. They don’t deserve it they make fun of us to in their own way. I remember when these two first started out they use to be real sarcastic. They’ve cleaned it up because the money has started rolling in off of us. Americans please stop supporting these Brits on UA-cam. They make money at our expense and they really don’t like us and it’s not fair that they mock us behind our back while eating off of our support.

    As for the bathroom window, you can pull down the shade, but if you want frosted or stained glass for a little natural light, you can have them put in.
    Since this is a model home, the clear window allows shoppers to see the landscape. It can always customized to your liking, like my cousin did.

    I moved to Katy, Texas 2 years ago and live in a house similar to this one, but not as big or as many bedrooms and without the special upgrades like wood on the ceiling and the special lighting and other upgrades. It's about 3,000 square feet and is still a very impressive house and we paid about $420,000 for it. It's got the same "look" as this one. The nice exterior, modern look, granite and quartz counters, nice cabinetry, large windows, top of the line appliances, etc. The main difference is my house is 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and this one is 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths plus a big gameroom downstairs. That's where most of the price difference comes from. This is a huge house.

    I’m in Houston and know people who have purchased these new builds. Most have major regrets. SUPER high light bills to cool a space like that. Cleaning nightmares. Cheap materials… etc. One even had to completely evacuate their large family from a 1 year old home due to black mold coming out of all the fancy walls. The home got rain during the build and the contractor just keep building not letting it dry out first.

    The upgrade in this house is probably about $100K - $150K, and then when you add the furniture, this house will cost about $800K including the front elevation of the house. Your property tax will be based on $800K. That is why many buys the basic model and do the upgrades later. Property tax will be based on the purchase of the basic house.

    • @H2G2Stp
      @H2G2Stp Місяць тому +1

      That varies. My parents modified their home and that increased the value which increased the property tax quite a bit. Some places do reassess of property taxes. My mom's is now more than double what it was at the time of purchase because they made improvements (that's in Virginia). In NH property tax can be totally insane and very subjective depending on the assessor. Not much else is taxed and no state income tax so property tax is ridiculous

    $650K is the base price. As this house sits its probably closer to $850K. I used to live in Houston. Live in Dallas now. Houston is not tornado alley, but does get hurricanes. Dallas is in tornado alley, I've lived here for 28 years and have never seen one. What's crazy is when he was mentioning the Houston-DFW-San Antonio-Austin corridor. I couldn't help but think that entire area is about the same size as your wonderful country. My husband and I go on cruises out of Galveston frequently, we drive from DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth), it's about a 6 hour drive when there are no traffic back-ups. We never leave the state of Texas. There is just so much space here, it's so much easier to build these big sprawled out homes. You definitely don't see homes like this in New York City, where land is premium and there isn't anywhere left to spread out to. England does have expansive countryside and communities such as these could branch out to create some suburbs such as these. Katy, TX is a suburb town northwest of Houston. If Brits were more willing to have that commute like Americans do, places like these could be more common. Since so many companies have implemented work from home policies since Covid hit and they realized they could get rid of high overhead costs of keeping a huge office space, the suburban dream has become far more efficient and people can branch even further away from city centers without compromising the bigger income that comes with living in a big city. Gonna sound like the true Texan I am right here and say, y'all should start the wave of luxury spreads in the countryside and build one of these master planned communities. I bet many Brits would jump at a chance to own an American style home. Go for it, it could be your entry into great wealth in Great Britain! 😊

    Many who move here from California or the northwest US are shocked at how far their money goes and how large a home they can get here. We are all spolied eith large kitchens and multiple bathrooms. Even in my little condo, I have 2 large bedrooms, mine with en suite, and a walk-in closet and the guest room has a roomy shower room right outside the door, a washing machine closet in the hall and large open concept living, dining and kitchen. This is normal for here. Before you decide to move here, it's good to be aware of the horrid heat. Right now at 1451 it's 94°F and the feels like is 105°. We live inside with our central air conditioning too many months out of the year. Also the SE Gulf coast is more subject to hurricanes and tropical storms than tornadoes.

    Here a mud room has an exterior entrance and is where you can come in and take off your muddy clothes from being and working outside.
    There's usually a mud sink that's where you can rinse off very dirty objects etc
    And maybe a shower as well.
    With few exceptions, I would rather restore a well-constructed old home than a wood frame made of new construction materials.
    Also, I'd rather have a smaller house and more land. Then you guarantee that even if the area is built up around you you'll still have privacy.
    The bathroom window has a mirrored effect that means anyone on the outside can't see inside but you can see outside.
    When he says it's a seller's(edited because of an oops)market it is absurdly so.
    People are bidding tens of thousands higher than the asking prices and still getting outbid.
    Then you're already upside down in your mortgage because you just paid more than the house and property are worth.

    The external architecture gives a nod to the Prairie house style created by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He was from Spring Green. WI (Taliesin east). He blew open the stuffy Victorian and opened it up. You will find lots of nods to Prairie style all over the state especially in Madison. Monona terrace in Madison, WI was designed by him as well. He created the Usonian style of homes that sometimes gave a nod back to his earlier Prairie style architecture features but not always. One of his most famous modern houses is Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. Sorry for the ramble. lol Also that's NOT a chef's kitchen and it's a small, yet decent kitchen. I personally would find it an insult for that price but that's me. lol

    I lived in the Cypress/Katy area a good part of my life. The individuals buying these houses dont know that all of Katy was at one time all RICE FIELDS!!! That means a lot of water and flooding!!!
    And YES tornadoes definitely go through there. A good-sized tornado hit a neighborhood in Katy just a month ago. When i lived in Cypress, a tornado blew the windows out of our brick home and caused damage to the shingles. Plus, I've been through numerous hurricanes and hailhouston and surrounding areas are on a Bayou, creeks, and very low land.

    It's not really tornado alley. Your biggest problem will be hurricanes. It's far enough inland that the wind isn't the problem, but the flooding is a concern. There are ways to mitigate that, but people always think it won't happen to them. The reality will be the heat and humidity. If the power goes out during the summer, then there is a real chance of dying. Invest in a emergency generator, and or solar power and batteries.

    Hey Pops. I looked at so many model homes before I bought mine back in 2005. Really you would be spoiled for choice. These builders usually have 5 or more floor plans to choose from. Varying lot sizes and 2 to 3 car garages. You can also choose your carpets, flooring, cabinets, appliances. Here in the Seattle area we even had the choice of air conditioning or not since you really don't need it much and these new homes have energy efficient windows, and doors. There are new housing developments everywhere up here. Seattle's economy has been booming for decades. You'd be welcome up here and it might even a little like the UK because of it similar climates. Don't expect Houston prices up here though lol.. I think that that house in Seattle would cost closer to a million dollars. Salaries are much higher up here though so it sort of balances out.

    Model homes do look great because they are a "model". What you buy won't have as nice of a lawn or landscaping in front or back. And they will also cheap out on other portions of the home. As someone who was house-hunting until late last year, they make the homes faster than they can sell in the Houston area which means you don't necessarily get much of a choice when it comes to what is in the house. You can add later if the Homeowners Association allow it. Katy is an annoyingly huge city (not suburb) west of Houston where everyone from California moved to. This in turn drove up housing prices and just created more congestion. It takes like an hour to drive from Katy to Houston and it's only a 25 mile drive. LOL

    Houston doesn’t get very many tornadoes, they are more tropical in climate and they get hurricanes usually, but not bad. However this past spring I had relatives in Houston and they did get caught in their first Houston tornado. Tornado alley is typically Kansas, Oklahoma is the number one spot for most tornadoes I believe in the world, and then north Texas like Dallas. Houston is south east Texas. So they get more hurricanes than anything. But Texas is vey hot everywhere. But if you have to be in a tornado, you want to be in Oklahoma , because the warning system for tornadoes is top of the line! I live in Oklahoma, I’ve been through several tornadoes, and all of our weather men/ women are world class scientists. And they let you know what street that tornado is turning in, do plenty of ti e typically to take shelter.

    Truly, you can get a $300 to 400K home with 4 bedrooms 3 1/2 baths with open floor plans 2 car garage on 1 acre or more. The home will be nice, on a bit of property, with neighbors close but not at arms reach. This one was a McMansion type with the goodies, so final print will be close to 750 to 800K. The yearly property taxes will be steep, but it is nice.

    • @H2G2Stp
      @H2G2Stp Місяць тому +1

      That really depends on where you are. In my part of Virginia you can expect an average home to start around 700k and it wont have much land and the cheapest apartment in my county is $1850. It really depends on where you live. Even within a state it can fluctuate greatly.

  • @gailkoelling2033

    He said the homes in the neighborhood 'start' at $600k..this one is probably $800+. It's a beautiful home, no doubt, but practically speaking, it' expensive to cool and heat a two-story vaulted home due to all the dead air space. This home would require two HVAC units working overtime to stabilize the temp of this home. We built a similar style home (on a smaller basis) in the DFW area and the bills ran us off after two years. Moved to a one story, ranch style home, same square footage, and our electric bill was half that of "the big house". Just a caveat for anyone looking to buy .. then again, if you can afford this home, a $1500 a month electric bill may not be an issue.

    • @Swordsfor200Alex

      Way off base clown. I have a home in Texas that’s bigger than this house. (2 story 4800sq ft 4 beds 5 baths game room home theater study) We have 3 zoned HVAC units and in July / August the electric bill is $600 max and keep temp at 73° downstairs and 75° upstairs. That also includes running 3 pool pumps 12 hours a day. We have a pool chiller that keeps the pool water temp at 85°.

    You were wondering at the curtains in the living room. With a 20 foot ceiling height the fabric required for those curtains is at least 53 yards or about 48-49 meters of material. I used to make curtains so... fabric costs about $15.00 per yard and those are definitely custom but not very generous on the pleating depth so they would cost around 795.00 USD. Costs more to live in one of these mausoleums. Young people are opting out of these kinds of mega houses. It is considered wasteful and showy. All of the Gen Z kids I know are trying to appear poorer than their friends. I know a lot of trust fund babies that look homeless by choice.
