    A great addition! Nothing like the sound of water in a garden. I did a goldfish patio pond a few years ago and it brings us endless joy.

    I love your channel! You and your husband are such inspirations. My husband and I have been binge watching! You mentioned Laura from Garden Answer being your inspiration, I think your channel is much more relatable and informative and that you are the inspiration!

      Wow Susan Thank you for your kind words! Gardening is my hobby and not my business so I feel my videos are very amateur sometimes (like how many times I say "I'm super excited" or "umm", not to mention volume issues). We are just a couple who love diy and are passionate about gardening and meeting other gardeners so I really appreciate the encouragement!!

    I really dig the look of the lamium and caladium in the pot together! And the heucherella.

      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 роки тому +1

      Glad you like the combination! Those plants are very low maintenance and I rarely water them. I will definitely be repeating the combination next year and leaving the heucherella and lamium to overwinter in the pots so I'll just have to pop in the caladium bulbs in the summer.

      @@planttasticcookinggardenin1561 You def have a lot of knowledge in gardening. So very gifted. I have recently discovered this joy since quarantine began. I was going to hire a landscape designer. But soon learned that the decorating that I do indoors, the techniques can be applied in the garden.
      I have many mistakes in the garden but slowly I am improving. Thank you for making my morning so filled with new and inspiring ideas. Thank you.

    Absolutely beautiful! I must ask, does your significant other also enjoy working in the garden? I am an avid gardener, but my husband is not, and loves his lawn. Makes it difficult to get him to agree to remove more lawn in favor of planting space.

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  Рік тому

      Thank you! Hmm, good question. Honestly I think my husband only gardens because of me. He just goes along with what I tell him were doing 😂. You have being “earth friendly” on your side with getting rid of lawn. Lawns require a lot of chemicals, fertilizers and work. Getting rid of them is a win for the earth. But I do recognize that a beautiful lawn screams Americana 😂

    Is there something you can use to keep the water in the fountain from getting green? I’ve tried using distilled water from my dehumidifier, a little vinegar but haven’t found anything yet.

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 роки тому

      Not completely, you will have to drain a fountain periodically for a thorough cleaning. You can use a fish/bird/wildlife algaecide like Api Pond Algaefix to control algae between cleanings. You don't need much. I don't recommend acids like vinegar or harsh chemicals like bleach because it can be harsh for wildlife and tough on the concrete. I use regular city water in my fountains. Algae is caused by a combo of nitrogen and sunlight. I hope this helps.

    I love 💕 shady areas, the Hydrangeas are beautiful, do you leave your Gazebo out in winter ?, mine is a fabric top and we take it down because of snow in Western Massachusetts

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 роки тому

      Thank you! Yes, we leave it out all year and use it to store our outdoor furniture cushions in the winter. It has a hard metal top and has sustained two tropical storms, snow and ice with no problems. We do take down the screening though. I prefer it open in the Spring and Fall.

    Curiously I'm considering putting in a maple but I wondered if it was fast growing (more than a foot of growth per year); how long did you have that volunteer maple in your garden?

    • @planttasticcookinggardenin1561
      @planttasticcookinggardenin1561  3 роки тому

      Umm approximately 2 years I think. Yes they are really fast growers in our area zone 6b NJ. Sandy loam soil. The mother tree is in the neighbors yard, about 8 years old and it’s at least 30 feet tall. They grow like Leyland Cypress here 😂. In comparison, the red acers have been there for 18 years. We do not prune them for height. We do amend with a lot of compost in our beds so that could be part of it.

    • @jaimeduran3378
      @jaimeduran3378 3 роки тому

      I would not plant a maple tree within 15 ft of a structure. They are fast growers even 2 - 3 feet per year in my zone 8A. The maple trees also have vigorous roots that can damage foundation and plumbing. A minimum space between a living structure and tree is required to minimize damage. I am not discouraging the placement of one of these trees in your property just be thoughtful of it's placement. They are beautiful trees that produce amazing shade and fall color. Especially the new varieties like Autumn Blaze.
