”When I hit the pillow at night, the one player I never worry about is David Platt.” (Graham Taylor about David Platt) Music: Marc Brauner - Love Triangle
One of the greatest players of his era. Passionate, brave and cool under pressure. Too bad he had to play under some rubbish England teams after Italia 90, but he still kept an amazing goal scoring rate from midfield. And did well in Italy when that league was strongest.
One of the more unkind things I remember being written about Platty was that he only scored so much to remind you that he was actually on the pitch. Still, you've got to say that he really was terrific on the volley.
Yep I remember this being said alot back then, and looking back it was true! Same can be said about le tiss but the further time goes people seem to forget...cracking players no doubt
Great Video! Platt was an unique player - had his own style. Fast, mean shot and very opportunistic. Had a style reminiscent of the 60s football: Charlton, Eusébio, Denis Law ... you get the picture. No BS football and straight to goal.
@@Lee_yourboylee Yes he was and Sampdoria back then had an monstrous midfield with specially him, Gullit, Jugovic and Lombardo but also with other greats like Evani and Katanec.
He's got to be up there. I'm not English but it seems to me he's largely absent from conversations/chat about England's great players, but why should he be? He won PFA Player of the year at Villa in the late 80s scoring loads of goals, did really well in Serie A at a time when it was the best league in the world, came back and did well at Arsenal, and was England's main man for a while too, also starting the Euro 96 semi final v Germany and scoring in the shootout at age 30. The only real blot on his CV is his one season at Juventus. He had a very good career domestically and internationally, but it seems like he's thought of mainly for scoring goals in Italia 90 and not much else...
@@sundijohnson2486 That 1990 England team has to be the most underrated one ever. Lineker, Gascoigne, Barnes, Waddle, Beardsley, Platt... all top top players at the time yet most of them are rarely ever talked about these days.
I wish Gullit had never tried going back to Milan, he fitted in wonderfully at Samp, both the player and the club excelled with him in Genoa. Although he returned to Samp before going to Chelsea, it would have been better if he'd made it one continuous period.
@@danyoutube7491 Indeed and interesting thing is that during the same time/summer Sampdoria lost their complete midfield and players like Platt, Gullit, Jugovic and Lombardo. They brought in great players like Karembeu and Seedorf who they also have to sell after a season or two but Sampdoria was slowly running out of good world class players and couple of years later they got relegated to serie B.

His over the shoulder volley right at the death v Belgium in Italia 90 was epic.
Belgium was still a great team and that goal stands out

No look, over the shoulder volley. That is impressive.

Guy Is a legend

Probably the most underrated English player ever
Yes, he flew under the radar at the time mainly because of Gazza, Lineker and Barnes. Top player though!
