Yeah, it takes a long time. They used to open after the sun went down every night during the game but now MLB says if the game starts with it closed the it has to remain closed until games over. It so hot down here in the summer, they usually never have the roof open at game start
I witnessed it opening shortly after it was built. It has always been closed when I have gone since except the last time a couple of weeks ago it was open the whole game for the fireworks afterwards. Never the less gotta love the ingenuity of a retractable roof stadium.
I went to Houston when I was a kid and got to watch the Astros play the Padres in 2000 I believe. And then the Hella mega tour last July. Great memories in Houston for me. Not to mention Astroworld
When the roof opens at Chase Field it has a much bigger effect, is more dramatic, faster, and you can actually tell its moving. Plus we have awesome music to go along with it.
So far the arizona diamondbacks have a stadium with a roof, along with the seattle mariners, milwakee brewers, toronto blue jays and your very own houston astros.
That's because the roofs at Rogers Centre and at Minute Maid Park are more than just sun shades. Toronto and Houston have some heavy-duty weather that has to be dealt with. Their roofs are much heavier.
If anyone can accurately compare the roof opening times for Rogers Centre, Safeco Field, Minute Maid Park, Miller Park, and Chase Field, I'd really appreciate it!
Opening times aren't the whole story. The roofs are of very different configurations. The "roof" at Minute Maid Park includes the entire west wall of the stadium.
Your roof is much smaller. As you can see, the roof at Minute Maid Park includes the entire west wall of the stadium. It's in three parts that all fold up on the north side of the building.

the baseball ones are better than the football domes
True.
What about Mercedes Benz?
@@WhoisVinnie MBS is just a giant hole in the middle of the roof. You still kind of feel like you are in a closed stadium.
Some parts
I wanted to see this, THANK YOU for posting it!!!!!!
They need to build one that snaps open like a mousetrap. No waiting.
Sure, in 30,000 A.D
I rememeber going here in july 2016 at the Angels @ Astros. I was thrilled that the astros won that day
In the city where our stadiums drop the top.

I went inside the broadcaster room in the minute maid park for my field trip today as a tour YOU GUYS SHOULD GO
my only complaint was the hot dog was cold, and rt field lights too bright needed to have a hat on with bill to avoid glare
Wow it's really awsome

Say what you're gonna say but this is a modern marvel
SkyDome (or Rogers Centre) is slower compared to this!

dang the Stros' roof takes forever to open, Chase Field's roof opens in like half the time
Smittie4m707 yea, having two parts to the roof means half the time opening. Duh.

Who's in charge of the roof
It looks like you could like touch the roof!
God bless Texas
People were cheering for a roof.
Nice, but the center opening of CHASE FIELD in Phoenix, AZ is much cooler and quicker!!!
@xlsportster0 hey i went on a friday night fireworks night and the big screen said that a single man pushes it
A single man pushes a button that opens it. It's opened by gigantic machinery.
