Malcolm, thank you so much for the invaluable information you gave. As a newbie artist, I make much of your videos. I do appreciate your concern and effort. Your suggestions and inspirational words make me and perhaps most of your followers work harder on the way of enhancing our world!
You are very welcome, I am happy to hear that.
Malcolm, your videos get me all fired up and I can’t wait to get to painting! You’re so encouraging and it helps to know that probably most of us struggle with the dreaded detail temptation.
You are so welcome
Wow! Thank you! I’m so inspired and i will go paint now and not be scared tonight. Painting is SCARY! I don’t know why.
You can do it! Nobody to judge so relax and have fun.
@@MalcolmDeweythankfully the switch from acrylic to oil was not as hard as i thought it would be. I’m enjoying not remixing my dried colors every ten minutes 😂. But the alla prima softness and blendability is not easy. I really want to go wild in my mind’s eye, like the post-impressionists and less-crazy fauves, but when it comes down to it, i hesitantly paint what i see. Maybe it’s about learning how to see differently to paint like that. I really like your style, reminds me of Jane Peterson a bit (from the 1920’s or so). Thank you for being such a great teacher! Do you have any post-impressionist tutorials?
@@phillipschmidtpottery With post-impressionists I think of Matisse, Cezanne and you could add Van Gogh too. I cannot specifically say which of my paintings are post-impressionist. But I do take some influence from them such as the recent acrylics demos ua-cam.com/video/coWGDNIKQI0/v-deo.html It is important to push color and simplification of shapes to get that graphic influence. Japanese prints were a big influence for those painters.
Learned so much.Thank you
Thank you for your suggestions, very helpful ❤

Oh my goodness, I’m so glad I found your channel (subscribed right away!). You have such a lot of fantastic videos. As I get older, my hands are getting more shaky and details are getting more difficult to paint. I love impressionist paintings, so your channel is going to be such a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.
Excellent, I am happy to hear that.
I love you, man !
Thank you so much that video is so exciting I can wait to get into my studio!

Thank you Malcom! I'm a acrylic artist but love painting with thick paint.. These tips are awesome! Iv never tried painting with large brushes or holding my brush at the end.. Can't wait to get started!
Wonderful!
That's exactly what I wanted to say. Being largely self taught I always held my brushes whichever way felt comfortable/ natural. After seeing your video I think it's time for me to break outta my comfort zone😁
This series is so informative and inspirational! Hoping I can get better at Impressionism 😂🎉❤

You are welcome!
I definitely am going to try this.

@@MalcolmDewey I tried a small study today, and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look impresssionistic!
@@cowpunk118 😄
Thanks so much for this. I’ve lost steadiness in my hands, and can’t do landscapes anymore. Your work and words are helping me learn a possible way to paint again.
I hope you can start soon. Any creative work will be good for you.
Limitations can be creative! Chuck Close started losing his eyesight and developed a unique, abstract way of painting.
I just signed up for your Impressionist class AND tree class. :)
🥰 Thank you Ann - hope you enjoy them!
Thanks a lot for these videos Malcolm, well explained. Had a question - do you use different paint brushes for different colour groups in the same painting? Or would you recommend using just one brush and dry wiping between application of colours and values? Thanks!
Thank you. Best practice is to use different brushes for Lights and darks. Otherwise clean it with a little whites pirits when you change between the major values. always wipe the brush with any change of color though.
Thanks for your prompt response!@@MalcolmDewey
Hi Malcolm, just recently found both your YT Channel & Home Page website. I'm watching this series are a pre-introduction to the 'Paint like an Impressionist' course that I've just purchased and am looking forward to getting paint, on to the page soon, with both this series and the main course. Meanwhile might I ask what masking tape you use to create your painting windows. Is it a low tack one? I'm soon going to buy some & would like to use one that has been 'proven!' Best regards, Dave W.
Hi Dave - actually we have little choice in tape other than basic hardware store masking tape. This one is for spray-painters so quite effective. I would not use it for regular paper though. Its fine on Arches oil paper and on panels.
When doing these smaller studies are you just practicing from imagination or using photos as inspiration for composition / colors with each one?
I do use photos as inspiration.
❤❤❤🙏👍😍
Hello sir I want to ask one question can paint impressionistic on black canvas
