I rarely find a large size ginger like what you have there. This week our grocery store finally got some in and they are huge, I got so excited I bought a bunch to preserve it for the future which leads me to this channel… thank you for the tip.
I live in Northern Wisconsin. All our store bought vegetables are old, like very dead. When I see plump ginger I get excited, too. I buy a lot and have to find find a way to store it. I’ll try Hawaiian Pickle Lady’s way today.
Aloha Leonora, thank you for making this video. I want to make ginger bread cookies for my husband, but I didn't know how to store the rest of the fresh ginger. I hope you have a blessed day. 😊
Using the vinegar method is way better since the said liquid really is a natural preservative. And many thanks to you, auntie for showing us how to preserve ginger.
Thank you, just the information I needed! Our ginger is now stored in a jar in the fridge and will last longer than in the grocery store packaging in the fridge.
You’re so sweet. Thank you for showing how to store the ginger . I love the frozen instructions. I bought a lot of ginger today so this is perfect. Many thanks 🙏🏻❤️
I skip the freezing in the pan and just flatten the chopped ginger directly in the ziploc. After it's slightly frozen, I use a spatula and crease the bag into portions before freezing it solid. I do this with my excess tomato paste...frozen in 1Tbsp chunks. I've also tried small ice cube trays..but they end up in the ziploc anyway so best to skip a few steps. =)
True, sometimes it crumbles up anymore and a few whacks on the counter loosens them up or before they freeze solid, loosen so won't be all stuck together.
Obrigada por compartilhar o seu conhecimento de como armazenar e conservar o gengibre! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on how to store and conserve ginger.
I have no idea why I'm watching this. I only use a pinch or two of dried ginger when I use it, which is very seldom. I also have a special ginger jar that I (for obvious reasons) never use. I considered giving it to charity the other day, but no. It's still just standing on a shelf in a kitchen cabinet, looking pretty. At least now I know how to use it!
Thank you so much for the video! That's really helpful)) could you please tell, how do you usually use pickled ginger in vinegar? Is it just the regular way - put it while cooking?
Maybe a little. I also grate or process ginger, press it flat in a little pan and when frozen hard, I cut it into chunks and put it in a ziploc bag and freeze so I just take out a little at a time. You can also put it in ice cube trays too.
Speaking of Ginger, could you show us how you make your version of chicken long rice? I was also wondering how you make your chicken or pork luau... We used to do it the lazy way with leftover chicken (or pork) lau lau, broth, coconut milk,etc..🌺
If it is preserved in vinegar does it give the ginger a vinegar taste when you go to use it later? I don't want pickled ginger, but to preserve fresh ginger, so maybe the second approach is better for me?

The vinegar is just a preservative. I use it in cooking, no strong taste when combined with other ingredients.
Will the ginger taste like vinegar? Thank you for sharing these methods. Aloha.
Don't worry, the vinegar taste is minimal since you are cooking with it.
Thank you for this, it’ll come in so handy! 😊
I make a lot of ginger tea. Will the vinegar change the taste of the tea?
Maybe a little. I also grate or process ginger, press it flat in a little pan and when frozen hard, I cut it into chunks and put it in a ziploc bag and freeze so I just take out a little at a time. You can also put it in ice cube trays too.

Chicken long rice is on the list. My way is super simple. Lau laus are on the videos.
Chicken long rice is now on my website under Noodles.
@@HawaiisPickleLady thank you Lenora🩷🌱
Thank you for sharing. Does the vinegar effect the flavor?
No, it doesn't because you're cooking it anyway and the taste is minimal.
Very helpful. Can I do the same with garlic?
I usually put whole cloves in a jar and cover with white vinegar or any liquor and refrigerate. There is no strong taste because most of it cooks out.
Do you peel the cloves first?
Will it taste pickled if storing in vinegar ??
No, because you don't use too much and it's not too noticeable.
is the white vinegar distilled white vinegar or is all white vinegar distilled
Just the regular vinegar you buy in the store.
Does the liquor change the taste and texture of the ginger?
Not really as you probably are cooking it with other ingredients. To me there's no detectable taste. The texture doesn't change.
can you use malt vinegar
yes.
@@HawaiisPickleLady thank you,
Does it have to be white vinegar or could you use apple cider vinegar??...thank you
Any vinegar will work.

To me, the vinegar taste is minimal, so use the frozen better, I always have it in the freezer, so easy to use.
Does having it in vinegar or alcohol change the flavor?
Not really.
Is ot ok if I put the ginger in a container and leave it in the freezer instead of the deep
You can put it a container but it'll be hard to get it out. That's why I freeze it in thin squares so I can take out only a little.
Thanks for the video❤
I'm wondering to know how much Hawaiian ginger costs per lb 🤔
Hi, I live in Hawaii and Ginger approximately a little over seven dollars for 2 pounds of fresh ginger
@patriciakapua7395 that's a good price. Thanks 😊
Is it better to use Apple cider vinegar or it doesn’t really matter?
I generally use white vinegar as its cheaper and doesn't make a difference.
Will vinegar change Ginger’s taste or flavor?
no.
wont the vinegar add vinegar taste to the food ?
No, hardly noticeable. Keeps indefinitely.
🎉thanks alot...❤
