    It's so nice to have ginger ready without having to peel and chop for recipes. These methods will always be ready to use either chopped, smashed or sliced. Because you're cooking, there is no noticeable vinegar or liquor taste when using the refrigerated type.
    If you're in Oahu, Hawaii or Las Vegas, Nevada be sure to check out my PICKLE PASSION COOKBOOK in the library...it's free!!

    I rarely find a large size ginger like what you have there. This week our grocery store finally got some in and they are huge, I got so excited I bought a bunch to preserve it for the future which leads me to this channel… thank you for the tip.

      I live in Northern Wisconsin. All our store bought vegetables are old, like very dead. When I see plump ginger I get excited, too. I buy a lot and have to find find a way to store it. I’ll try Hawaiian Pickle Lady’s way today.

    Using the vinegar method is way better since the said liquid really is a natural preservative. And many thanks to you, auntie for showing us how to preserve ginger.

    Thank you, just the information I needed! Our ginger is now stored in a jar in the fridge and will last longer than in the grocery store packaging in the fridge.

    I skip the freezing in the pan and just flatten the chopped ginger directly in the ziploc. After it's slightly frozen, I use a spatula and crease the bag into portions before freezing it solid. I do this with my excess tomato paste...frozen in 1Tbsp chunks. I've also tried small ice cube trays..but they end up in the ziploc anyway so best to skip a few steps. =)

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  Рік тому

      True, sometimes it crumbles up anymore and a few whacks on the counter loosens them up or before they freeze solid, loosen so won't be all stuck together.

    Thank you so much for the video! That's really helpful)) could you please tell, how do you usually use pickled ginger in vinegar? Is it just the regular way - put it while cooking?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  Рік тому +1

      The vinegar is just a preservative. I use it in cooking, no strong taste when combined with other ingredients.

    I have no idea why I'm watching this. I only use a pinch or two of dried ginger when I use it, which is very seldom. I also have a special ginger jar that I (for obvious reasons) never use. I considered giving it to charity the other day, but no. It's still just standing on a shelf in a kitchen cabinet, looking pretty. At least now I know how to use it!

    • @HawaiisPickleLady

      No, it doesn't because you're cooking it anyway and the taste is minimal.

    Is ot ok if I put the ginger in a container and leave it in the freezer instead of the deep

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  11 днів тому

      You can put it a container but it'll be hard to get it out. That's why I freeze it in thin squares so I can take out only a little.

    Does the liquor change the taste and texture of the ginger?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  2 місяці тому

      Not really as you probably are cooking it with other ingredients. To me there's no detectable taste. The texture doesn't change.

    If it is preserved in vinegar does it give the ginger a vinegar taste when you go to use it later? I don't want pickled ginger, but to preserve fresh ginger, so maybe the second approach is better for me?

    • @HawaiisPickleLady
      @HawaiisPickleLady  3 місяці тому

      To me, the vinegar taste is minimal, so use the frozen better, I always have it in the freezer, so easy to use.
